A '70s Flash Marriage: Raising Cubs, Making Millions

Chapter 77: Chapter 77: Brother-in-Law Is So Nice

Lin Xue helped Fu Xiaoxiao prepare the dishes and sat beside Lu Chen, noticing that he had already set up the matches and expertly lit a fire.

”He’s really capable, huh?” Lin Xue thought Fu Xiaoxiao was just comforting a child, but was surprised to see that Lu Chen was genuinely skilled and looked at Fu Xiaoxiao in amazement.

”Of course, it’s true.” Fu Xiaoxiao chuckled lightly. ”He even knows how to adjust the flame when I cook different dishes!”

”Hehe.” Lu Chen was extremely happy to be praised again.

Seeing how well Fu Xiaoxiao and Lu Chen got along, Lin Xue was even more surprised.

She had heard some things about Fu Xiaoxiao and knew that she was a stepmother to two children. People often say it’s hard to be a stepmother, but watching Fu Xiaoxiao and Lu Chen, it seemed even more harmonious than a biological mother-son relationship.

What impressed Lin Xue even more next was Fu Xiaoxiao’s cooking skills.

Watching her simply stir-fry the dishes, using methods similar to what she and Lin Qiu did when cooking normally, why did her dishes smell so fragrant?

She had made stewed eggplant with beans before, but when Fu Xiaoxiao lifted the pot lid, a rich aroma immediately spread out along with the steam.

Just smelling it, Lin Xue felt her stomach protest with a grumble.

”It smells so good.” Lin Xue couldn’t help but take another sniff.

Fu Xiaoxiao made a total of four dishes and a soup, with Lin Xue watching closely from the side.

”Xiao Chen, dinner time!” Until all the dishes were served, Lin Xue felt only more tempted.

”Coming!” Lu Chen obediently ran out to wash his hands with soap.

Seeing the dishes were ready, Lin Qiu quickly got up to help serve them.

”Uncle, you have to wash your hands before eating!” Lu Chen shouted at Fu Cheng, who was still sitting at the table.

Fu Cheng glanced at the dishes on the table, got up and went to join Lu Chen, following his step-by-step instructions on how to wash hands properly, and patiently washed his hands.

When Lin Qiu came out with the dishes and saw Fu Cheng washing his hands, he smiled slightly.

Each of the four adults and one small child with their little wolf cub were served a bowl, and Lu Chen trusted Fu Xiaoxiao’s cooking skills unconditionally, giving her a sweet smile. ”Auntie Fu, your cooking is really delicious.”

”You’re such a sweet talker, hurry and eat!” Fu Xiaoxiao laughed and served him two chopsticks full.

Lin Xue couldn’t hold back any longer and had been eyeing the stewed eggplant with beans for quite a while; she reached out with her chopsticks to grab some.

”So fragrant! So delicious!” As soon as she tasted it, Lin Xue’s eyes lit up.

The beans were stewed to perfection, with their skins slightly wrinkled, yet they retained a fresh and tender quality. Having absorbed the essence of the beans and the soup, they became incredibly tender, melting in the mouth.

With a gentle press, the soft texture felt like a tender flower blossoming on the tongue, and the rich aroma quickly spread throughout the mouth, making one unable to stop taking bite after bite.

The crispness of the beans and the softness of the eggplant interwove together, combined with the fragrant rice, making each bite an ultimate temptation to the taste buds, leaving only a full sense of happiness.

”I declare that as long as there’s this dish, I can eat two bowls of rice!” Lin Xue couldn’t stop eating, one mouthful after the other.

Seeing Lin Xue’s reaction, the initially reserved Fu Cheng picked up his chopsticks to serve Lin Qiu some, and then served himself a large portion as well.

Lin Qiu was briefly stunned when Fu Cheng served her food, and the smile on her lips grew deeper.

Fu Cheng didn’t say whether he found it tasty, but his actions were direct enough, never slowing down his speed of serving himself.

Seeing how fast the stewed eggplant with beans was disappearing, Lin Xue bit her lip and sped up, competing with Fu Cheng for the dish.

Fu Xiaoxiao quickly served Lu Chen more to prevent him from missing out.

She and Lin Qiu calmly enjoyed the other dishes, Lin Qiu tasting them with surprise. ”How did you make it? It’s really delicious.”

”Your desserts are really tasty too!” Fu Xiaoxiao smiled at Lin Qiu, and the two shared a knowing look and laughed.

Why it was delicious, besides having some personal insight, was mainly because the cook wanted others to feel happy while eating.

”Oh dear! Brother-in-law, don’t compete with me; I’m your little sister-in-law, and I’m my sister’s most important sister.” Lin Xue realized she couldn’t compete with Fu Cheng and switched tactics with the dish she liked almost finished.

As expected, hearing Lin Xue call him brother-in-law, Fu Cheng immediately stopped and pushed the dish towards Lin Xue.

”You eat.”

”Thank you, brother-in-law.” Lin Xue’s eyes sparkled; she smiled at Fu Cheng and looked towards Lin Qiu.

Lin Qiu blushed and playfully glared at Lin Xue, burying her head in her meal.

No one else competed with Lin Xue for the stewed eggplant with beans, and Lin Xue was overjoyed; she suddenly felt she understood how to handle Fu Cheng and would henceforth use the knowledge.

Fu Xiaoxiao chuckled; Lin Xue’s tactic was brilliant.

Winning so skillfully and even getting Fu Cheng to willingly give it up.

After finishing the meal, Lin Xue accompanied Lu Chen in playing with stones, while Lin Qiu took the opportunity to instruct Fu Cheng on what to be mindful of, and Fu Xiaoxiao lazily yawned, suddenly feeling like there was a lack of a lounge chair in the yard.

After lunch, basking in the sun for a while and lying down would certainly be very pleasant and comfortable.

Having changed the bed sheets in Lu Feng’s room, since Fu Cheng would be staying for the night, Fu Xiaoxiao carried the changed sheets outside, and Lin Qiu quickly stepped forward to take them.

”I’m already feeling bad about staying over; let me help with this task.” Lin Qiu looked at Fu Xiaoxiao awkwardly.

Fu Xiaoxiao shook her head. ”No worries, there’s not much to do.”

”Let me do it.” Fu Cheng walked over directly, took the sheets from Fu Xiaoxiao, and began washing them personally.

Watching him work so skillfully was something Fu Xiaoxiao hadn’t expected.

”He’s very capable; he picks things up quickly,” Lin Qiu explained to Fu Xiaoxiao, looking at Fu Cheng washing the sheets.

At that moment, a head popped up from the neighboring yard. Chen Xiu saw Fu Cheng in the yard and widened her eyes. ”Xiao Xiao, why is there a man here?”

Chen Xiu heard a man’s voice next door, debated within herself for some time, and finally decided to take a look, although she believed Fu Xiaoxiao wasn’t a loose woman, but the man’s voice was too clear, there indeed was a man at her house.

”Oh, sister-in-law, let me introduce you. This is my cousin, he’s come specially to see me. These two are Lin Qiu and Lin Xue, my good friends.” Fu Xiaoxiao raised her voice to explain to Chen Xiu, with such a calm demeanor that it made Chen Xiu feel awkward instead.

She knew Fu Xiaoxiao wasn’t that kind of person! Turns out it was her cousin.

”Oh, hello, everyone! I’m the neighbor next door, Chen Xiu.” Chen Xiu greeted everyone.

”Is there something you need, sister-in-law?” asked Fu Xiaoxiao with a light laugh.

”Nothing, nothing, just checking in, carry on with your work.” Chen Xiu quickly waved her hand and withdrew her head.

Lin Qiu and Lin Xue looked at Fu Xiaoxiao, no wonder she had to give Fu Cheng a title; the neighbor just had to poke their head out to see. Without a proper identity, it would definitely lead to misunderstandings.

”Who are you? Why are you here?” At this moment, an indignant voice came from the doorway, and Fu Xiaoxiao looked at it, wasn’t this Wang Lu!
