Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 100, Black Web Hunter

Tao Xiaoman was taken aback. She never thought Xiao Cui would possess such a useful Skill. She exclaimed in wonder, “Is this another one of Xiao Cui’s Skills? I feel so comfortable now, like I have endless energy.”

As she spoke, Tao Xiaoman glanced at Lu Fan and said something that made Lu Fan want to kick her, “Lu Fan, your head is green!”

(Silavin: 脑袋绿了 – a pun to say he is speechlessly angry.)

With this remark, everyone burst into laughter.

Even Jian Ying let out a chuckle, though she quickly resumed her icy demeanour.

Lu Fan frowned and called to Xiao Cui, “Xiao Cui, recall the Skill on her!”

“Noooo! Lu Fan, you can’t discriminate against me like this!” Tao Xiaoman immediately pleaded.

Lu Fan was indifferent, saying, “You’re a Swordsman. You’re not even charging into the frontline. What do you need this Buff for?”

“But this Buff feels so good. It’s like taking a drug. Let me enjoy it with everyone else…”

“…”

Under Tao Xiaoman’s pleas, the Spring of Life Buff was left on her.

With the Spring of Life Buff, the group’s Dungeon Instance clearing speed increased further. However, this Dungeon Instance seemed very big, and the group had been walking for a long time without seeing its boundaries.

But because Monsters kept coming at them, everyone’s Experience Points gain was not slow, so continuing to clear like this was not bad.

Soon, the Level of the Monsters they encountered gradually increased, changing from the original Level 40 Black Scaled Giant Python and Black Armoured Poison Scorpion to Level 45 Poison Ulcer Toad and Multicolored Centipede.

Since the Monsters were 25 Levels higher, even Jian Ying could not one-shot them with just her Blood Breaker Sword anymore. Still, her Damage Output was still very high and aggressive. Before the Monsters could get close to the group, they would be directly slain by her.

As they gradually went deeper, the group found that the surrounding trees became taller, and black spider threads began to appear on the branches and trunks. These spider threads were as thick as a Human finger, extremely tough, and also poisonous.

After discovering these spider threads, Tao Xiaoman, being mischievous, pulled one.

As a result, even with her Swordsman’s Strength Attribute, she could not break free from this spider thread. Instead, black spots appeared on her face, and her Attributes started to rapidly drop.

Fortunately, under Lu Fan’s command, Xiao Cui cast another Jade Light on her, removing the Poison.

Because of this incident, Tao Xiaoman was frightened and pale. She no longer dared to touch these spider threads again. Instead, she obediently guarded Han Ke and Qin Qiu.

Lu Fan studied the spider threads for a while and finally said to everyone, “I think the area we’ve been exploring should only be the outskirts of the Dungeon Instance. Now, we’re truly entering the central area of the Dungeon Instance. This Dungeon Instance is called Poison Spider Forest, and we have not seen any spider-like Monsters yet. I guess it’s because they are the Main Monsters of this Dungeon Instance and are a lot stronger. These spider webs indicate that we’ve entered the area where poisonous spiders appear. So, everyone, we need to be careful.”

The others nodded and focused their attention.

At this moment, suddenly, from the mist ahead came the sound of fallen leaves being trampled upon. The sound was particularly dense, like raindrops.

Everyone looked ahead and saw a rather huge figure rapidly charging towards them.

It was a giant spider three metres tall, entirely silver-white, as if cast from mercury. As it got closer, everyone could even see silver light flickering on its smooth skin.

Its eight spider legs moved quickly, consecutively breaking several trees as it fiercely approached.

Jian Ying reacted quickly, pointing with her hand. The Blood Breaker Sword hovering beside her turned into a red light and stabbed towards the silver spider.

Unlike the previous *squelch* sound of sword entering flesh, when the Blood Breaker Sword stabbed the silver spider, there was a crisp *ding* sound, followed by a shower of sparks. It clearly got deflected.

The Blood Breaker Sword was not completely ineffective against this silver spider though. It was clear that when hit by the Blood Breaker Sword, the silver spider was forced to retreat repeatedly, and a wound appeared on its body, oozing some silver liquid.

The first spider-type Monster to appear in the Poison Spider Forest already seemed extraordinary.

Jian Ying’s Blood Breaker Sword had been invincible before, but this time it failed to pierce its target.

Lu Fan cast Appraisal Eye on it and immediately understood.

“This is a Silver Armoured Spider, a Level 45 Elite Monster. Its Attributes aren’t that high, with only its Endurance being the one that stands out from the rest. Moreover, it has a Passive that makes it Immune to Armour Piercing. It is essentially the nemesis of your Blood Breaker Sword.” Lu Fan warned out loud while raising his Black Dragon Scale Greatsword.

Such a Silver Armoured Spider could still be dealt with by Jian Ying. But after the first Silver Armoured Spider appeared, movement came from the surroundings, and two identical Silver Armoured Spiders charged towards the group from the same direction. Their speed was no less than the first one.

With three Silver Armoured Spiders, Jian Ying could kill them, but it would be difficult to stop their charge.

Lu Fan certainly could not let these three Monsters charge into the backline, otherwise, everyone except Jian Ying would be in danger.

However, at this moment, unexpectedly, Jian Ying’s face showed rare displeasure. She hooked her finger, and the Blood Breaker Sword returned to her side.

At the same time, a huge greatsword appeared beside her, floating up and down.

This greatsword seemed ancient and was of a simple design, without any patterns. Its entire body seemed to be carved from a black stone and looked extremely rough. In terms of size, even Lu Fan’s Black Dragon Scale Greatsword was inferior compared to this sword.

Seeing this, Lu Fan thought to himself, [Like I had guessed, Jian Ying has more than two swords. The appearance of the Silver Armoured Spiders made her bring out her third sword!]

It was clear that this sword was different from the previous two, probably going for extreme violence. Judging by its appearance, the sword’s Level was not low. It was very likely to be at the same Level as Jian Ying, like the Blood Breaker Sword. Otherwise, Jian Ying would have summoned this sword to gain Experience Points from the beginning.

Just as Lu Fan had guessed, Jian Ying activated this black greatsword, making it fly up, drawing an arc as it swept towards the three Silver Armoured Spiders.

Moreover, this time, Jian Ying used a Skill.

“Mountain Quake!” With a light shout from Jian Ying, the greatsword began to vibrate as it swept.

Instantly, with the sword as the centre, waves of ripples radiated outward, even the air seemed to crack like glass!

The power of this sword strike truly exemplified the saying, ‘a heavy sword needs no edge, form and details are unnecessary as its effects are outstanding’ to the extreme.

With a loud *bang*, the greatsword, like a heavy hammer, swept through the three Silver Armoured Spiders like skewering candied haws. Although the bodies of the three Silver Armoured Spiders were tough, under this sword strike, their bodies instantly shattered, with silver liquid splattered all over the ground.

Another one-shot kill!

It was clear that Jian Ying’s third sword had characteristics completely different from the other two.

The Blood Breaker Sword was like an Assassin, with high mobility, high damage, and high Armour Piercing. Meanwhile, this sword possessed extreme power. Although its flying speed was obviously much slower than the Blood Breaker Sword, this overwhelming power was definitely something the Blood Breaker Sword lacked in comparison.

[The Sword Tamer Profession is really interesting. According to the Profession Characteristics I’ve seen so far, Jian Ying should have many exclusive weapons with different characteristics. Although it is just her using different swords, with different characteristics of each weapon, this Profession is extremely versatile.]

Just as Lu Fan was about to compliment Jian Ying, suddenly a faint *puff* sound came from afar. It was followed by a whistling sound, rapidly shooting towards Jian Ying’s position.

Lu Fan’s face tensed as he shouted, “Xiao Cui, Jade Shield!”

Xiao Cui was in sync with Lu Fan. Almost as soon as Lu Fan spoke, Jade Shield was cast on Jian Ying.

Instantly, three emerald green shields, about half a person’s height appeared around Jian Ying, constantly rotating. One of them blocked a black spider thread shooting towards Jian Ying.

This spider thread was identical to the ones Lu Fan and the others had discovered earlier, extremely inconspicuous and covered with Poisonous Miasma.

Jian Ying had just used her Skill to kill the three Silver Armoured Spiders, and it was difficult for her to react in time to this sneak attack from the spider thread.

If caught around the neck by this spider thread, even Jian Ying would find it very troublesome to deal with.

The spider thread pinned on the Jade Shield, blocking a hit for Jian Ying before the Jade Shield shattered and the spider thread fell to the ground.

But looking along the spider thread into the distance, they could see a spider web formed on a distant tree. A pitch-black spider, only half the size of the Silver Armoured Spiders, sat steadily in the centre of the web, silently watching the group with its eight pale green eyes.

Lu Fan used Appraisal Eye on it and learned that this was a Level 45 Mini Boss, Black Web Hunter.

In terms of Attributes, this Mini Boss was not particularly high, but it had two Skills: Concealment, which could make it invisible, and Web Spray, which allowed it to shoot out spider webs to drag away intruders.

Lu Fan remembered that in the Dungeon Instance information, there was a special mention of the Black Web Hunter, saying it was one of the most dangerous Monsters in the Poison Spider Forest.

If caught by its Web Spray, it would drag the bound person all the way to the depths of the Dungeon Instance. If the spider threads were not cut in time with sharp tools or Fire Attribute Skills, the captured person would likely die.

Almost every year, people died under the Black Web Hunter’s Web Spray, because it was like a killer in the darkness. It was very difficult to guard against.

Once separated from teammates with a Black Web Hunter, no good outcome would come of it.

Jian Ying had just been saved by Lu Fan. She glanced at the Jade Shield that had blocked a hit for her, then looked up at the distant Black Web Hunter, her eyes clearly flashing with rage.

She pointed with both hands simultaneously, and the Blood Breaker Sword and the black greatsword flew out together, one after the other, stabbing towards the Black Web Hunter.

Seeing this, Lu Fan was slightly surprised, [Wow! She can even use two swords at once!? Then, wouldn’t it be possible to use ‘Ten Thousand Swords Return to One’ in the future!? The Sword Tamer Profession is really strong!]

(Silavin: Ten Thousand Swords Return to One – very common technique with a person controlling ten thousand swords to attack a thing.)
