A '70s Flash Marriage: Raising Cubs, Making Millions

Chapter 96: Chapter 96: Views on Marriage

Fu Xiaoxiao didn’t have much of a reaction to this. After all, she was just hired to be a nanny, not to mention Lu Feng said from the beginning that she shouldn’t harbor any illusions about him.

She’s not stupid, why would she let herself get carried away with romantic fantasies?

Fu Xiaoxiao’s indifferent response made Lu Feng’s initially good mood stumble.

She had no reaction when he said such things?

Does this woman even have a heart? 𝑓𝑟ℯℴ𝓂

He had hinted so much, wanting to be with her forever, supporting each other...

”So what did she do to make you so annoyed?” Fu Xiaoxiao looked at Lu Feng, suddenly curious.

”...Nothing much, just imposing conditions on me as soon as she met me. She thought it was my honor that she liked me and told me to prepare a dowry. The dowry shouldn’t embarrass her, at least 400 yuan, plus a Three Rounds and a Sound. After marriage, she won’t cook, let alone do my laundry...” Lu Feng casually recounted what Liu Jing had said to him back then.

Fu Xiaoxiao and Lin Qiu blinked in shock.

Goodness, that’s quite audacious.

No wonder Lu Feng didn’t fancy her. For someone as proud as him, how could he accept such belittlement?

”To make you so angry as to randomly marry a woman, she must be quite something.” Fu Xiaoxiao hadn’t forgotten that back then, Lu Feng’s little notebook was filled with names of women.

”Indeed, I was a bit hasty back then.” Lu Feng looked deeply at Fu Xiaoxiao. Back then, he was fuming and looking for a wife, setting so many harsh standards.

Looking back now, it was indeed very inappropriate.

Fu Xiaoxiao glanced at Lu Feng in surprise. What did he mean by bringing this up suddenly?

A chill ran down her spine.

Could it be he thinks paying her forty yuan a month is too much?

No, please! She had a hard time finding such a good job and didn’t want to change employers!

”Are you hungry? Should I cook something?” Fu Xiaoxiao looked at Lu Feng with a flattering expression. She needed to serve her boss well.

She couldn’t afford to lose this job.

”...Are you hungry?” Lu Feng paused. It was indeed mealtime.

”Then I’ll cook!” Lin Qiu heard this and quickly headed to the kitchen.

”Aunt Lin, I’ll help you.” Lu Chen flashed his big eyes and ran into the kitchen with Lin Qiu.

Leaving Fu Xiaoxiao and Lu Feng sitting in the courtyard.

Fu Xiaoxiao awkwardly tapped her toes on the ground.

Why hasn’t he left yet?

”Fu...Xiaoxiao, what do you think of me?” Lu Feng looked seriously at Fu Xiaoxiao, catching her off guard with the sudden question.

What does he mean, what does she think?

Surely, the boss wants to part ways with her?

After all, now that Liu Jing’s services are no longer needed, he can avoid spending a lot on a nanny.

”What...which aspect are you referring to?” Fu Xiaoxiao wiped non-existent sweat and cautiously asked.

”About me personally.” Lu Feng wanted to know how Fu Xiaoxiao evaluated him.

”You’re pretty good, aren’t you? Good-looking, great physique, capable, and considerate, right?” Fu Xiaoxiao glanced at Lu Feng, cautiously probing.

What was the boss hoping to hear?

She didn’t know too many flattering words.

Hearing that Fu Xiaoxiao’s evaluation of him was quite good, Lu Feng’s lips curled into a pleased smile.

”Then if there were no prior agreements, would you marry a man like me?” Lu Feng nervously clenched his fists, tentatively asking.

”You mean, do you mean if women would marry you given your qualifications?” Fu Xiaoxiao was a bit confused. Did the boss have someone in mind?

”You could say that.” Lu Feng nodded, looking expectantly at Fu Xiaoxiao.

”I think, given your conditions, not many women would reject you, right?” Fu Xiaoxiao thought for a moment. If she encountered Lu Feng under normal circumstances, she thought she probably wouldn’t choose him.

”What about you? Would you accept?” Lu Feng swallowed nervously and seriously asked. ”If you hadn’t been kicked out by your family and didn’t need to go to the countryside, what would you have chosen?”

”If it was like that, I probably wouldn’t accept,” Fu Xiaoxiao reflected. If it wasn’t for the fact that Lu Feng was wealthy and offered favorable conditions, she probably wouldn’t have agreed.

”Why?” Lu Feng tightly clenched his fists, unable to accept this answer.

”...Why? Why else? Of course, because marriage is a very sacred thing, and I think two people should at least understand each other before stepping into marriage, including worldviews, hobbies, whether they have common topics...” Fu Xiaoxiao thought about it. Without those prerequisites, she definitely wouldn’t have easily committed herself.

Fu Xiaoxiao’s earnest answer made Lu Feng sigh in relief and was also captivated by her words.

”Imagine, you’d have to spend a lifetime with a stranger! Marriage involves having children, and jointly sharing responsibilities. If you don’t understand each other before marriage, don’t you think your married life is unknown and daunting?” Fu Xiaoxiao considered this a very scary hypothesis.

”Fortunate ones marry the right man and are cherished for a lifetime. But what if you’re not lucky? What if the partner is a domestic abuser? What if he has no ambition and depends on others? Or if he has affairs outside?” Fu Xiaoxiao had witnessed these things often enough in her past life, which was also the main reason she was unwilling to marry.

She had seen many people who came together out of love, but friction developed because of different values, turning the closest lovers into adversaries.

There are countless such examples.

”I don’t hit women. I can share responsibilities,” Lu Feng looked at Fu Xiaoxiao, unable to control the way her words touched him.

What she described was exactly what he’d always wanted. He didn’t want just to carry on the family line, but for two people to stand shoulder to shoulder, supporting each other. Her insight proved she was the partner he’d been searching for.

To support each other, hand in hand, until old age.

”Sorry, were my words a bit shocking?” Fu Xiaoxiao saw Lu Feng dazed and thought she had scared him.

After all, in the current era, marriage could be decided with just a few words. Some even married without meeting each other.

To suggest dating first and getting to know each other would undoubtedly be seen as outrageously unconventional.

After all, as the saying goes, ’all close relationships not aimed at marriage are just playing around.’

And playing around could get you in trouble.

”No, I think what you said is great! If you seriously understand your partner before marriage and confirm he is the right one, you won’t have complaints.” Lu Feng seemed to have some blurred images flash through his mind, causing his brow to furrow.

”You think so too?” Fu Xiaoxiao’s eyes lit up. This gave her a bit of a pleasant surprise.

It felt like she’d found a kindred spirit.

”Yes. But Uncle Liu always says I’m unrealistic.” Lu Feng nodded, saying that he had talked about this with Liu Hongjun back then.

Though Liu Hongjun laughed at him, saying it was impossible.

Fu Xiaoxiao’s lips curved. ”Indeed, if it’s a bad person, then they can act irresponsibly by just playing around.”
