A '70s Flash Marriage: Raising Cubs, Making Millions

Chapter 90: Chapter 90: Lu Chen Wants a Little Sister

Lu Lin’s gaze fell on Fu Xiaoxiao, and he quietly asked, ”Can I... write about you?”

If Fu Xiaoxiao hadn’t been listening carefully, she would’ve thought he was just muttering to himself.

”Of course you can! As your Mrs. Fu, I’m honored to be the main character in your composition.” Fu Xiaoxiao replied with a smile. The fact that Lu Lin was willing to write about her genuinely surprised her.

After all, with an essay like this, in a child’s heart the first choice is definitely their biological mother.

”Mm, then I’ll go back to my room to write.” Lu Lin was about to start, but seeing Fu Xiaoxiao sitting beside him, he suddenly felt a bit embarrassed and put his composition notebook away.

”Mrs. Fu, I’ll write it in my room.” Lu Lin, face slightly flushed, hugged his homework and ran back to his own room.

Sitting next to Fu Xiaoxiao, having her watch him like that, was really a bit embarrassing.

Fu Xiaoxiao was taken aback. ”Uh, is there anything you need my help with?”

”No.” Lu Lin raised his voice and replied.

As for Fu Xiaoxiao’s kindness, Lu Lin had long since formed his own answer in his heart.

”Bro, what are you writing?” Lu Chen curiously leaned over. It was rare to see Lu Lin take his homework back to his room.

”I’m writing about Mrs. Fu. What do you think is good about Mrs. Fu?” Lu Lin was in the middle of writing. When he saw Lu Chen, he asked with a smile.

”Everything’s good about Mrs. Fu. Her cooking is delicious, she’s gentle, she makes little bags for me, and makes new clothes for me. Even when I don’t wash my bowl clean, she doesn’t scold me, and I saw her secretly wash it again.” The words came right out of Lu Chen’s mouth. He could list so, so many good things about Fu Xiaoxiao.

”Anything else?” Lu Lin’s eyes lit up, and he immediately wrote down everything Lu Chen had just said in his homework.

”Mm... Mrs. Fu smells nice, and she’s like you, Bro—she protected me. When the bad guys wanted to hit me, Mrs. Fu rushed over and held me, and she got hit by the bad guys instead.” As Lu Chen said this, his eyes reddened.

”Bro, I like Mrs. Fu. I wish she were my real mom.” Lu Chen lifted his head to look at Lu Lin. Right now, Fu Xiaoxiao’s figure had completely taken over his heart.

She was the best mom in the world.

An even better mom than his birth mother.

”She already is. From now on, our mom will only be her.” Lu Lin looked at Lu Chen, his eyes full of sincerity.

”Mm.” Seeing that Lu Lin also acknowledged Fu Xiaoxiao, Lu Chen’s eyes instantly gleamed. He was overjoyed.

They saw clearly how good Fu Xiaoxiao was to them. Children who’d once lost everything remembered every single person who treated them kindly.

Including Grandpa Bai, who picked them up off the street, and Lu Feng, who adopted them, and... Fu Xiaoxiao, who gave them a mother’s warmth.

Fu Xiaoxiao gave them the greatest freedom, never restricting them. This looseness let them feel completely at ease in this home, like it was truly their own.

The two brothers took turns, one sentence after another, talking about how good Fu Xiaoxiao was. In the next room, Fu Xiaoxiao, who caught bits of it from time to time, lay in bed with the corners of her lips never once dropping.

So in the brothers’ hearts, she was already this good?

But she felt she hadn’t done well enough. Still, being accepted by them—there was no way Fu Xiaoxiao could say she wasn’t happy.

In the middle of the night, half asleep, Fu Xiaoxiao seemed to hear someone standing by her bed. When she opened her eyes to look carefully, there seemed to be no one there. With her big heart, she slept soundly all the way through.

The next morning, Fu Xiaoxiao was woken by noises coming from the kitchen.

When she got up, she saw Lu Feng with the two little guys, busily making breakfast.

”Morning! What are you all up to?” Fu Xiaoxiao leaned against the doorframe, watching the three of them fluster around in the kitchen, and greeted them with a laugh.

”Mom, Dad and I want to make breakfast for you.” Lu Chen happily ran over, wrapped his arms around Fu Xiaoxiao, and giggled.

”You’re awake? The hot water’s already boiled. Go wash your face and brush your teeth. We’ll have breakfast ready soon.” Lu Feng turned around and said to Fu Xiaoxiao with a smile.

”Mom, I’ll mix the hot water for you.” Lu Lin picked up the thermos and went to mix hot water in Fu Xiaoxiao’s washbasin so she could wash her face and brush her teeth.

Being fussed over by the three of them like this, Fu Xiaoxiao chuckled softly. ”Then thank you all!”

Fu Xiaoxiao turned to wash her face. Lu Lin and Lu Chen looked at Lu Feng with furrowed brows. ”Dad, can you really make breakfast?”

”...Shouldn’t be too much of a problem.” Lu Feng stared at the lump of completely mushy vegetable congee in front of him, sounding not very sure.

When Fu Xiaoxiao finished washing up and came back to the table, she saw the three of them with their heads down.

”What’s wrong?” Seeing how dejected they looked, Fu Xiaoxiao mentally braced herself.

She watched as Lu Feng, face full of embarrassment, brought over the carefully cooked vegetable... congee and set it in front of her.

”Vegetable rice, not bad at all.” Fu Xiaoxiao praised with a smile.

This was already much better than the worst she’d imagined.

”...” Lu Feng covered his face with one hand, too embarrassed to look at Fu Xiaoxiao.

”Mom, this is... vegetable congee.” Lu Lin glanced at Lu Feng and quietly corrected.

”...This is congee? That’s fine, all the flavor’s cooked right in.” Fu Xiaoxiao looked at the lump in front of her. She’d thought it was vegetable rice; she hadn’t expected it to actually be congee.

”Don’t eat it. I’ll go to the cafeteria and buy you some steamed buns!” Seeing Fu Xiaoxiao about to take a bite, Lu Feng wanted to stop her.

Fu Xiaoxiao chuckled, took a spoonful and put it in her mouth. It wasn’t as bad as she’d imagined; you could at least get it down.

”It’s okay. It’s just a bit too dry. The flavor’s actually fine.” Fu Xiaoxiao commented fairly.

”You don’t have to comfort me.” Lu Feng’s eyes softened. He was moved by Fu Xiaoxiao’s little consolation prize.

”I’m really not lying to you. It’s actually fine, just a little dry.” Fu Xiaoxiao scooped up a spoonful and held it to Lu Feng’s mouth, signaling him to taste it himself.

Lu Feng, half doubtful, opened his mouth and tasted it. It wasn’t as good as Fu Xiaoxiao’s cooking, but... it really was kind of okay.

Not exactly inedible.

”Oh oh oh oh... Dad’s eating with Mom’s spoon, how shameless.” Lu Chen suddenly pointed at Lu Feng and Fu Xiaoxiao, clapping as he laughed.

Lu Feng’s cheeks heated up; only then did he realize he’d just eaten from Fu Xiaoxiao’s spoon.

”Ahem.” Fu Xiaoxiao hadn’t thought much of it either. She’d only wanted to prove his cooking wasn’t that bad and hadn’t considered that angle.

”Hee hee, is Dad going to have a baby sister with Mom?” Lu Chen asked excitedly.

”You little rascal, what are you talking about! Your dad and I already have you and Xiao Lin, that’s enough. There won’t be a baby sister.” Fu Xiaoxiao hadn’t forgotten that Lu Feng couldn’t have children. Worried Lu Chen might touch that nerve, she hurried to say this to him.

Lu Feng had just been about to explain, but when he heard Fu Xiaoxiao say that, the smile on his face suddenly froze.

Seeing Lu Feng’s expression go stiff, Fu Xiaoxiao figured Lu Chen had still hurt Lu Feng, and she sighed inwardly.

”Why won’t there be a baby sister?” Lu Chen was stunned. Other people always said that after Mom and Dad got married, there’d soon be little brothers and sisters. Why wouldn’t Fu Xiaoxiao have a baby sister? ”Mom, I like baby sisters. Can’t you have a baby sister for me?”

”Cough, cough, cough...” Fu Xiaoxiao choked a bit, then quickly looked at Lu Chen and spoke seriously. ”Mom and Dad just want to raise you and your brother well. As for little brothers and sisters—aren’t you afraid that if I have them, I won’t like you anymore?”
