I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 740, Paying the Price for Arrogance

The following day, Su Bai awoke and performed his customary system check-in.

Su Bai examined the military knife, murmuring, “I did not anticipate obtaining another military knife.”

This represented the fourth blade the System had provided. The first combat knife went directly to Ye Jiu.

The second, the military knife, was assigned to Yan Hua, the third to Sha Lan. Now unexpectedly, a fourth had appeared.

“I shall keep this for now. Perhaps today’s inspection of the soldiers will reveal someone exceptional?” Su Bai continued his self-directed commentary.

He considered awarding this military knife as recognition should there be someone outstanding.

Military knives represented supremely advanced weaponry in this era. They were exceptional in both material composition and appearance.

Su Bai rose, changed clothing, consumed breakfast, then commenced the day’s various responsibilities.

Soldier training had not yet begun. So, there was no rush to leave so early.

After completing today’s administrative matters, he would observe the soldiers’ training at his leisure.

“Shaman, you obtained another blade?” Yu Ying curiously asked.

Yu Ying was naturally curious whenever the Shaman obtained another novel item. Beyond questioning their origin, she wondered why they all appeared so exceptional. They were unlike anything a craftsman could produce.

“Oh, I made this last night,” Su Bai could only provide such an explanation.

He could not reveal it was given by the System. To him, this was a secret he would much prefer no one else knew about.

“I see. Even at night, you are working so hard.” Yu Ying expressed considerable concern for his wellbeing. She did not doubt his words for a second, as her belief in him was unquestionable.

“Don’t worry. I rested really well last night.” Su Bai replied with a dismissive smile.

Time progressed from morning’s refreshing atmosphere through afternoon’s intense heat, ultimately reaching dusk.

Su Bai departed the Yong’an Building with Yu Ying, intending to observe the soldiers’ training.

The rhythmic sound of footsteps accompanied their carriage journey to the spacious training ground, where soldiers continued weighted marching exercises.

Despite perspiring enough to thoroughly saturate their Animal Hide clothing, the soldiers demonstrated no intention of pausing to wipe away their sweat.

Every one of them showed maximum dedication, resembling competitive racing where none wished to finish last.

Observing Su Bai’s arrival, Yan Hua immediately ran from the training ground, calling out, “Shaman, you have finally arrived.”

Following the completion of her own training, Yan Hua had started the soldiers’ training, continuously glancing towards the Yong’an Building during this period.

She wondered when the Shaman might appear, eagerly anticipating his arrival.

She would not admit to her personal desire to see the Shaman, instead consistently claiming the soldiers’ anticipated his presence.

“Yeah. How is the training going?” Su Bai enquired.

Though standing at a considerable distance, he could already smell the odour from their sweat.

Today’s training intensity was evident, confirmed by the numerous deep footprints across the training ground.

“They trained with a lot more vigour today. They also navigated every obstacle effortlessly.” Yan Hua immediately reported.

“It appears the Shaman’s second set of training needs to be further intensified.” Sha Lan remarked with a covered smile.

This enhanced training set initially challenged the soldiers somewhat.

However, after several days of practice, they adapted. Now they managed with considerable ease.

Their current performance resembled how they would do in the first training set, perhaps even surpassing it.

“I noticed. Everyone here has really become truly capable. The difficulty does need to be increased.” Su Bai confirmed with a satisfied nod.

This difficulty in training would challenge most individuals on Earth. So, these soldiers already proved to be truly exceptional.

“That’s good. They also eagerly anticipate for the training to be harder.” Yan Hua responded with joy.

Otherwise, recent days had featured continuous complaints from the soldiers, claiming current training intensity proved too little.

Their current confident demeanour contrasted sharply with their attitudes from when they first started.

Even when the second training set was first implemented, the soldiers bitterly complained.

Each component was exceptionally challenging. Completing the whole thing left them completely exhausted.

“That’s good. Has anyone withdrawn midway during training?” Su Bai enquired.

He wished to see whether these individuals had persisted throughout.

Yan Hua shook her head decisively, stating earnestly. “They have all persisted from the start until now. Not a single individual has withdrawn.”

“I found this surprising as well. Their determination is really praiseworthy.” Sha Lan confirmed with a nod.

Both had maintained modest expectations initially, hoping perhaps ten might ultimately remain. Yet since selection to now, not a single individual has withdrawn.

“Oh? Great.” Su Bai acknowledged with a satisfied nod, continuing, “In that case, I shall observe how long they can continue to persist.”

He had already conceptualised even harder training sets. He was now determined to make these soldiers pay the price for today’s arrogant confidence.

“Shaman, after seeing today’s training, do you see any areas that need improving?” Yan Hua curiously asked.

“Provided they train with full dedication, no changes are necessary.” Su Bai replied with a smile.

Dedication was the optimal path to success. He already anticipated these soldiers’ future achievements with considerable interest.
