I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 877, Unable to Find Out Anything

Translator: Silavin

Inside the Restful Night Building of the Flame Dragon Tribe, Lei was sitting in the room with a very serious expression, his face filled with dissatisfaction.

There was no other reason than they had stayed in the Flame Dragon Tribe for two or three days now, yet they still hadn’t discovered anything.

He and another Totem Warrior searched from morning till night every day, and the answers they received were all the same: they didn’t know.

“If this continues, I’m afraid we won’t be able to find out anything,” Ji said helplessly.

He was also a Totem Warrior from the Green Vine Tribe, though his strength was only at the Early Stage.

“I never expected the people of the Flame Dragon Tribe to be so tight-lipped, refusing to reveal anything,” Lei had never anticipated this at all.

He had originally thought this task would be very simple, but in the end, he had been too naive.

“Those people don’t seem to be pretending. Looking at their expressions, they genuinely seem not to know,” Ji waved his hand dismissively.

The two of them had gone to ask questions separately. He had questioned mostly the youths.

Because he thought they would know more than the elderly. After all, he felt that so many good products couldn’t possibly have been thought up by those old people.

“But I feel like they seem to know everything, they just look particularly cunning,” Lei said through gritted teeth with frustration.

The people he mainly questioned were middle-aged and elderly people. His thinking was different from Ji’s.

He always felt that certain matters would only be known to some of the Tribe’s elders, and young people wouldn’t have much qualification to know about certain things.

“Should we continue investigating? We’ve already been here for two or three days,” Ji asked.

He felt there seemed to be no hope. If there was hope, they would have been able to find out something by now.

Instead of catching people one by one from morning to night like now, only to receive either head shakes or strange looks in response.

“Never mind, let’s try asking again today. I refuse to believe that truly no one knows,” Lei was somewhat unwilling to give up.

Originally, he had wanted to follow the Tribe’s people out to see who they were trading with.

But before they could follow them out, they were discovered. Moreover, they heard that those people were only going into the forest.

There was no indication they were going to other Tribes. Furthermore, they weren’t carrying any dried meat or goods, making it even less likely they were going to exchange goods with others.

“Alright, then we can only try asking around. What should we do if Ah Liv asks about it?” Ji still showed considerable respect for the Shaman’s Daughter.

“Don’t worry too much about her. This mission was also assigned by the Shaman. Even if she blames us, the Shaman will protect us,” Lei couldn’t be bothered about that.

What he most wanted to do now was complete the task assigned by the Shaman. He didn’t have much time to care about the Young Mistress’; fragile feelings.

“Fine, let’s still split up to search. Perhaps the chances of finding out something will be greater,” Ji suggested.

“Let’s do as you say, but you must be careful. Apart from not letting Ah Liv know, most importantly, don’t let the people of the Flame Dragon Tribe find out,” Lei instructed.

After all, this wasn’t exactly an honourable matter. Trying to find out another Tribe’s secrets certainly couldn’t be discovered.

Otherwise, if discovered, who knew how they would be dealt with. Even if they were dealt with by the Flame Dragon Tribe, the Green Vine Tribe couldn’t say anything.

Because this was an unwritten rule of the Primitive Era, if one tried to find out another Tribe’s secrets and were discovered, they could not blame that Tribe for how they dealt were dealt with once caught.

“I’m off. I’ll go ask around at the eating places. You’re still in charge of the Central Market,” Ji turned and left immediately.

Because he had no confidence in dealing with the people at the Central Market, and he had only awakened as a Totem Warrior this year. In all aspects, he was certainly inferior to Lei.

*Step step step…*

At the same time, in another room, Yini and Ci were similarly discussing matters.

They weren’t being so blatant about it, only asking tentatively.

Moreover, they would intentionally or unintentionally lay a very long groundwork of questions before finally getting to the main point.

Compared to the people from the Green Vine Tribe, they were relatively more clever, knowing this wouldn’t be too conspicuous.

But even so, they still couldn’t get the answers they wanted. The responses they received were almost all the same three words: ‘I don’t know’.

This left the two young ladies in distress, momentarily uncertain how to proceed.

They had entered the Flame Dragon Tribe after the Green Vine Tribe, and had similarly stayed in the Tribe for several days now.

There were only about ten days left until the arrival of the rainy season. Time was running out for them.

They only had three or four days at most, as they still needed to rush back to prepare for the arrival of the rainy season.

“Why don’t we just give up? We really can’t get any answers,” Yini was almost ready to give up.

The main issue was that the sense of defeat each day was too deep. She had originally thought they could find out even a tiny bit of news, but in the end, they couldn’t even obtain news the size of a fingernail.

“This is a mission your Father assigned. Are you going to go back directly without completing this mission?” Ci immediately shook her head.

She didn’t want to leave now. Actually, she had a bit of a selfish motive. She wanted to see Lu Zi more.

However, these past few days had mostly been spent busy with investigative matters, and Lu Zi had classes every day, so opportunities to meet were very few.

“I don’t want to go back just like this either, but there isn’t much time left, and we still can’t find out anything,” Yini rolled her eyes helplessly.

She was beginning to suspect whether the people of the Flame Dragon Tribe truly didn’t know, or whether they were all in collusion.

“Anyway, we still have a few days. Let’s try asking around some more. If it really doesn’t work, then we’ll go back and report,” Ci advised.

She felt that as long as things hadn’t reached the final moment, they shouldn’t give up. After all, they had already made the effort. If it really didn’t work out, there was nothing they could do.

“Alright then. After we eat lunch, let’s continue investigating. I wonder if they’ll leave the Tribe today,” Yini stood up, tidying her Animal Hide clothing.

Like the Green Vine Tribe, she wanted to see if the other party would exchange with other Tribes.

But she discovered that the people at the Central Market always minded their own business, never getting particularly close to anyone from other Tribes, and never having any interactions with any particular Tribe.

“Good, let’s go eat barbecue then. That barbecue is really too delicious,” Ci’s eyes immediately shone with brilliance.

“No, no, no. We just ate that barbecue yesterday. Today we should go eat those noodles.” Yini felt her mouth was already watering.

They had been completely won over by the Flame Dragon Tribe’s cuisine. Of course, they also wanted to investigate the secrets of the food.

But unfortunately, they had no way to get close to the kitchen. It wasn’t that people from other Tribes hadn’t tried to forcibly approach the kitchen.

The outcomes were either having their legs broken or being thrown out of the Tribe to feed the Ferocious Beasts. They had seen this with their own eyes and were afraid in their hearts.

“Either is fine, either is fine,” Ci was happy with any food from the Flame Dragon Tribe.

The two couldn’t be bothered to tidy up their things. They stood up, opened the door, and left the Restful Night Building.
