A '70s Flash Marriage: Raising Cubs, Making Millions

Chapter 98: Chapter 98: She Wants to Leave?

He never knew Fu Xiaoxiao had such thoughts, that she would leave once the two kids grew up?

Lu Feng was really panicking now.

He wanted to spend his life with her, but she had made up her mind from the start to leave in the future.

”When the two kids grow up, can you really bear to leave? Even when you raise two puppies, you’d develop feelings for them, right?” Lin Qiu knew that Fu Xiaoxiao had a great relationship with the two kids. They got along so well, she must have put her heart into it.

Can she really bear to leave just like that?

”I suppose so! When kids grow up they’ll have their own paths to follow, they won’t need me to take care of them forever.” Fu Xiaoxiao smiled, when the kids were about ten or so, they would have their own ideas. By then, without her saying anything, they wouldn’t need her.

Lu Feng was silent, suddenly his leg was tugged, and when he looked down, he saw Lu Chen mimicking him by standing against the wall.

’Mr. Lu, are you doing something bad? You’re being naughty, eavesdropping on Mom and Aunt Qiu.’

Lu Chen accused softly.

Lu Feng copied Fu Xiaoxiao’s action of rubbing his head, and gave him a good ruffle. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

Your mom is thinking of leaving you behind, and you’re still defending her.

”And now? Your idea definitely won’t work! You see Lu Feng every day... do you really have no feelings for him?” Lin Qiu looked at Fu Xiaoxiao and asked earnestly.

Lu Feng held his breath for a moment, waiting nervously for Fu Xiaoxiao’s answer.

”To be honest, I’ve always seen him as just an ol... supervisor.” Fu Xiaoxiao almost said boss, but quickly corrected herself.

”Old supervisor?” Lin Qiu heard it as old supervisor, and thought of Liu Hongjun.

Trying to imagine it, it really was true that there wouldn’t be any feelings.

Seeing Lin Qiu’s misunderstanding, Fu Xiaoxiao was about to explain it wasn’t like that, but it seemed this understanding wasn’t wrong either.

Lu Feng sized himself up, where did he resemble Liu Hongjun at all!

He was clearly much better than Liu Hongjun!

”Just a supervisor! Whatever he says, I just follow. Besides, isn’t he often on assignments? This way at home it’s just me and the two kids,” Fu Xiaoxiao said to Lin Qiu with a smile. ”He gives us allowance, so I and the kids aren’t worried about food or clothing. I just need to take care of Chen Chen, while Xiao Lin has to go to classes during the day. I cook for them every day; isn’t this life comfortable?”

”Indeed... listening to you, it does sound pretty good.” Lin Qiu felt a little tempted too, wondering if she should look for a similar job.

”...” Lu Feng stood outside the door, heartbroken.

He was eager to get home to see her, but didn’t expect that her wish was for him to be out on assignments all the time...

Fu Xiaoxiao sighed lightly. ”He’s a good person, responsible. When he comes home, he helps with house chores, and Lu Lin and Lu Chen say he’s a good dad.”

”Aren’t you going to consider it? A guy like him is a rare find.” Lin Qiu also thought Lu Feng was great, wanting to match them up.

”But I have no confidence, it’s not that feelings... can last a lifetime.” Fu Xiaoxiao had seen too many farewells and reunions. She had been in quite a few relationships, none lasting till the end.

Men’s passion for love is short-lived; before marriage, they make all sorts of promises, but after marriage, they all stand on opposite sides. The experiences of her good friends keep telling her not to believe men’s promises.

It’s not that Fu Xiaoxiao didn’t believe in love. She believed that there truly existed that kind of love that everyone envied, the kind that lasts till the end of life.

But... what she didn’t believe was herself, being able to encounter it.

”... That’s true.” Lin Qiu was also worried, just like Fu Xiaoxiao, she doubted herself.

”Fu Cheng’s heart is all on you, and you’re still afraid?” Fu Xiaoxiao looked at Lin Qiu, thinking she shouldn’t be worried.

”Afraid.” Lin Qiu nodded affirmatively.

”He never let anyone close before; we two pitiful people, taking care of each other, he cared for me, I cared for him, relying on each other.” Lin Qiu looked at Fu Xiaoxiao, recounting her past with Fu Cheng.

”On that back mountain, he protected me, helped me with the chores, I cooked for him, mended his clothes, taught him to speak. Back then, it wasn’t about love, it was just about surviving...” Lin Qiu sighed lightly, that period was the most beautiful part of her life.

If she could, she wanted to stay there.

No need to go home to face a demanding mother-in-law, aggressive husband, or dirty, messy home.

Fu Xiaoxiao could understand, that period was something even Fu Cheng couldn’t forget.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have followed her.

”But everything is different now! He’s a soldier now, someone will teach him everything, teach him how to speak, how to handle things, and I seem a bit unnecessary. I have no education, no skills, not even good looks; I’m not worthy of him anymore.” Lin Qiu looked at Fu Xiaoxiao, the worry and fear in her eyes were so clear.

”What do I have to keep him? I have nothing, do you understand? I have nothing.” Lin Qiu tightly grasped Fu Xiaoxiao’s hand, lost and helpless.

”But when he had nothing, he didn’t dare to keep you!” Fu Xiaoxiao shook her head, on this point, Fu Cheng showed much more determination than Lin Qiu.

”He, all alone in an unfamiliar environment, couldn’t even speak, followed the scent to find me, just wanting to find you.” Fu Xiaoxiao spoke earnestly to Lin Qiu.

”You’re the one who knows him best. He lived on the back mountain for so many years he already developed the habits of a wild animal. For you, he’s willing to change himself, for you, he left the mountains, that familiar place, and for you, bravely joined the army! He comes to you with more sincerity, giving much more effort.” Fu Xiaoxiao’s words struck Lin Qiu’s heart.

Each word was heavy in weight.

”Yes! I’ve been overthinking; he’s already worked so hard to come to me, and I’m still afraid. I shouldn’t be afraid, I’ve lived through such tough times, what am I hesitating for now...” Lin Qiu suddenly stood up, hugging Fu Xiaoxiao in gratitude, her smile vibrant with excitement.

”Thank you, this time I will respond to him, no matter what the future holds, as long as it’s him, I’m willing.” Lin Qiu spoke earnestly.

After saying that, she turned and ran out of Fu Xiaoxiao’s room.

She wanted to find Fu Cheng, to tell him her feelings.

Fu Xiaoxiao watched her back, filled with blessings.

She was resolved, but now her own problem remained.

Fu Xiaoxiao looked towards the doorway, where Lu Feng stood silently watching her, who knows for how long.

”Uh...” Fu Xiaoxiao wanted to say something, Lu Feng, holding clothes in his hands, gave her a smile and turned to do the laundry.

Fu Xiaoxiao was taken aback; had Lu Feng just heard what they talked about? What did his actions mean now?

Lu Feng went to the courtyard, scrubbing his clean clothes, his heart not nearly as calm as his exterior seemed.

He realized that winning Fu Xiaoxiao’s heart would take many more steps towards her...
