A '70s Flash Marriage: Raising Cubs, Making Millions

Chapter 97: Chapter 97: Unexpected

”I will take responsibility for you,” Lu Feng looked sincerely at Fu Xiaoxiao.

His serious demeanor made Fu Xiaoxiao laugh. ”I was talking about others, of course, I know you’re not that kind of person. If you ever meet a woman you want to spend your life with, just tell me boldly. I’ll voluntarily step aside when the time comes.”

Lu Feng’s smile froze on his face.

Fu Xiaoxiao smiled faintly. ”Don’t worry! My promise won’t change. What I mean is, if you truly find someone you like and want to spend your life with her, as your friend, I won’t hold you back.”

”Do you have someone you like?” Lu Feng’s heart skipped as he looked at Fu Xiaoxiao and asked.

”No!” Fu Xiaoxiao blinked. Wasn’t he talking about himself? How did it turn to her?

Lu Feng eased his worried heart, seeing Fu Xiaoxiao’s bewildered look, knowing she still wasn’t aware of his feelings, Lu Feng took a deep breath.

”Comrade Fu Xiaoxiao.”

”Ah? Present.”

Suddenly being called her full name in such a formal manner made Fu Xiaoxiao nervously look towards Lu Feng.

Why would the boss call her name so formally?

It was just like being suddenly named by a leader, her back inexplicably felt chilly.

”Are you willing to officially date me, become a real couple?” Lu Feng mustered up the courage and said seriously to Fu Xiaoxiao.

Fu Xiaoxiao was dumbfounded by the sudden confession.

”Real couple?” Fu Xiaoxiao looked at Lu Feng in confusion, weren’t they already married? What more could there be?

The boss wasn’t thinking of sleeping with her, was he?

She regarded him as a boss, but he actually wants to sleep with her.

”Uh, can’t we just keep things as they are? You don’t know me, and I don’t know you...” Seeing the sincerity in Lu Feng’s eyes, Fu Xiaoxiao felt her face heating up and lowered her head, unable to meet his eyes.

It felt like the boss not only wanted to eat the meat but wanted to swallow her whole, bones and all.

Hearing Fu Xiaoxiao’s rejection, Lu Feng also realized he was too hasty. He was certain Fu Xiaoxiao had feelings for him, but his sudden confession left her completely unprepared.

Startled her.

”I don’t mean to pressure you. I just wanted to tell you that I want to spend the rest of my life with you, as long as you’re willing,” Lu Feng’s bold words made Fu Xiaoxiao’s face even redder.

The boss suddenly threw a straightforward pitch, leaving her mind blank, unable to fend it off!

”I, uh...” Fu Xiaoxiao didn’t know what to say, twisting her fingers, feeling utterly lost.

She wanted to say she just wanted to earn that forty yuan salary, would the boss be so angry to fire her?

”Take your time with this; we have a long future ahead. I won’t pressure you.” Knowing Fu Xiaoxiao was frightened by him, but having said what’s in his heart, Lu Feng felt much more relaxed.

At least Fu Xiaoxiao was not completely indifferent. Indeed, he was a bit hurried, but he couldn’t let her continue misunderstanding.

”Alright, I will seriously consider it,” Fu Xiaoxiao sighed in relief, glad that there was still room for thought. Her mind was a muddle right now and couldn’t think.

”Then sit here for a while, I’ll go help in the kitchen.” Lu Feng walked towards the kitchen, leaving Fu Xiaoxiao alone for a moment.

Fu Xiaoxiao patted her face.

It was a matter of life, the boss wants to spend his life with her?

She admits he is somewhat handsome, but...

Beware of handsome men!

Fu Xiaoxiao sat in the yard, feeling chaotic in the breeze, unable to face Lu Feng anymore.

She initially only wanted to be a nanny for a few years, then after the college entrance exam, once the two children no longer needed her, she planned to divorce Lu Feng.

Why is it not going according to her script...

After finishing the meal in a dramatic manner, Fu Xiaoxiao pulled Lin Qiu back to the room, while Lu Feng and Lu Chen tidied up the table.

Lin Qiu looked at Fu Xiaoxiao, eyes full of gossip.

”Sister Lin Qiu, why are you looking at me like that?” Fu Xiaoxiao asked helplessly, feeling awkward under Lin Qiu’s gaze.

”What did Lu Feng just say to you? You seemed completely out of it during dinner!” Lin Qiu asked with a smile.

It was clear Fu Xiaoxiao wasn’t in the right state during the meal, she even attempted to eat with empty chopsticks and tried to eat food that wasn’t even picked up from the bowl.

Everyone noticed something was wrong, Lu Feng tried to help her get some food but she turned away to refuse.

”He...” Fu Xiaoxiao sighed, patted her face, and recounted Lu Feng’s words to Lin Qiu.

”Isn’t that a good thing? But how does this work, aren’t you already married? Why does he want to be real spouses?” Lin Qiu initially found it good but then thought it odd.

They were already couples by certificate, what does it mean to want to be real spouses?

Fu Xiaoxiao glanced at the angry Lin Qiu, and detailed the agreement between her and Lu Feng.

”What? You two just casually got together and registered for marriage? That’s way too reckless! And you too, how could you just marry yourself off like that?” Lin Qiu’s impression of Fu Xiaoxiao shattered completely; this wasn’t a modern woman but surely a foolish girl.

Just to avoid going to the countryside, she marries a man she just met once.

Moreover, even knowing he couldn’t have children, she dove right in, just to be the stepmother of two kids and earn that forty yuan stipend?

In an instant, Lin Qiu regarded Fu Xiaoxiao as Lin Xue, giving her a thorough lecture, and afterwards, sat dejectedly beside Fu Xiaoxiao.

”What qualification do I have to lecture you? I also acted recklessly as I said before, for the sake of my sister’s tuition, I sold myself to the Liu Family too.” Lin Qiu patted her face; this part, she truly couldn’t criticize Fu Xiaoxiao.

”But you’re better than me; Lu Feng is a reliable man. Still, he is also...” Lin Qiu while speaking again felt like scolding Lu Feng but eventually dismissed it.

Their situation is unique, nothing much could be said.

What was that phrase again, Zhou Yu hits Huang Gai, one willing to hit, one willing to suffer.

Both married with impure purposes, neither can blame the other.

This amazing destiny tied them together.

”So what’s your thought now?” Lin Qiu looked at Fu Xiaoxiao, that was the most important issue at hand.

Fu Xiaoxiao is a good girl, Lu Feng obviously noticed it and developed feelings for her.

Now it depends on Fu Xiaoxiao’s thoughts, whether they align with Lu Feng’s feelings.

”Do you want to hear the truth or a lie?” Fu Xiaoxiao pursed her lips, looking at Lin Qiu.

Lin Qiu glared at her. ”What nonsense! Of course, the truth.”

”The truth is, I don’t know.” Fu Xiaoxiao said frankly. ”I never expected it would turn real between us. Initially, I came just for the task of taking care of Lu Lin and Lu Chen, as long as the two kids were looked after, and I received the subsidy promised by Lu Feng, I’d wait until they no longer needed me, then divorce Lu Feng and leave...”

Fu Xiaoxiao’s words surprised Lin Qiu, not expecting such thoughts, but after consideration, it made sense.

With no emotional foundation and marrying by agreement, when Fu Xiaoxiao wants to leave, she merely needs to tell Lu Feng.

Who would have thought everything changed, Lu Feng developed feelings.

Outside the door, Lu Feng silently leaned against the wall eavesdropping, utterly crushed.
