A '70s Flash Marriage: Raising Cubs, Making Millions

Chapter 57: Chapter 57: Taming a Wolf into a Dog

Chen Xiu disagreed, and Li Sen and Li Lei lowered their heads in disappointment, reluctantly looking at the little wolf cub in Lu Lin’s arms.

”Xiao Xiao, don’t indulge them. This is a wolf cub, you can’t tame it! Every household is tight on food, don’t let your heart soften and lose your head,” Chen Xiu said seriously to Fu Xiaoxiao.

After speaking, she pulled Li Lei and Li Sen back home.

Lu Lin was left behind, silently looking down at the small head burrowing in his arms.

Fu Xiaoxiao looked at him in this state and sighed.

She slowly walked towards Lu Lin, and as Lu Lin noticed Fu Xiaoxiao approaching, his body tensed up, but he still refused to let go of the little wolf cub.

”Its leg was injured by a hunting trap, the mother wolf abandoned it. If we don’t save it, it will die.” Lu Lin lightly stroked the wolf cub with one hand, pulling back his clothes to show Fu Xiaoxiao the wound on its hind leg.

Some herbs were applied to the wound, evidently, Lu Lin had rescued it and found hemostatic herbs for it.

”Can I eat one less mouthful and give it half of my food? I’ll also study hard in school and help with the chores at home. Can I keep it?” Lu Lin mustered the courage to look at Fu Xiaoxiao, a hint of pleading in his eyes.

Fu Xiaoxiao did not immediately agree but asked softly, ”Are you willing to go hungry just to keep it? What if its wound heals and when it grows up, its comrades come looking for it?”

”Then I’ll let it be with its comrades, I don’t mind.” Lu Lin looked at Fu Xiaoxiao, having considered this issue. Although he would certainly be reluctant, it is a wolf, and he would not force it to stay by his side.

”Since you’ve thought it through, you have to be responsible for it! From now on, it is your little wolf.” Fu Xiaoxiao saw the longing in his eyes. Perhaps Lu Lin saw himself in this little wolf; like him, it was abandoned by its mother, burdened with responsibilities at a young age, striving to live strongly with his brother.

The best way to heal him is to let him heal this little wolf.

”You... you really agree?” Along the way, Lu Lin heard Li Sen and Liu Yang say that their mothers would never agree to them keeping it, and all their reasons were seemingly legitimate.

They had no hope. It was he who insisted on bringing it back.

He made up his mind that if Fu Xiaoxiao didn’t agree to let him keep it at home, he would raise it in the back mountain.

”If I didn’t agree, were you planning to run away from home with it?” Fu Xiaoxiao chuckled, tweaking his nose.

”...If you didn’t agree, I would raise it in the back mountain.” Lu Lin answered honestly.

”Aren’t there many wild animals in the back mountain? Aren’t you afraid of it being snatched away at night? It’s injured, the blood scent will surely attract beasts.” Fu Xiaoxiao didn’t believe the beasts in the back mountain would spare an injured wolf cub.

”...” Lu Lin was startled, he had forgotten about this.

Fu Xiaoxiao patted his head.

”Let’s go! Head home first.”

”Brother!!” Seeing Lu Lin return, Lu Chen, who was lying in the courtyard counting ants, excitedly climbed up and rushed towards Lu Lin.

”Don’t come over!” Lu Lin frowned, quickly stopping Lu Chen.

”Why? Don’t you like me anymore?” Lu Chen’s eyes reddened, looking at Lu Lin aggrievedly.

”Because your brother saved an injured little wolf cub. If you rush over, the wolf cub might get hurt.” Fu Xiaoxiao smiled and explained for Lu Lin.

”Where? Where is the wolf cub?” Lu Chen was ecstatic, finally seeing the little sleeping wolf cub in Lu Lin’s arms.

He carefully touched and stroked it, feeling its soft fur, and it was alive.

”Don’t wake it up!” Lu Lin covered Lu Chen’s mouth, knowing he would squeal when he got excited.

Lu Chen obediently nodded, his eyes sparkling. ”Brother, can it sleep with us tonight?”

Fu Xiaoxiao looked at Lu Lin, who seemed to want to nod, and quietly shook her head. ”It can’t sleep in your bed with you.”

”Then where does it sleep?” Lu Lin paused, looking at Fu Xiaoxiao.

”You can use your old clothes to make it a little nest!” Fu Xiaoxiao folded a sewing machine box into a small nest, signaling Lu Lin and Lu Chen to bring the old clothes they had outgrown.

Lu Chen immediately ran back to his room, bringing out the small clothes he had worn.

But there were only a couple, just a thin layer like a rag.

Fu Xiaoxiao sighed softly, realizing these two little guys lacked clothes too.

”Just make do for now! Tomorrow, we’ll go to the village to get some straw to raise it a bit.” Fu Xiaoxiao said.

If there wasn’t enough fabric, then straw would have to do.

Lu Lin carefully placed the little wolf cub into the box. The wolf cub, having lost the warmth of his embrace, reached an unfamiliar box and combined with its injury, it howled desperately calling for its mother.

Lu Lin immediately reached out his hand, gently stroking the wolf cub, and perhaps smelling Lu Lin’s scent, the wolf cub gradually calmed down, slowly falling asleep.

Fu Xiaoxiao was taken aback, not expecting that Lu Lin, who was so cold to others, would be so gentle with the wolf cub.

”The wolf cub is still young; I don’t know if it can eat food.” Fu Xiaoxiao looked at its small size, estimating only about a month old, and at this age, the wolf cub would still need its mother’s milk for nutrition and immune protection.

”To survive, it will eat.” Lu Lin looked at the wolf cub, not knowing what he thought of, his gaze darkening.

Fu Xiaoxiao sighed lightly, knowing he was reminded of his own past experiences, and rubbed his head. ”Go and greet Mr. Lu, he’s back from the hospital. He’s in the room now! Knock before you go in, Brother Xiao Lu is there too.”

”Mr. Lu is back?” Hearing that Lu Feng was back, Lu Lin immediately got up and walked towards Lu Feng’s room. He wanted to push the door open but remembered Fu Xiaoxiao’s words, and gently knocked on the door.

”That’s it for today!” Lu Feng heard the knock and said to Wang Lu. ”Xiao Lin? Come in.”

”Yes.” Wang Lu nodded in response.

”Mr. Lu.” Lu Lin walked into the room after hearing Lu Feng’s call.

”Hmm.” Lu Feng nodded.

”...”

Wang Lu looked at the warm scene before him, thinking about the joy of father-son reunion, when the room suddenly fell silent.

Looking at the two father and son staring at each other, without words.

Wang Lu was startled.

Is that it? What’s next?

When Fu Xiaoxiao came in, she saw the father and son glaring at each other, noticing Wang Lu’s awkwardness, and chuckled lightly.

”Lu Lin brought back a little wolf cub from school today. He wants to keep it, so I asked him to come to see what you think.” Fu Xiaoxiao’s words made Lu Lin’s eyes fill with worry.

”Mr. Lu... I... I will definitely study well...” It seemed that Lu Lin was afraid Lu Feng would refuse and stammered nervously in front of him.

Fu Xiaoxiao raised an eyebrow.

Oh dear, there’s a difference! He’s never been this nervous in front of me! Even stuttering!

”You may.” Lu Feng glanced at Fu Xiaoxiao, then turned to Lu Lin and nodded in agreement.

”If you tame it, it can guard the house.” Lu Feng was a bit surprised to hear it was a wolf cub. He knew mother wolves rarely abandoned their pups.

Training a wolf to be a guard dog seemed like a good idea to him.
