I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 763, Mistaken Instructions?

Su Bai sat at his position organising matters concerning the main road. He needed to first sketch out the design plans.

“Shaman, I have already passed down your orders. Everyone responded excitedly.” Yu Ying walked back in from outside.

After receiving the order, she had run off to relay it. Previously, this work had always been done by Sha Lan. So, at the start she was a bit unfamiliar with it, but very quickly got the hang of it.

After all, it was just passing on a message. With the added authority of being the Shaman Priestess, the Tribe’s people gathered at once.

“How many people responded this time?” Su Bai asked.

Yu Ying’s pink eyes narrowed slightly. After a good while, she said, “Over 200 people. I counted them.”

The reason she hesitated before answering was because she was recalling what number she had counted.

Yu Ying’s memory wasn’t as good as Sha Lan’s. The matters she had to attend to daily were also rather numerous, so her memory was even more obviously lacking.

“Over 200 people? That number is fine. First, have them clear away all the weeds outside the Tribe.” Su Bai set down his drawing pen and continued, “The weeds and trees along the entire road leading to the forest also need to be cleared. Only then can the main road be smoothly laid through.”

This was also the most important point in laying the main road. If the obstacles along the road weren’t cleared away, laying the main road would also become an obstruction.

“I already mentioned this. When you said you wanted to lay a main road to the farmland, I thought of this point.”

Yu Ying placed both hands behind her back, her body swaying slowly as she said happily, “I hope I can share some of your worries.”

Yu Ying was also very clever. She knew that the road from the Tribe to the farmland had obstacles all along it. Things like weeds and stones were manageable. Weeds could be cleared very quickly, and moving stones wouldn’t take much time either. What would take more time were the trees along the way. Felling those tall trees one by one would be quite time-consuming.

After all, there wasn’t much time left until the rainy season. There were only about 60 days. So, they definitely needed people to start promptly clearing those obstacles.

“Well done. Your considerations are very thorough.” Su Bai was very satisfied. He hadn’t expected Yu Ying to think of this aspect.

When he had originally sent Yu Ying to gather the Tribe’s people, he had wanted to mention this point. However, she had left too quickly.

Moreover, he hadn’t thought of it immediately himself, so he figured it would be fine to first gather everyone before instructing them on what to do.

“Shaman, they’ve already started clearing from the Tribe entrance. However, since it’s getting late today, they can probably only clear up to the forest’s edge.” Yu Ying turned her head to look at the weather outside.

The Flame Dragon Tribe was also some distance from the forest. If one were simply walking, it would take three to four hours.

Although it was only midday now, there were quite a few large stones and weeds along the way. Clearing them would still take some time.

Of course, those short weeds didn’t need attention. Once the grass wood ash cement was laid over them, they wouldn’t be visible. The large stones, however, required some care.

“That’s fine. I hadn’t expected to start work today anyway. Since we can start today, that’s even better.”

Su Bai was quite satisfied. He continued, “Arrange one team of people to clear. Have another team of people start laying the main road.”

He wanted to move this quickly because he hoped to complete that farmland before this year ended.

Moreover, his plan was very ambitious. With the Flame Dragon Tribe as the centre, all the surrounding space would need to be incorporated into his future large-scale farming plan.

In other words, he didn’t just want to establish a city now. He wanted to establish a kingdom!

The current Flame Dragon Tribe near the river would become the kingdom’s capital in the future, with cities gradually developing in the surrounding areas.

However, before that, the Flame Dragon Tribe’s granary still needed to be completed first. If food matters weren’t sorted out, there would be no point in talking about establishing a kingdom.

“Understood. I’ll continue gathering some of the Tribe’s people without work to do the labour. I’m certain they’ll be willing.” Yu Ying continued.

Since she had spoken about this matter rather hastily today, only about 200 people had rushed over.

Just after Yu Ying finished explaining the work and the compensation, those 200-odd people had almost no hesitation whatsoever.

Everyone signed up wanting to do this work. Not a single person who heard about it on site left. All of them registered.

Yu Ying figured that tomorrow, once everyone gradually learned of this news, more and more people would successively join.

*Knock knock knock…*

A series of knocking sounds rang out. Yan Jiao waited respectfully outside, his facial expression very anxious.

*Creak!*

After receiving permission, Yan Jiao pushed the door open and entered, asking anxiously, “Shaman, I heard you’ve gathered people to construct a road?”

“I originally wanted to discuss it with you. However, time was rather tight, so I had Xiao Yu handle it first.” Su Bai explained.

As the Flame Dragon Tribe’s Chieftain, Yan Jiao naturally had the right to know about these matters. However, Su Bai had wanted to quickly implement this matter first, then send someone to inform the Chieftain afterwards.

“Shaman, I don’t know why you want to build this road out there. Building this road won’t help our Tribe.” Yan Jiao asked curiously.

The reason he had rushed over was to see how exactly the Shaman had arranged things. In any case, he couldn’t figure it out himself.

“You know about my plans to construct a granary in the forest. This road is to better access the farmland.”

Su Bai took a sip of tea and continued, “Not only that, it can also lay the groundwork for our Tribe’s development.”

He finally understood the reason for the other’s anxiety. At first he had been puzzled why the other was so tense.

It turned out he was worried the Tribe’s people were doing useless work, and even more worried that the Shaman would be gossiped about by the Tribe’s people.

“So that’s how it is. I was worried about nothing.” Yan Jiao breathed a sigh of relief.

At first he had wondered if this decision was a mistake. After all, cement main roads had only been laid within the Tribe. Now they were going to lay one outside. He had to come over and ask about it.

“Rest assured, every arrangement I make is for the good of the Tribe’s development.” Su Bai reassured him.

However, he could also clearly sense the Chieftain’s change. At the start there had been distrust, worry, and doubt. Now it has become unconditional trust and support.

This change was very obvious. Not just the Chieftain, many people in the Tribe had also undergone this change.

“Now that I know, I’m not worried anymore.” Yan Jiao laughed heartily.
