Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 54, Preparing for the Major Exam

Translator: Silavin

Soon, a day had passed.

Various High Schools became particularly lively, because seven days had passed since the last Profession Change Ceremony. Now, all students were returning to their classes to prepare for the major exam.

The major exam was even more important than the college entrance exam Lu Fan had taken in his past life, on Blue Star.

It was to determine whether one could pursue further education at a University, which was a requirement to gain qualification to enter Dungeon Instances.

It was a well established fast that Dungeon Instances were basically all controlled by the country, so the qualification to enter Dungeon Instances required permission from the country.

The regulation was that only those who entered Universities for further studies were qualified to enter Dungeon Instances. After all, Dungeon Instances could be repeatedly farmed, like mineral deposits. However, their energy would eventually be depleted. Thus, it was made such that these kinds of resources were prioritised to those with greater potential – i.e. those who were capable enough to be admitted to Universities.

If one could not enter a University, they would not have the qualification to enter Dungeon Instances. If they wanted to earn money through combat, they could only go to the Wilderness to become despised Monster Material Hunters.

In the classroom, many of Lu Fan’s classmates were excitedly discussing.

“…You’ve actually reached Level 11 too? Amazing! Looks like you’ve been Levelling Up a lot in the Wilderness these past few days, huh?”

“Hehe, I formed a team with my Father and Uncle. They took me to kill some Monsters on the outskirts of the Mountain Stone Plains. Now, I feel like I’ve mastered my Mage Skills. When it comes to the major exam later, shall we form a team?”

“Sure, no problem! I’m a Swordsman. I can dish out Physical Attacks and you do Magic Attacks. If we team up, our Monster farming efficiency should be quite fast.”

“Hey, if you’re forming a team, why not take me along? I’m a Priest, and I’ve been worried about not having anyone to team up with.”

“Of course, no problem! This way, our team configuration is basically complete. We’ll definitely get a good score in the major exam later!”

…

Everyone was very excited, but Lu Fan saw that less than twenty people had come to class today.

The rest had not returned to school. They had already given up their qualification to take part in the major exam.

They had all either gotten Lifestyle Specialised Professions or Enhancement Specialised Professions. There was no point in them going to the exam venue.

This was fate, nothing could be done about it.

Lu Fan sat in the corner of the classroom, naturally attracting the attention of other classmates.

“Look, Lu Fan came too. I thought he would definitely give up on the major exam and sell Buns for a living, hehe.”

“He’s still the top student, with an average of over twenty points in All Four Attributes. Maybe he wants to rely on his higher base Attributes to get a decent score in the major exam and find a subpar University to attend.”

“Top student? Ha ha ha! What use is being a top student? He ended up with a useless Profession. Even if he gets a presentable score in the major exam, would any University want him?”

“Even if they do, it’s probably some lousy University that cannot recruit anyone. They would barely get the qualification to enter Dungeon Instances. What’s the use? In that kind of University, you can’t even find teammates to enter Dungeon Instances with, it’s just wasting tuition fees.”

“That’s right, the more garbage the University, the more expensive the tuition. How many Buns would Lu Fan have to sell to afford such a University?”

Because Lu Fan was a top student, many in the class wanted to see him make a fool of himself.

Now that they had Profession Changed to Combat Specialised Professions, while Lu Fan had changed to a useless Profession, they naturally felt a sense of superiority.

Their words naturally could be heard, but Lu Fan did not wish to bother with them.

In his previous life, Lu Fan had seen many of such people. Some classmates who had poor grades but later became big bosses were like this. When the former top students in their class ended up being mediocre, it was a common sight for those that became rich to disdain them. In their minds, they were most likely thinking something along the lines of, ‘You studied so well back then so why is it that you’re not even doing a tenth as well as I am right now? It seems like all that studying was useless!’

Lu Fan could not be bothered to argue with such people. What could really slap their faces was not verbal arguments now, but using results. Results that would slap them as though he scolded back, ‘You were useless at studying back then, you are useless now. In fact, in front of me, you’ll always be useless.’

Soon, the class teacher, Li Qun, came to the classroom.

Seeing that only a third of his students remained, he could not help but quietly sigh.

Regard;ess, he still came to the podium with great enthusiasm, smiling and saying to everyone, “Students, congratulations on having the confidence to return to school for the major exam! I’ve talked about the importance of the major exam until my face has turned blue already. I guess you’re tired of hearing it, so I won’t repeat too much. In short, everyone needs to work hard today. Also, since you’re all classmates, if possible, try to form teams to deal with various situations in the exam later. This way, you can achieve good results.”

“Everyone, do your best. Now, I’ll distribute the Transfer Stones. Soon, you can use them to gather at the exam venue and wait for the major exam to begin.”
