I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 760, High Returns

*Pitter patter…*

Light drizzle began falling from the sky. The Flame Dragon Tribe was suddenly hidden within the rain and mist.

Although the raindrops were not very large, they gathered together forming a curtain that made it difficult to see.

“Shaman, it’s started raining outside again.” Yu Ying pressed her hands against the glass, looking outside.

The Flame Dragon Tribe had been experiencing rather frequent rain during this period. It had also often rained the previous two days.

However, the rainfall had not been very heavy. The duration of the rain also did not last very long.

“This kind of light rain is also good. They can help the crops grow.” Su Bai also turned his head to look out the window.

“Shaman, will those cement houses be alright?” Yu Ying was rather worried about the cement houses under construction.

“Don’t worry. If the cement gets moist from rainwater, it will become even tougher. Well, as long as it had not just been applied.” Su Bai explained.

It was the same on Earth. After the cement on houses dried, there would be people taking water hoses to spray water on top. This was the normal process for hardening cement.

“So that’s how it is.” Yu Ying nodded repeatedly.

Su Bai smiled slightly and lowered his head to continue busying himself with his own matters. Recently, he had been considering the Tribe’s development.

Matters regarding clothing and the granary had all been arranged. Next was the Tribe’s transportation problem.

Ever since going to see that clearing two days ago, he had begun harbouring the idea of laying down a road from the Tribe all the way to the new farmland. This way, the people of the Tribe could save quite a bit of time going back and forth between the new farmland and the Tribe.

“Shaman, is what you’re drawing the Tribe and the forest?” Yu Ying tilted her head, looking at the blueprint on the table.

“Yes. This wide road is the road leading to the farmland.” Su Bai explained.

His drawing was not particularly detailed. It was rough and abstract, only with a spacious road between the Tribe and the forest.

“Shaman, are you starting to execute what you mentioned two days ago right away?” Yu Ying’s pink eyes widened.

Yu Ying had heard the Shaman mention this matter two days ago. That is to say, sooner or later, a road would be built extending from the Tribe to the outside.

“Yes. Anyway, there are now spare hands available in the Tribe. Rather than letting them be idle with nothing to do, it’s better to arrange for them to do something.” Su Bai nodded.

Because half of the planned cement houses have been built, and because space was limited, not everyone could work on construction.

Most worked on constructing houses. Places like workshops required some talent before one could work there. The Tribe had plenty of people who only had brute strength and no other talents. They could not possibly be left without work, could they?

Moreover, the Flame Dragon Tribe’s rule was that only those who worked would have food to eat and a place to live. Since they had no work, they definitely could not be given food for nothing.

Just two days ago, he had thought about laying down a road, and it was not yet the rainy season.

“But this might take a lot of time. Laying a road directly from here into the forest should be very difficult to achieve.” Yu Ying turned her head to look towards the forest again.

That forest was far too large, and dangers were hidden everywhere. It truly wasn’t a simple task.

“Even though it’s very difficult to achieve, we must still try. This is also for the good of the Tribe’s development.” Su Bai raised his head.

He had naturally considered this aspect as well. However, for someone with a farming plan like him, this was not any obstacle.

These obstacles would only make him more resilient through setbacks. Instead, they added some challenge and an even greater desire to conquer.

“Shaman, if that’s the case, should we arrange for Warriors to go together with those people?” Yu Ying kept blinking her pink eyes.

“Of course. Otherwise, if they build into the forest and Ferocious Beasts appear, they won’t know what to do.” Su Bai nodded.

Yu Ying swished her pink fox tail. Supporting her cheeks with both hands, she said seriously, “Shaman, assign this task to me. I can prepare the needed people right now.”

Yu Ying was thinking that since Sha Lan was not around anyway, as a Shaman Priestess, she definitely needed to arrange these matters.

Although she was not very skilled at it, she had to try. Because besides being a Shaman Priestess, Sha Lan was also a Totem Warrior.

She often had to go out on missions. Once Sha Lan went out on a mission, these matters would definitely fall to her.

“First, call all the males who currently have no work to assemble. Tell them there’s a rather difficult job for them to do.”

Su Bai took a sip of tea and continued, “This job is more dangerous, but the returns are also particularly high. Ask them if they’re willing.”

He still wanted work to be voluntary. He did not want to forcibly use his authority to compel those people to work.

One must know that where there was oppression, there would be resistance. He did not want to become a tyrant.

“Yes. Should I tell them clearly what the work is?” Yu Ying asked innocently.

“Tell them. Just say it’s the same as the Tribe’s road construction work, except this road is being built outwards.” Su Bai said lightly.

There was nothing worth concealing about this matter anyway. They definitely needed to know what their work entailed. This was what truly meant letting them choose for themselves.

“Understood. After I finish making you lunch, I’ll go announce this.” Yu Ying nodded.

“The more people, the better, because this road must be built as quickly as possible. We only have around 60 days.” Su Bai instructed.

He did not know whether the 60 or so days would be enough time to build this road. But he still wanted to try his best.

If they could build this road before the rainy season arrived, that would be for the best. If not, it wouldn’t have much impact either.

“Shaman, if they ask what the high returns are, what should I say?” Yu Ying asked particularly seriously.

Yu Ying still wanted to understand things clearly, lest those people ask and she couldn’t answer.

“Anyone who participates in building this road will receive double the meat they were getting before.” Su Bai furrowed his brow in thought and continued, “Give each person a set of linen as well.”

“With such good conditions, they’ll definitely be tempted.” Yu Ying was shocked by these high returns.

This was indeed amazing compensation. One must know that previously, the daily reward was just three meals a day.
