A '70s Flash Marriage: Raising Cubs, Making Millions

Chapter 49: Chapter 49: Lin Qiu’s Rebirth

”Xiao Lu, are we heading to the police station?” Fu Xiaoxiao guessed Wang Lu’s intention and asked with a smile.

”Sis, guys like this should be thrown in to eat lead.” Wang Lu nodded. ”Hold tight, I’m going to speed up.”

With that, he stepped hard on the gas pedal, and the car immediately accelerated forward.

Lin Xue’s eyes lit up; she thought the same as Wang Lu—such scoundrels should eat lead!

Arriving at the town’s police station, Wang Lu braked abruptly, and Lin Xue hurriedly grabbed Lin Qiu, while Fu Xiaoxiao quickly held Lu Chen tightly to prevent him from hitting the car window.

Wang Lu parked the car and went into the police station. Fu Xiaoxiao and the others sat in the car, watching him walk in, take out his ID, and soon several police officers ran out, riding bicycles to respond to the alert.

”All set.” Wang Lu returned to the car and winked at Lin Xue. ”I told them there’s a major case, and they’re on their way.”

”That’s great!” Lin Xue clapped excitedly, full of joy.

Seeing her so happy, Lin Qiu slightly curved her lips.

Upon returning to the base, Fu Xiaoxiao carried Lu Chen out of the car. Lin Xue thanked Fu Xiaoxiao together with Lin Qiu. ”Thank you so much, really. I don’t know what to say other than a huge thank you. I will repay your kindness when I get the chance.”

Lin Xue grabbed Fu Xiaoxiao’s hand; it was Fu Xiaoxiao’s assertiveness that overwhelmed the Liu Family, otherwise, Old Mrs. Liu wouldn’t have let go of Lin Qiu so easily.

Each move by Fu Xiaoxiao was targeted at the Liu Family, instilling a sense of respect and fear in them, leaving Fu Xiaoxiao in control of the whole rhythm afterward.

When Fu Xiaoxiao mentioned that five hundred wasn’t a problem, the Liu Family didn’t even doubt; furthermore, when Fu Xiaoxiao demanded another thirteen hundred, Old Mrs. Liu immediately shook her head, refusing money without any dispute, which left Lin Xue feeling unbelievable.

”Is your sister’s accommodation arranged?” Fu Xiaoxiao asked with a light smile.

”Yes, I’ve been preparing for this day. I reported the situation to my unit, and they’re willing to pay extra for a single dormitory. As long as we pay a little extra each month, I can live with my sister.” Lin Xue replied happily.

She had been planning early to ensure her sister could come home with her and have a place to stay.

”You’ve truly done a lot for your sister!” Fu Xiaoxiao admired Lin Xue a bit, realizing she indeed had considered everything for Lin Qiu.

”Hehe, it’s what I should do.” Lin Xue chuckled, feeling a bit embarrassed by the compliment.

”My home is in the family compound; if you have free time, feel free to come visit us.” Fu Xiaoxiao invited the two sisters, eager to befriend them.

”Really? Then I’ll definitely bring my sister!” Lin Xue looked excitedly at Fu Xiaoxiao, and Lin Qiu also cast a grateful look toward her.

”Thank you.” Lin Xue felt at ease knowing someone she could rely on when unfamiliar with the place.

”No need for thanks; we’re all friends now.” Fu Xiaoxiao waved goodbye with a smile, taking Lu Chen and his precious herbs home.

After Fu Xiaoxiao left, Lin Xue turned back and saw Wang Lu still by the car. She thanked Wang Lu with a smile, ”Mr. Wang, I can’t thank you enough for today. You looked incredibly cool when you punched Liu Qiang.”

”Whenever you need anything, feel free to come to me.” Wang Lu said loudly, his ears turning red as he looked at Lin Xue.

”Thank you!” Lin Xue left with Lin Qiu, not forgetting to wave back at Wang Lu.

Lin Qiu glanced back, noting Wang Lu’s dumbstruck stare at them, a light smile forming at the corner of her mouth.

”This Mr. Wang is indeed a good person.” Lin Qiu commented to Lin Xue, probing her reaction.

”Right? I thought he nailed that scoundrel so well!” Lin Xue got excited recalling the scene of Liu Qiang getting slapped, feeling that the scoundrel who bullied her sister deserved it.

”Tomorrow I’ll make some food, and you can take it to them. It’s a way of saying thanks.” Lin Qiu pondered, deciding to send some food as a small gesture.

”Great!” Lin Xue readily agreed.

Her eyes were full of anticipation, as she was super happy today.

Lin Qiu patted Lin Xue’s head. ”You’ve really grown up.”

Fu Xiaoxiao brought Lu Chen back home, where he immediately went to handle the herbs. Fu Xiaoxiao checked the time; it was nearly noon, time to prepare lunch.

”Xiao Chen, what do you want for lunch?” Fu Xiaoxiao asked softly, seeing Lu Chen busy at work.

”Anything mom makes is fine; everything mom cooks is delicious!” Lu Chen looked up cheerfully and replied.

Fu Xiaoxiao chuckled and rubbed his head, delighted he was still calling her ’mom,’ then turned and walked towards the backyard.

Once Fu Xiaoxiao’s figure disappeared around the corner, Lu Chen stopped what he was doing, his little face full of mischievous joy.

Turns out calling her ’mom’ isn’t so hard after all!

Fu Xiaoxiao picked a pumpkin and asked Lu Chen, ”Xiao Chen, does your dad like sweet things?”

”Dad eats everything; me and brother like sweet.” Lu Chen thought, since Lu Feng wasn’t picky with food.

”Then how about making pumpkin soup today?” Fu Xiaoxiao suggested with a smile.

”Yes, yes, yes! I want some!” Lu Chen clapped his little hands eagerly at the thought of Fu Xiaoxiao making something sweet.

Fu Xiaoxiao saw his dirty little hands and quickly stepped aside. ”Oh, the little dirty hands.”

”Hehe, I’ll wash my hands.” Lu Chen ran off obediently to wash his hands.

Fu Xiaoxiao, carrying the pumpkin, went to the well, drew water, washed the pumpkin’s skin clean, brought it back to the kitchen, cut it into pieces, and discovered some glutinous rice flour in the corner of the cabinet.

Her eyes sparkled; glutinous rice balls and pumpkin soup are a perfect match!

No one can resist those little glutinous balls!

She took out the glutinous rice flour, added water, kneaded it into dough, then rolled it into fingertip-sized balls.

”What’s that?” Lu Chen came back with clean hands and saw Fu Xiaoxiao making little balls.

Fu Xiaoxiao smiled, sharing some with him. ”Look carefully, like this—pull off a little piece, then roll it between your palms like this, and look, it turns into a little ball!”

”Ah, ah, ah! I want to play, I want to play!” Lu Chen, seeing Fu Xiaoxiao’s demonstration, excitedly wanted to try himself.

Though clumsy at first, he gradually seemed to find the knack and shaped many uneven-sized balls.

”Xiao Chen did a great job, keep it up. So, shall I leave the rest to you?” Fu Xiaoxiao smiled and handed him the remaining dough.

”Yes! I can help, I’ll do it!” Lu Chen focused on rolling the balls, ignoring even the flour stuck to his face.

Fu Xiaoxiao watched him adorably, smiled, and went back to the stove, lit the fire, poured all the cut pumpkin pieces into the big pot. Once the pumpkin was stir-fried half-way, Fu Xiaoxiao added water, then covered the pot with a lid.

Meanwhile, Lu Chen already rolled a tray of small balls, awaiting Fu Xiaoxiao’s praise.
