A '70s Flash Marriage: Raising Cubs, Making Millions

Chapter 58: Chapter 58: Will the Rebellious Man Obey?

Upon hearing Lu Feng suggest keeping the wolf pup, Lu Lin smiled at him for the first time. ”Thank you, Mr. Lu.”

Fu Xiaoxiao saw Lu Lin happy and chuckled at Lu Feng and Wang Lu. ”Can you guys train wolves?”

”Our unit had a black-backed dog before, but unfortunately, it was blown up by the enemy during a mission.” Wang Lu, recalling the black-backed dog that had fought alongside them, looked sorrowful.

”Where did you find this? It’s quite possible the mother wolf hasn’t gone far.” Lu Feng looked at Lu Lin seriously.

”On the way back, we... followed Niuwa and took the small path home, and halfway through, we heard the pup whining softly.” Lu Lin replied truthfully.

After school, Niuwa led them to a secret base, veering off the original path home, which was where Lu Lin encountered the wolf pup caught in a trap.

”When you take Xiao Lin tomorrow, follow that path and have a look.” Lu Feng instructed Wang Lu.

”Understood.” Wang Lu nodded in agreement.

”Then what can we feed it now?” Fu Xiaoxiao asked Lu Feng.

”Bring it here and let me see.” Lu Feng turned to Lu Lin, who immediately ran out and carefully brought in the wolf pup.

”At this size, it can already eat food.” After checking the pup, Lu Feng nodded. ”The injury is quite severe—it’ll take about a month to heal, and the medication needs to be changed daily.”

”I’ll change the medicine every day!” Lu Lin quickly agreed, taking the pup back from Lu Feng.

Seeing the matter settled, Fu Xiaoxiao turned to leave the room. ”Xiao Lu, come out for dinner soon!”

”What about Mr. Lu?” Wang Lu paused and looked at Lu Feng.

”He still can’t get out of bed; I’ll bring it in for him.” Fu Xiaoxiao said slowly.

Lu Feng watched Fu Xiaoxiao’s departing figure without any objection to her words.

Wang Lu looked at Lu Feng in surprise. Previously, even when injured, he was told not to move or get out of bed. But since he could stand, there was nothing that could keep him in the room for more than a few days.

Now he didn’t seem to have anything wrong, yet he actually listened to his wife saying not to get up?

Fu Xiaoxiao was busy in the kitchen while Lu Lin and Lu Chen were carefully tending to the wolf pup. When the aroma from the kitchen wafted out, the pup, with its keen sense of smell, excitedly tried to climb out of the box towards the kitchen.

Remembering to stew two egg custards for the kids, Fu Xiaoxiao was about to grab a couple of eggs when she suddenly thought of Lu Feng. Perhaps she should stew one for him too?

In the end, Fu Xiaoxiao decided to stew three. The boss was sick; as a diligent worker, how could she neglect the sick boss?

”Dinner time!” Fu Xiaoxiao called out, and Lu Lin and Lu Chen immediately responded loudly.

”Hey!”

When Wang Lu came out, Lu Lin and Lu Chen were washing hands. Seeing Wang Lu, they waved him over. ”Brother Wang Lu, come wash your hands; Mom said to wash hands before eating.”

Lu Chen’s words made Lu Lin pause.

”What did you call her?” Lu Lin looked at Lu Chen in surprise. Did something happen recently that he didn’t know about?

Why did Lu Chen call her mom?

”Mom!” Lu Chen said sheepishly to Lu Lin with a grin, calling her mom meant he recognized her as his mom.

This was the promise he and his brother made—to call someone mom only if they truly wanted that person as their mother.

In just a few days, he had already started calling her, feeling a bit guilty facing Lu Lin.

”...” Lu Lin glanced at Lu Chen before turning away and sitting at the table.

”Oh no, Brother’s angry,” Lu Chen sighed but truthfully admired Fu Xiaoxiao.

Wang Lu listened to the children’s conversation, understanding why people said being a stepmother was tough. No matter how well she treated them, there was still a chance of not being accepted.

After washing hands and sitting at the table, Fu Xiaoxiao served the hot dishes, and Wang Lu quickly went up to help. ”Why don’t we prepare some for Mr. Lu first?”

”No need, I separated his portion while cooking; you just need to eat.” Fu Xiaoxiao chuckled, pointing to the kitchen where Lu Feng’s food was already set aside.

Seeing Fu Xiaoxiao so thoughtful, Wang Lu didn’t say more and sat down smiling.

The braised pork on the table, both in terms of color and appearance, rivaled that of a state-run restaurant. Wang Lu’s eyes lit up, wondering about the taste.

”Here’s yours, be careful it’s hot!” Fu Xiaoxiao brought over a small bowl, placing it in front of Lu Lin and Lu Chen.

”Thank you, Aunt Fu.” Lu Lin nodded at Fu Xiaoxiao.

”Thank you... Mom, Aunt Fu.” Lu Chen wanted to call her mom, but glanced at Lu Lin and changed it to Aunt Fu.

Afraid of angering Fu Xiaoxiao, he looked down, feeling guilty.

Fu Xiaoxiao naturally sensed the tension between Lu Lin and Lu Chen but didn’t mind not being called mom, so it didn’t bother her.

”Eat up! I’ll first take your dad’s food in.” Fu Xiaoxiao turned and carried a tray into Lu Feng’s room.

”Is Aunt Fu mad at me?” Lu Chen asked sadly, poking at his egg custard.

Already calling her mom, suddenly changing to Aunt Fu, surely she’d be upset?

”Eat.” Lu Lin looked at Lu Chen complexly, pursing his lips and eating.

”You guys don’t like her?” Wang Lu was curious why they didn’t call Fu Xiaoxiao mom.

”I do.” Lu Chen answered without hesitation.

Lu Lin softly said, ”I don’t dislike her.”

Not disliking means liking, right?

”I think since she’s Mr. Lu’s wife, she’s your stepmother, and calling her mom wouldn’t be wrong. Plus, she’s not the kind to bully you, why not call her mom?” Wang Lu had seen them reluctant to talk, but since Fu Xiaoxiao arrived, they noticeably became more cheerful, even willing to greet others.

Since they don’t dislike her, why hesitate?

”I...” Lu Lin wanted to say something when he heard Fu Xiaoxiao answering from behind. ”Let them call whatever they want. Whether they call me mom or not, I’ll take care of them.”

Fu Xiaoxiao walked out smiling; she didn’t want to pressure the kids with Wang Lu’s question.

Let them call whatever they want, she won’t force them.

She won’t treat them poorly for not calling her mom.

”Don’t mind such things; there’s no need for pressure. Call me anything you like.” Fu Xiaoxiao gently patted the children’s heads, smiling as she sat down to eat.

Lu Lin and Lu Chen, hearing Fu Xiaoxiao’s words, looked at each other and sadly lowered their heads.

”Xiao Lu, it’s all homemade; see if it suits your taste.” Fu Xiaoxiao said to Wang Lu.

”Sis, this suits me perfectly. Especially this braised pork, it’s even better than in state-run restaurants.” Wang Lu exclaimed after biting into the braised pork, surprised by its delicate taste, without any grease, melting in the mouth with lingering fragrance.
