A '70s Flash Marriage: Raising Cubs, Making Millions

Chapter 68: Chapter 68: Lu Feng’s Teasing

Lu Chen’s reaction was beyond Fu Xiaoxiao’s expectations. She’d thought he’d be happy, but the little guy didn’t even want to go?

”How come? Weren’t you two really eager to see her before?” Fu Xiaoxiao squatted down to look at Lu Chen, reaching out to gently stroke his head.

”...She didn’t want me and my brother, so we don’t want her anymore.” Lu Chen pouted, wrapped his arms around Fu Xiaoxiao’s neck, and choked out.

Fu Xiaoxiao was stunned. So that was the reason.

”Alright, then we won’t go. It’s okay.” Fu Xiaoxiao lightly patted Lu Chen’s back to soothe him.

”I have Mrs. Fu and Mr. Lu. Mrs. Fu will love us, and Mr. Lu will protect us.” Lu Chen’s tear-filled eyes were full of dependence on the two of them.

”That’s right.” Fu Xiaoxiao chuckled softly and gently wiped away his tears. ”So you have to stay happy. If anything happens, tell your Mr. Lu and let us help you.”

”Okay.” Once coaxed, Lu Chen happily ran off to continue practicing his circles.

Kids are easy to soothe—their moods come and go quickly. It was like the one who’d just been sniffling wasn’t him at all.

She’d ask Lu Lin when he got back. As for their mother leaving, Fu Xiaoxiao felt Lu Lin was the one who had been hurt the most.

When Lu Lin came back, before Fu Xiaoxiao could say anything, he grabbed her and pulled her to the side, speaking mysteriously.

”Mrs. Fu, let me tell you, a big thing happened in the village today.”

”Huh?” Fu Xiaoxiao let out a curious little sound.

”That jerk who bullied you last time—he got beaten up, and beaten really badly.” Lu Lin’s eyes lit up as he looked at Fu Xiaoxiao.

”Who? That Li Xiang?” Fu Xiaoxiao froze for a moment and asked back.

”Yeah, that bad guy. Brother Wang Lu said he wanted to bully you and got locked up in the ancestral hall by the village chief.” Lu Lin nodded and told Fu Xiaoxiao what had happened today.

From Wang Lu, Lu Lin learned that Fu Xiaoxiao had almost been bullied when she brought him lunch. He got really angry and wanted to avenge her.

He told Niuwa about it. Niuwa patted his chest and said, as brothers, they’d go together, then took him along, ready to go to the ancestral hall to get revenge for Fu Xiaoxiao.

But when they went, they saw a bunch of adults gathered around the ancestral hall. Curious, they squeezed inside, only to see a man lying there covered in blood, motionless, and they didn’t even know if he was dead.

The village chief’s face was especially ugly, and in the end a few of the uncles in the village carried him off to the hospital.

”Serves him right.” Fu Xiaoxiao laughed. Hearing this news, she felt she could eat an extra bowl of rice tonight—her mood was ridiculously good.

”Mrs. Fu, what were you just about to say to me?” Seeing Fu Xiaoxiao smiling so happily, Lu Lin asked with a smile.

”Oh, didn’t I promise you before that I’d take you to find your mother? Well, I’ve asked around and got her address, so I wanted to ask you. This morning I asked Xiao Chen, but he said he didn’t want to go. Do you want to?” Fu Xiaoxiao looked at Lu Lin and asked softly.

”...I want to go.” Lu Lin was silent for a while, then lifted his head and answered firmly.

He wanted to go. He wanted to know whether, after leaving him and Xiao Chen, her days had become better.

”Then when do you want to go? I’ll go with you.” Fu Xiaoxiao patted his shoulder and asked gently.

”Can we wait until my school break?” Lu Lin cherished his school days now. He didn’t want to ask for leave, and he didn’t want to miss a single class.

”Sure. Just tell me before you want to go, and I’ll ask Wang Lu to drive us over then.” Fu Xiaoxiao nodded.

”Thank you.” Lu Lin lifted his head to look at Fu Xiaoxiao, his eyes filled with gratitude.

”What are you thanking me for? We’re family.” Fu Xiaoxiao ruffled his hair. Feeling the gentleness of her hand, the cold in Lu Lin’s eyes completely melted away.

”Is there anything in today’s homework you don’t understand? I’ll teach you.” Fu Xiaoxiao asked with a smile.

”...Yeah.” Lu Lin took out his books, and Fu Xiaoxiao gave her own head a little tap.

”Wait for me a second.” She smiled and walked into the room, taking out the small schoolbag she’d made from leftover fabric yesterday.

”This is for me?” Lu Lin’s eyes landed on the name on the schoolbag. Fu Xiaoxiao had actually used scraps of fabric to sew his name onto it.

”Mm-hmm. Take a look—do you like it?” Fu Xiaoxiao smiled as she hung the schoolbag over his shoulder.

”It looks nice.” Lu Lin looked at the name cut from different colored fabrics: ”Lu Lin.” It was his, just for him.

Lu Lin couldn’t wait to put all his books into the new schoolbag, then sling it onto his back.

Seeing him finally look a bit like a kid, Fu Xiaoxiao secretly laughed to herself.

”Mrs. Fu, I want one too.” Sitting next to them, Lu Chen pouted and wrapped his arms around Fu Xiaoxiao’s leg, acting spoiled.

”When I start school... will you make one for me too?” Lu Chen thought about it, afraid Fu Xiaoxiao would refuse since he wasn’t in school yet, so he quickly changed his wording.

”If your brother has one, how could you not?” Fu Xiaoxiao hooked a finger under Lu Chen’s little nose, motioning for him to let go. Once he let go of her leg, she went back to the room and took out a slightly smaller schoolbag.

”This one’s yours.” The instant Fu Xiaoxiao brought out the smaller schoolbag, Lu Chen was so excited he ran around in circles.

”Brother, look, I’ve got one too! This is my little schoolbag.” With the bag on his back, Lu Chen wished he could start school right this second.

”Mm, it looks nice.” Seeing that Lu Chen’s name was also on his little schoolbag, Lu Lin raised his head and met Fu Xiaoxiao’s gaze, unable to help the smile tugging at his lips.

The two little guys weren’t satisfied just wearing them around—they ran next door to the Li Family to show off to Li Lei and Li Sen, making them so jealous that they pestered Chen Xiu to make bags for them too.

Chen Xiu rolled her eyes at them and gave each of them a flick on the forehead.

Successfully harvesting two loudly crying little rascals.

Even sitting in his room, Lu Feng could hear Lu Lin and Lu Chen’s laughter, and he finally understood why Fu Xiaoxiao had won over the hearts of these two children in just a few days.

He really couldn’t compare to her.

He’d thought that as long as he fed them and gave them a room, he could walk into their hearts.

According to the agreement he had with her, she only needed to cook for the kids and take care of their daily needs. But what Fu Xiaoxiao did went far beyond that. She asked for their opinions, listened to their thoughts. With a mother like that, which child could possibly turn her away?

That night, when Fu Xiaoxiao brought the dishes into the room and saw Lu Feng already dressed to go out, she paused.

”You’re heading out already?”

”Yeah, I’ll slip away under cover of darkness in a bit.” Lu Feng walked up to Fu Xiaoxiao.

”Be careful on the way.” Fu Xiaoxiao didn’t really know what she should say. The words that made it out of her mouth ended up just being that one sentence.

”Comrade Fu Xiaoxiao...” Lu Feng looked at her seriously and suddenly called out.

”Uh... huh?” Fu Xiaoxiao was taken aback. With him suddenly addressing her so formally, she almost didn’t react.

When she looked up, her gaze met Lu Feng’s deep eyes. His pupils were slightly dilated as he stared at her intently. Fu Xiaoxiao felt a rush of heat rise up, the tips of her ears burning.

Why was he looking at her like that?

Lu Feng turned slightly to the side, not missing a single subtle change in her expression.
