A '70s Flash Marriage: Raising Cubs, Making Millions

Chapter 54: Chapter 54: The Village Chief Who Wants to Protect Li Xiang

With a muffled groan of pain, Li Xiang’s body curled forward uncontrollably from the sudden attack.

Fu Xiaoxiao didn’t stop there. She immediately lifted her left leg, knee rising high, then drove it forward with explosive force, slamming her kneecap hard into Li Xiang’s face.

With a ”crack” that sounded suspiciously like a nose bridge snapping, Li Xiang’s body flew backward like a kite with its string cut, crashing heavily to the ground. The brick in his hand also fell to the side with a loud ”clang.”

Face dark, Fu Xiaoxiao walked up to Li Xiang, grabbed his collar, and slapped him viciously across the face.

”A sneak attack?”

”You dare come at me with a brick?”

”Hit me?”

”Get up and try hitting me again, let me see?”

”You think I learned karate for nothing? It’s exactly for scum like you! Filthy scum!”

Fu Xiaoxiao slapped Li Xiang again and again, still not venting her anger, her hands flying left and right.

Xiao Heng watched Li Xiang, whose face was now covered in blood from the slaps, then silently stepped up to stand in front of Fu Xiaoxiao.

”Ahem, Mr. Fu, he’s already unconscious from your slaps.” Xiao Heng reminded her quietly.

Hearing Xiao Heng, Fu Xiaoxiao lowered her head to glance at the already fainted Li Xiang, then finally let go.

”Do you know who he is?” Fu Xiaoxiao took out a handkerchief to wipe the blood from her hands, looking at Xiao Heng as she asked.

”Li Xiang, Aunt Li’s son—the one you sent to prison.” Of course Xiao Heng recognized him. He was notorious in the village as a good-for-nothing thug, never doing proper work, spending his days stealing chickens and dogs.

”This world is really that small?” Fu Xiaoxiao raised a brow. She’d just sent his mom in, and now she ran into the son?

This was practically a ”mother and son reunion” arc!

”It’s probably not that small. More likely he came specifically for you.” Xiao Heng didn’t agree with Fu Xiaoxiao’s take. That brick in Li Xiang’s hand was clearly something he’d brought, and at the end of this road there was a school.

”Coming for me? Trying to avenge his mom?” Fu Xiaoxiao thought about it; that really was the only explanation. ”But how did he know I was here?”

After all, when she entered the village, everyone was busy. Someone like Li Xiang definitely wouldn’t be out working in the fields, so how did he know she’d come to the village?

Xiao Heng also felt something was off.

After the two of them pondered for a moment...

”Someone tipped him off.”

”Someone tipped him off.”

Fu Xiaoxiao and Xiao Heng spoke in unison.

”But who would it be?” The two looked at each other. In Upper River Village, apart from Aunt Wang and the others, if there was anyone who could hate her enough to do this, it could only be...

”Xu Linlin!”

”Xu Linlin.”

Fu Xiaoxiao and Xiao Heng said the name one after the other.

”Besides her, there really isn’t a second candidate!” Xiao Heng looked at Fu Xiaoxiao. Ever since she’d made a scene at the educated youth compound last time, he’d reassigned Xu Linlin’s position to someone else. From that day on, Xu Linlin had nursed a grudge against her.

”If it’s her, that makes things easy.” Fu Xiaoxiao nodded calmly. As long as she knew who it was, she’d know what move to make.

”Whatever you need done, I can help.” Xiao Heng looked at Fu Xiaoxiao. He would help her.

”Village Head, they’re over here!” Just as Fu Xiaoxiao was about to speak, a voice came from not far away. Xu Linlin arrived with the village head, followed by a crowd of villagers.

”Mr. Fu, are you alright? I just saw Li Xiang heading your way with a brick in his hand...” Xu Linlin had expected Fu Xiaoxiao to get a good beating from Li Xiang, but when she brought people over, Fu Xiaoxiao wasn’t hurt at all?

What the hell? That useless trash Li Xiang couldn’t even get this simple job done?

A flash of viciousness crossed Xu Linlin’s eyes. Fu Xiaoxiao had been watching her the whole time, so naturally she didn’t miss the disappointment in Xu Linlin’s gaze.

So it really was her.

”Li Xiang’s over here.” Xiao Heng pointed at Li Xiang, and only then did the village head notice the motionless body lying on the ground.

”Oh my! Is Li Xiang dead?” The villagers hurried forward and flipped Li Xiang over, seeing his blood-covered face and assuming he was dead.

”He’s not dead, just knocked out.” Fu Xiaoxiao blinked, looking innocent.

”What happened here?” The village head’s expression darkened. Even though no one had died, from the look of things, this wasn’t a small matter.

”I went to the school to deliver food to my son. When I came out, I saw Li Xiang squatting by the roadside, brick in hand...” Fu Xiaoxiao pointed at Li Xiang and spoke slowly.

”That brat Li Xiang definitely wanted revenge!”

”Of course he did. Mr. Fu sent his mother to prison. With the kind of person he is, there’s nothing he wouldn’t do...”

”Then isn’t this just what he deserves? Brought it on himself?”

”Didn’t expect Xiao to be this tough, though. To beat Li Xiang till he looks like this.”

”If it weren’t for Xiao, who knows what Li Xiang might have done!”

The villagers looked at Li Xiang, then at the seemingly delicate Fu Xiaoxiao and the tall, strapping Xiao Heng, and directly eliminated Fu Xiaoxiao from suspicion. Obviously Xiao Heng had stepped in to save her.

The village head looked at Fu Xiaoxiao, noting that her clothes were intact, and finally let out a breath.

If anything happened to Fu Xiaoxiao in their village, then this village was done for.

”As long as you’re alright.” The village head walked up to Fu Xiaoxiao. ”It’s good you’re fine. As for him, how do you want to handle it?”

The village head had already seen Fu Xiaoxiao’s methods last time. When he pleaded for Aunt Li, one sentence from Fu Xiaoxiao was enough to put Aunt Li behind bars. She was not someone who could be placated easily.

”Village Head, how do you think he should be dealt with?” Fu Xiaoxiao tossed the question back to him. ”In broad daylight, taking a brick and blocking someone on the street to attempt assault—this kind of dangerous person, Village Head, have you figured out how to deal with him?”

The village head paused, heart sinking.

”We’ll lock him in the ancestral hall for half a year. How about that?”

Fu Xiaoxiao gave the village head a sideways look. Still trying to protect him.

”Beep! Beep!” Suddenly two horn blasts came from the back of the crowd, startling everyone.

The crowd parted to make way as Wang Lu drove in. Seeing Fu Xiaoxiao, he finally relaxed.

”Sis-in-law!”

Wang Lu jumped out of the vehicle and ran toward Fu Xiaoxiao.

”Xiao Lu, what are you doing here?” Fu Xiaoxiao was taken aback. Why had Wang Lu come?

”Camp Commander Lu... oh, I need to start calling him Regiment Commander Lu now—Mr. Lu was worried about you and specifically sent me to pick you up. What happened here?” Wang Lu explained to Fu Xiaoxiao.

It was really Lu Feng. After Wang Lu settled him in, Lu Feng had said Fu Xiaoxiao had been gone too long delivering food to the village and hadn’t returned yet. He was worried something might happen to her, so he told Wang Lu to go fetch her.

”She was almost attacked.” Xiao Heng glanced at Wang Lu. Knowing the village head couldn’t really stand up for Fu Xiaoxiao, it was better to tell this man.

”What? Who dared lay a hand on my sis-in-law?” Wang Lu’s expression darkened as soon as he heard Xiao Heng.

After Fu Xiaoxiao finished recounting what had happened, Wang Lu’s face was iron-blue, his eyes practically spitting fire.

They’d actually plotted to hurt his sis-in-law?

The village head hurried to explain on the side. ”We’ve already dealt with it. He’ll be locked in the ancestral hall for half a year.”

”Half a year? You think locking him up for half a year is enough when he premeditated an attack on a military family member?” Wang Lu only got angrier as he listened. He could tell the village head wanted to smooth things over and pretend it was settled.
