I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 786, Yan Jiao’s Disappointment

Yan Jiao needed time to understand why hunting expeditions would suddenly become unnecessary.

“What’s our Central Market’s current situation? Do people continuously arrive at our Flame Dragon Tribe each day?” Su Bai inquired.

He intended to employ the approach of progressively questioning the Chieftain to make him understand.

By fragmenting the issue into sequential questions, he hoped that the Chieftain would realise that hunting was logically no longer necessary.

“Of course. The Central Market is very popular, with numerous people from other Tribes arriving each day,” Yan Jiao stated with certainty.

However, he did not understand the relevance of this question. What connection was there between ceasing hunting expeditions and the Central Market?

“Are our Flame Dragon Tribe’s goods popular? Are we getting a lot of goods each day?” Su Bai posed two consecutive questions.

“Shaman, what relationship does this have with stopping hunting expeditions?” Yan Jiao couldn’t help asking.

His tone remained extremely respectful, without any trace of transgression. He was simply curious.

“Answer first. Later, you’ll naturally understand my intentions.” Su Bai replied gently.

He slowly set down his paper and pen, taking nearby snacks to eat.

These snacks were prepared yesterday, a type of bread made from wheat flour. The small breads contained a sour berry filling.

They could be stored for two or three days, serving as casual snacks during leisure time.

“Many people visit the Central Market daily. Using the Shaman’s terminology, our goods are in extremely high demand,” Yan Jiao stated with some confusion.

“You accompanied me to the cellar previously. You’re aware of the substantial food supplies stored there.”

Su Bai brushed food residue from his hands, continuing, “What activity are we currently doing in the forest?”

“The cellar contains abundant food supplies. In the forest, the Shaman plans to develop more farmland,” Yan Jiao stated deliberately.

Although he did not understand the question’s purpose, he took and answered each question seriously.

“How long could the cellar’s food supplies sustain our Tribe’s population?” Su Bai continued.

“We seem to be completely stocked. Based on the current distribution rate, approximately twenty days’ worth of the whole Tribe.” Yan Jiao calculated.

After completing his calculations, his expression gradually brightened. Not that he fully understood.

Simply that the transformation had been too profound, that he had not realised it. Last year, the Flame Dragon Tribe could not even feed everyone adequately. Food storage was unthinkable. Current storage providing twenty days’ supply seemed impossible to imagine.

Moreover, the Tribe’s population had increased substantially, effectively doubling. Maintaining food reserves under such circumstances naturally brought about surprise once realised.

“The twenty days’ supply. That is only our current storage. Remember. We have plots of farmland at the Tribe’s entrance.” Su Bai slowly lifted his teacup.

He had explained this thoroughly, hoping the Chieftain would comprehend his intentions.

“Shaman!” Yan Jiao suddenly exclaimed.

His expression registered extraordinary shock, as though suddenly understanding everything.

“Do you believe our Tribe’s Warriors still need to undertake dangerous hunting expeditions?” Su Bai took a sip of tea while asking.

“Unnecessary, it is truly unnecessary,” Yan Jiao shook his head without hesitation, then froze again, asking, “But Shaman, isn’t this our Tribe’s tradition?”

While the logic indicated hunting expeditions were no longer necessary, they represented traditions passed down through the generations.

“I naturally understand this is a tradition of the Tribe. Sending Warrior Trainees to the Hunting Ground for training is also a tradition.”

Su Bai set down his teacup, continuing earnestly, “But, when we no longer require hunting expeditions, why take such unnecessary risks? What’s more, Warrior Trainees can train effectively within the Tribe.”

He understood the Chieftain’s concerns. Undoubtedly, Yan Jiao worried that under his leadership as Chieftain, Tribe’s traditions might be abandoned.

“I respect the Shaman’s decision. But, the Tribe’s Warriors may not readily accept this.” Yan Jiao contemplated.

He considered this matter seriously, then looked back through the windows at the Tribe, discovering the Flame Dragon Tribe had transformed dramatically.

The Flame Dragon Tribe had no precedent for operating a Central Market, nor precedent for inhabiting cement houses.

Since the Tribe’s food supplies could achieve self-sufficiency without requiring them to hunt…

This change was not necessarily bad. Since transformation had already occurred, they should try to accept it.

“What’s our Tribe’s current training situation?” Su Bai inquired.

“Whether Totem Warriors or Warrior Trainees, daily training schedules are extremely intense. Nearly everyone is exhausted by the end of the day.” Yan Jiao immediately responded.

As Chieftain, he naturally monitored numerous matters, not merely food distribution.

He also oversaw Warrior training, daily labour activities, and countless other responsibilities. Essentially occupied from dawn to dusk.

“Considering their training is already exhausting, do you believe they’ll object to stopping Hunting Ground expeditions?” Su Bai asked.

“Shaman, what you say makes sense. But this has been long-standing practice. Sudden stopping will require time for them to adjust.” Yan Jiao stated helplessly.

He felt somewhat disappointed internally. Truthfully, he rather enjoyed hunting.

“This is not too difficult. I’ll still maintain the tradition, so you don’t need to feel too disappointed.” Su Bai smiled.

Yan Jiao froze, his expression revealing confusion, “Shaman, didn’t you just say we should stop?”

“I’m talking about cancelling daily hunting expeditions. Hunting Ground expeditions will still continue.” Su Bai’s black eyes blinked as he continued, “Meaning we are just changing how often we do it. In short, we’ll only do Hunting Ground expeditions once a year.”

He actually appreciated the Primitive Era’s hunting traditions. While maintaining the Tribe’s development, such traditions should not be completely abandoned.

Annual Hunting Ground expeditions could serve as a major festival. This would make for an event the entire Tribe could celebrate together.

“Shaman, excellent! This is an excellent idea!” Yan Jiao exclaimed with particular excitement.

“Any other concerns?” Su Bai asked.
