A '70s Flash Marriage: Raising Cubs, Making Millions

Chapter 48: Chapter 48: He Shouldn’t Have Gotten Away

The group of people descended the mountain, heading towards the village entrance, but halfway there, they heard a commotion from inside the village, along with what seemed to be a woman’s screams.

Fu Xiaoxiao curiously looked over but didn’t have any intention of going over.

Lin Qiu heard familiar voices among the crowd—those of Liu Qiang and Widow Zhang.

”It’s Liu Qiang and Widow Zhang.” Lin Qiu thought for a moment and then spoke.

Fu Xiaoxiao’s eyes lit up. Originally planning to head towards the village entrance, she changed direction and walked into the village.

”Oh, did the scumbag get caught? I’ll go take a look.”

Fu Xiaoxiao handed the medicinal herbs and Lu Chen she was carrying to Lin Qiu and Lin Xue. ”You guys better not go over, in case you get hurt.”

Lin Qiu nodded, and Lin Xue took Lu Chen, continuing towards the village entrance with Lin Qiu. ”Then I’ll take sister to wait for you at the entrance.”

Wang Lu escorted Fu Xiaoxiao to the edge of the crowd, and they heard the sound of slaps coming from within.

”You vixen, messing around with others, and not just one! You shameless slut, would you die without a man? My husband used to be so honest, and now he even steals my money to give it to you? I’ll beat the hell out of you, you shameless creature.”

”You shameless whore, your man’s already dead and you still lure my man, and you even got pregnant! Tell me, whose child is in your belly?”

Fu Xiaoxiao merely hearing these two sentences, already had a lot to process.

”Ah! I didn’t! You’re wronging me...” A weak female voice tearfully tried to explain, but no one believed what she said.

”Hey, you’re still here?” Fu Xiaoxiao was trying to find a high ground when suddenly someone tapped her on the shoulder, she looked up to find an old aunt standing on a long bench, occupying the best viewing position.

”Auntie? I was just about to leave and happened to see this along the way, what’s going on here?” Fu Xiaoxiao recognized this old aunt as the one she had met just now at the Liu Family’s door, she answered with a smile.

”This is really interesting.” The old aunt gestured for Fu Xiaoxiao to get on the bench, Wang Lu helped Fu Xiaoxiao up, and the old aunt leaned over mysteriously.

”You guys just left the Liu Family, and Liu Qiang was about to find his lover, but it turns out his lover, Widow Zhang, was secretly mingling with Liu Er’s family! They got caught right on the spot, Liu Er’s wife rushed over upon hearing the noise, pinned Widow Zhang to the ground and started beating her up. Liu Qiang and Liu Er are cousins, and after comparing notes, how coincidental, Widow Zhang first hooked up with Liu Er and then seduced Liu Qiang right after.”

”Between these two brothers, there are still several other men involved. Widow Zhang sure is something, no wonder she’s well-fed. A little from this house, a little from that house, she’s never going hungry!” The old aunt enthusiastically shared with Fu Xiaoxiao. ”Those two tearing Widow Zhang’s clothes are Liu Er’s wife and the wife from the Li Family.”

Fu Xiaoxiao stood on the bench, watching Widow Zhang getting her clothes torn off by several women. The men nearby didn’t dare to provoke these women, and a few men shrunk back, looking guilty, afraid their affairs with Widow Zhang would be discovered.

Liu Qiang’s face turned as dark as iron, looking at Widow Zhang being dragged on the ground. Liu Qiang wished he could draw a knife and kill her.

Fu Xiaoxiao couldn’t help but laugh; this is karma, what true love are we even talking about! The woman he liked was being treated like this, yet he didn’t step up to defend her!

Even if the child in her belly is his, he probably wouldn’t believe it now!

Fu Xiaoxiao saw a person approaching from afar with a serious expression, and the villagers made way for him.

Guessing it was the village head, Fu Xiaoxiao smiled and jumped off the bench, smiling at Wang Lu.

”Let’s go.”

”Sister-in-law, you’re not going to watch?”

Wang Lu followed Fu Xiaoxiao to the village entrance. The scene wasn’t over yet, why wasn’t Fu Xiaoxiao watching?

”No more watching, the ending won’t be any surprise! It’ll just end up with Widow Zhang and several men getting confined for a few days, unless we quickly report to the police now, otherwise in this village it will definitely turn a big issue into a small one, and a small one into nothing.” Fu Xiaoxiao knew very well that villages like this were never going to send Widow Zhang to the police, they’d just deal with it in private, confining them for a few days, without much consequence.

It’s not like the old days of drowning adulterers and creating a scene.

Fu Xiaoxiao and Wang Lu returned to the village entrance, Lin Qiu and Lin Xue saw them return so quickly, Lu Chen dashed towards Fu Xiaoxiao.

”Mom.”

Fu Xiaoxiao smiled and rubbed his head.

”Let’s go!”

Fu Xiaoxiao got into the car holding Lu Chen, Wang Lu helped Lin Qiu and Lin Xue settle in, and then drove away from Changqing Village.

On the way, Fu Xiaoxiao told Lin Qiu about Widow Zhang, Lin Xue clapped happily. ”Serves them right, scum like that deserves this.”

Lin Qiu smiled lightly. ”I’ve known for a long time Widow Zhang was no good, but Liu Qiang liked her, so I wouldn’t plead with him not to go.”

Lin Qiu had long given up on Liu Qiang. She stayed at the Liu Family because she believed Liu Qiang sent money to Lin Xue every month. She felt indebted to the Liu Family, and wanted to repay their kindness, so she never caused trouble, allowing them to bully her.

But who knew Liu Qiang never sent any money, now that she left, she felt no guilt at all.

On several occasions while collecting pig grass, she saw Widow Zhang sneaking off with other men into the woods, into the cornfields, not just one or two, so many she became numb to it.

When Liu Qiang claimed Widow Zhang was pregnant with his son, she bowed her head, fearing he’d see her and barely resisted the urge to laugh out loud.

”Sister, you knew all along, why didn’t you separate from him?” Lin Xue hadn’t expected Lin Qiu to have known long ago, sleeping beside a man with thoughts for another woman must be unbearable.

”Originally because he sent money to you every month. I felt I owed the Liu Family, so I stayed as a favor.” Lin Qiu held Lin Xue’s hand without hiding anything.

”Had I known, I would’ve told you sooner, my bad.” Lin Xue pursed her lips, afraid of burdening her sister, so even when she had no money and drank raw water, she never asked her sister for money.

”It doesn’t matter, it’s all in the past! You’re the one who’s suffered, must’ve been tough for you, did you starve?” Lin Qiu looked at Lin Xue with heartache, they both knew the pain of hunger growing up, Lin Xue didn’t receive any money, she couldn’t imagine how she managed for so many years.

”No, it wasn’t hard, you tried your best to send me to school.” Lin Xue said seriously, knowing her sister sacrificed so much for her to get an education, Lin Xue wished she didn’t have to go to school.

But thinking about her sister’s sacrifice, just to give her a chance, studying hard would lead to good jobs and money, so no matter how tough or hungry Lin Xue got, she never gave up.

”No way! Just a few days confinement for such scum is too lenient.” Wang Lu, filled with anger, listened to Lin Qiu’s account of her years at the Liu Family, thinking Liu Qiang might just get a few days of confinement...

Wang Lu suddenly swerved the car.

Fu Xiaoxiao and the others were stunned, looking at Wang Lu, weren’t they returning to the army? Why the detour?
