Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 4222  Venerable Hollow Knight Closes In

”What is this, Fairy Runalise? Are you trying to act smart in front of me?”

A cold voice emerged from the side.

It caused Fairy Runalise to be unable to turn and look at him. She literally froze, thinking he was going to destroy her in one move.

ʼWell, I suppose this is for the best…ʼ

Fairy Runalise heaved a sigh inwardly and turned to look at him.

”You really thought I would just sit around here and do nothing?”

”…”

Davis looked at her with wide eyes. The cold gleam exuding from his sapphire induced a bone-chilling cold in Elder Nonek.

He instantly went quiet when he was about to shout again that the Venerable Knight was waiting for Fairy Runalise.

After what seemed to be a long time but just three whole seconds, Davisʼs expression relaxed. He looked towards the distance as though his gaze pierced through the Quake Fist Sect.

”Itʼs a pity. I thought a Heavenʼs Warrior of all people could be trusted. Turns out that youʼre no different from ordinary people who move against others on a daily basis for the sake of benefits and ideologies. I guess my little sister would no longer be the same person after being brainwashed by you people.”

He shook his head before turning around to leave, ”What a waste of time trying to understand one another.”

”…”

Fairy Runalise frowned, ”We can never understand each other. You wouldnʼt understand the hate I feel just by looking at you.”

Davis stopped. He turned to glance at her with a disappointed expression.

”Makes sense for a heavenʼs slave, but a true Heavenʼs Warrior like the Celestial Transcendent have their own opinions and can even go against the heavens if they wanted to.”

”…!”

Fairy Runalise clenched her fists, ”Of all people, donʼt you dare dictate what a true Heavenʼs Warriors is!”

”Then why have you people dictated that Divergents are evil? Are you even worthy enough to stand at a higher peak and judge us with your brainwashed minds? Can the heavens that donʼt participate in this earthly realm and suffer along with us arbitrarily judge us from the high heavens?”

”…”

Davis shot a cold gaze, ”If you canʼt answer that, you are indeed a heavenʼs slave.”

He turned around and left.

Fairy Runalise clenched her teeth as she glared at him. She couldnʼt understand why she was so angry being called that since being called a heavenʼs slave was supposed to be a compliment to them Heavenʼs Warriors.

It meant that they were faithfully following Heavenʼs Will without caring about benefits.

Which Heavenʼs Warrior wouldnʼt be happy being called that?

However, she didnʼt have time to think about it.

”Lead the way.”

She commanded Elder Nonek and had him lead her to the Venerable Knight.

Elder Nonek nodded gravely.

He couldnʼt understand why the Divine Emperor of Death bothered to kill the two of them right here and right now. However, he knew it wasnʼt his place to ask and took Fairy Runalise there.

A few minutes later, Fairy Runalise arrived at a guest palace.

It was far away from the sect, on the opposite side of their meeting, but it still wasnʼt a place that a peak Autarchʼs soul sense wouldnʼt reach, so she hoped that the Venerable Knight extended his soul sense.

However, if he had extended his soul sense, would he be patiently waiting here?

Fairy Runalise found it confusing. Nonetheless, she stepped inside the guest palace and walked into the hall, whereupon she found the Venerable Hollow Knight clad in a black robe. With his purple hair loosely tied to his back and his face that looked as though it was carved out of a statue, he appeared quite handsome.

”Venerable Hollow Knight~”

She cupped her hands and bowed.

”Please.”

The Venerable Hollow Knight stood up and returned the bow and then gestured for her to be seated.

Fairy Runalise took a breath and approached him before taking her seat opposite him. There was a hot tea already brewed before her on the table, and with his prompt, she took the teacup and began to sip. Instantly, she could feel her body feeling rejuvenated.

It was as though all the frustration she felt before while dealing with the Divine Emperor of Death was gone.

”What a good tea~ I presume Iʼll be needing more of these in the upcoming days.”

Fairy Runalise praised the tea and imagined she would definitely need this if she was going to deal with the Divine Emperor of Death.

The Venerable Hollow Knight blinked with his pitch-black eyes.

”Youʼre quite… straightforward. Not bad for a start. Certainly refreshing…”

He nodded with a smile before he also poured himself tea and drank.

”Yes,” Fairy Runalise appeared prideful, ”I donʼt soften my words, but I think that is also my way of doing things. Regardless, is the grand hunt going well?”

She asked, her gaze becoming more hopeful, wishing for him to realize the strangeness here.

”…”

The Venerable Hollow Knight paused before he kept the tea on the table. He clasped his fingers, appearing solemn.

”Fairy Runalise, I have to apologize for showing here with my avatar. For one, I canʼt come here with my main body, but I presume that isnʼt a good reason to say to a fairy. I hope youʼll forgive me for this slight. As for the grand hunt, I can only say that things are bleak.”

”…?” Fairy Runalise inclined her head.

”The Divine Emperor of Death is nowhere to be found. We have explored a few danger zones and have lost a few Heavenʼs Warriors, but we still havenʼt been able to find him. I fear he has escaped to some other celestial body and is merely playing with us by giving the name of the nine realms. Those Anarchic Divergents never play fair.”

”No…” Fairy Runalise blurted out.

It caused the Venerable Hollow Knight to blink.

”I mean, most Anarchic Divergents donʼt play fair, but I think the Divine Emperor of Death is a man of his word despite being evil. At least, thatʼs what all the information on him says. He has always done the things he would say and didnʼt shy away from doing what he wanted. Therefore, I think he should be hidden in one of the nine realms.”

”…” The Venerable Hollow Knight became expressionless before he nodded.

”Youʼre right. His ʼDivineʼ title is unique among Anarchic Divergents, just like the Divine Saintess Myria five million years ago. She was known to be a kind and benevolent goddess who would heal people without bothering about their status. Whatever these Anarchic Divergents became later on in life, they could be good and honest people back when they were not corrupted by divergence.”

”Is that so…?” Fairy Runalise absentmindedly stated as she looked taken aback.

She couldnʼt help but recall the sight she saw in his mini-realm. It was very peaceful. Even the Quake Fist Sect was rowdy with disciple deaths all day long.

”That should be the case. But to think you had a high opinion of the Divine Emperor of Death. You should not divulge this to other Heavenʼs Warriors as most are not capable of seeing multiple perspectives.”

The Venerable Hollow Knight seemed humored before he took the teacup and took a sip.

”…”

Fairy Runalise narrowed her brows.

She had a high opinion of the Divine Emperor of Death?

She was about to retort but suddenly realized what she had said when she had meant to make the Venerable Hollow Knight realize that the Divine Emperor of Death was in one of these realms and not anywhere else.

Instantly, she couldnʼt help but blush from the humiliation she caused herself.

The Venerable Hollow Knight raised his brows as he saw her ears blush before he smiled lightly.

”Donʼt worry. I wonʼt reveal anything that went on here. Weʼre here to see each otherʼs compatibility, after all.”

”Mhm?”

Fairy Runalise felt like she heard something strange, causing her to incline her head.

”No need to be embarrassed.” The Venerable Hollow Knight shook his head, ”We Heavenʼs Warriors also have lives to live. Serving the Heavens is one thing, but making sure our lives will be meaningful and connected to the future should also be given enough thought. I wonʼt say I understand your concerns, but if you want to pursue me and convince me to take you as my third wife, Iʼm open to hearing your wishes.”

”…”

Fairy Runaliseʼs expression became indifferent.

What was going on here?

She didnʼt call the Venerable Hollow Knight here. She didnʼt ask him to come here. All she did was do a few suspicious actions, like telling her senior to tell her about her leave of absence due to personal reasons to the Venerable Hollow Knight.

She hoped that it would get the Venerable Hollow Knightʼs attention. It was a loophole around the True Soul Contract.

She was going to protect the words she had given the Divine Emperor of Death. After all, she wouldnʼt be exposing anything. Just bringing the Venerable Knight here alone should do the job since he would realize that Heavenʼs Warrior Yubin is missing, or so she mused, but this person really came here to see if she was up for marrying him? And he wanted her to chase him…?
