I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 862, Raise More

Su Bai calculated the days until the rainy season’s arrival, discovering that only just over ten days remained.

He put down his freshly brewed tea and asked, “Xiao Yu, how is the wheat in the forest farmland growing?”

“Shaman, in another day or two it can be harvested. All the wheat has already turned golden.” Yu Ying stopped her work of sewing linen clothing, ran over and continued, “I went to look yesterday. Every single wheat stalk is particularly plump, not at all inferior to what we planted outside the Tribe.”

“Then hurry up and harvest it. After harvesting, continue sowing the next batch.” Su Bai instructed.

Of course the wheat was growing well, because the soil was extremely fertile. Once the soil becomes fertile, any crops would grow quickly.

That piece of land had been fertilised in advance, and after planting the wheat, fertiliser had continued to be applied. The promising growth was within expectations.

Those fertilisers were the excrement from the animals raised in the Tribe, collected daily by dedicated people. Afterwards, it was composted into fertiliser and transported to the farmland. This made seeds that had already been treated with Growth Acceleration Skill grow even faster.

“Understood, Shaman. After harvesting this batch of wheat, should we also apply some fertiliser as usual?” Yu Ying asked curiously.

“The fertiliser in the soil has been absorbed by the previous batch of wheat, so we still need to apply fertiliser.” Su Bai nodded.

“Shaman, if we apply fertiliser to that wheat field now, we won’t have any to use when the rainy season comes.” Yu Ying said with difficulty.

The animals raised in the Tribe were limited after all.  The fertiliser these animals could produce daily was also limited, although some was generated every day.

But the amount that eventually became fertiliser was not much, yet it still had to fertilise the crops in many fields.

Now not only did the edible crops need fertilising, but those flower fields also needed fertilising.

Moreover, during the rainy season it would rain heavily continuously. The excrement those animals produced daily could be washed away with the rainwater.

Last year’s rainy season had been done this way. It also ensured the hygiene in those pens.

“It doesn’t matter. Just apply fertiliser as usual. This year during the rainy season, save all the excrement from the cattle, sheep and horses.” Su Bai furrowed his brow, thinking, then continued, “Afterwards we’ll set up a special fertiliser workshop, specifically for composting fertiliser.”

Since coming to this Primitive Era, to implement the farming plan, fertiliser was indispensable.

Even though those seeds had been treated with Growth Acceleration Skill, they were still crops after all. The demand for fertiliser still existed.

“Fertiliser workshop? Shaman, does composting fertiliser also require a special workshop? Won’t that waste too much manpower?” Yu Ying worried.

She more or less knew the Tribe currently had a manpower shortage problem. If they set up another workshop now, they’d inevitably need to recruit some people to this workshop. This would also waste some personnel.

“It’s just a fertiliser workshop. It only needs a few people. The workshop won’t need that many people initially, so don’t worry.” Su Bai took a sip of tea, continuing, “Moreover, the fertiliser workshop is extremely important, very necessary for our Tribe’s development.”

“True. Food is very important to us. Shaman, where should the fertiliser workshop be set up?” Yu Ying asked curiously.

“Just set it up directly next to where the animals are penned. That way transporting their excrement over won’t be too troublesome, and it won’t make the surrounding environment smell as well.” Su Bai explained.

“I understand. I’ll go handle this matter later.” Yu Ying nodded repeatedly.

“Just build a simple wooden hut. The hut’s area doesn’t need to be particularly large. After all, it’s just for composting fertiliser.”

Su Bai took out paper and pen to draw, saying as he drew, “Probably this size will do. It just needs to be able to store tools and a certain amount of fertiliser.”

He quickly sketched a simple wooden hut in a few strokes, along with some structural diagrams of the hut’s interior.

Having had drawing skills before transmigrating, plus after taking over the Flame Dragon Tribe, Su Bai had been constantly drawing. Recently, the Tribe’s people could only understand drawings, so his basic skills had greatly improved.

Drawing such a simple wooden hut diagram didn’t require much time at all. Just a few fine strokes were good enough.

“Understood. I’ll have the carpenters arrange for someone to make it.” Yu Ying glanced at the paper and put it away.

Previously, the Tribe’s wooden huts had been made by the carpenters. However, they could only give opinions. The main work still relied on the Warriors.

Who told the Warriors to have greater strength? They could save the effort of digging foundations, directly stabbing wooden stakes into the ground.

“It seems we need to find a way to raise more animals. Only then can we get more fertiliser.” Su Bai furrowed his brow.

Relying solely on the cattle, sheep and horses the Tribe currently raised wasn’t enough. Who told these cattle, sheep and horses to be so few in number?

“Shaman, what else can we raise in our Tribe?” Yu Ying asked curiously.

“Of course we can. There are still very many things our Tribe can raise.” Su Bai began taking out paper and pen to continue drawing.

He had actually long wanted to raise more animals in the Tribe. However, at the time the Tribe was busy constructing the Central Market, as well as producing ceramics, linen and paper. Besides that, they were busy with very many other things. There hadn’t been spare time to capture more animals to raise.

If not for the insufficient fertiliser issue this time, Su Bai might have pushed this matter back further.

“Shaman, what are you drawing?” Yu Ying curiously brought her face closer.

“I’m drawing some wild chickens, wild rabbits, as well as some wild ducks, wild geese and similar animals. All of these can be raised for eating.” Su Bai continued drawing without even raising his head.

These animals were also mostly what farmers on Earth would raise at home. Besides being easy to raise, these animals also had other uses.

For instance, wild chickens, wild ducks and wild geese could lay eggs, and the eggs they laid also had great uses.

Wild rabbits’ fur could be kept to make small gloves or small children’s boots, which would also be good.

“Shaman, doesn’t our Tribe already raise some wild chickens? We can indeed catch some more.” Yu Ying began her self-questioning and answering mode.

Yu Ying also felt the Tribe’s current wild chickens were a bit few. They’d be eaten up by the Tribe’s people in no time.

Sometimes she worried those wild chicken eggs weren’t enough. Sometimes when she wanted to save more to make noodles, she couldn’t.

“Yes, we need to catch more to raise first, so we can have fresh meat to eat during the snow season.” Su Bai smiled faintly.

“Understood.” Yu Ying swished her pink fox tail.
