I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 731, Finding One’s Way Back

Co Co finished her breakfast and began wandering around the Sea Fish Tribe, something she did every day.

Although sometimes she did not know what she was looking at, she still made it a fixed daily routine.

Perhaps it was because the Sea Fish Tribe had been suddenly lost and then been regained, making her feel overly excited.

Afraid that the Sea Fish Tribe might disappear again, she would make time every day to inspect the entire Tribe.

“Why do some people in the Tribe have work while others don’t?” Ji An walked over from behind.

Although he was an Elder of the Sea Fish Tribe, recently his work had been all sorts of miscellaneous tasks.

Most people still had no work, and the food they could obtain was naturally very limited.

The Elders of the Sea Fish Tribe naturally sent him to ask this question.

Because some people desperately wanted to work. Seeing those who worked receive so much food afterwards, others were naturally very tempted by this.

“These are all arranged by the Shaman. Some people are suitable for certain tasks while others aren’t. It’s all been arranged in advance.” Co Co explained.

Co Co knew what he was talking about, essentially the matter concerning salt drying by the sea.

Not everyone knew how to dry salt, and even more so, not everyone could go and dry salt.

Those arranged to dry salt could naturally obtain a great deal of food each day, something many people could not compare to.

“Then why can some people do it? We also want to eat more meat each day. It’s not like we are not willing to work.” Ji An asked, puzzled.

He noticed that almost everyone who could work were people from the former Sea Fish Tribe. Since they were selecting people from the Sea Fish Tribe anyway, why couldn’t the remaining Sea Fish Tribe members do this work? If Sea Insect Tribe people couldn’t do it, that would at least be understandable.

“You need to cool your temperament. You are all too impulsive. This is an extremely important task. The Shaman and Chieftain have their own considerations.” Co Co explained.

She knew that no matter what she said now, the other party would find it hard to accept. In any case, the salt drying work was really not something everyone could do.

“I understand. I also know you’re in a difficult position right now, but I need to give our people an explanation. So do understand.” Ji An remained very polite.

He was considerably older than Co Co, and his attitude towards her was like that towards a Younger Sister.

Moreover, she was the daughter of the previous Chieftain. With this status, she commanded even more respect.

However, since he had been selected by everyone to discuss the work situation, he naturally could not return empty-handed without an explanation.

“There are many other tasks in the Tribe that can be done. Doing those tasks is the same, and you can obtain quite a lot of food every day.” Co Co pointed towards the sea and continued, “Weren’t you taught fishing and angling before? These are also very good jobs.”

The Sea Fish Tribe was not small in number. Adding up the adults and children, there were several hundred people.

The daily food requirements were still considerable. Relying solely on support from the Flame Dragon Tribe was not a long-term solution.

The Sea Fish Tribe naturally had to contribute their share to sourcing for food. Being by the sea, they naturally had to rely on the sea for sustenance.

The last time Yan Hua’s people came, they taught everyone how to fish and angle. They even gave them all the tools. If they followed those methods to fish and angle, the Tribe’s food supply would not be scarce.

“That work is too dangerous. If we’re not careful, we could lose our lives. No one is willing to do it,” Ji An shrugged.

It was not that he had not tried to persuade the others, but they all valued their lives too much. Moreover, since there were others in the Tribe doing those safe jobs, with this comparison they were even less willing to do this dangerous work.

“No one’s asking you to directly risk your lives. Within the prescribed range, there’s no danger at all.” Co Co sighed and continued, “If you’re afraid of danger, you can angle. You only need to stay on the shore.”

She did not know why the Tribe’s people had recently become so difficult. They had never been like this before.

Perhaps they had been oppressed by the Sea Insect Tribe for too long, living unbearable lives each day.

Now suddenly rescued from the Sea Insect Tribe, perhaps these people had released all the dissatisfaction accumulated in their hearts at once.

“*Haaa…* I’ll try my best to talk to them. I don’t want to see you in a difficult position either. It’s just that the others don’t want to be treated differently.” Ji An said helplessly.

He also knew that everyone had been oppressed by the Sea Insect Tribe before, when they had been taken by the Sea Insect Tribe as slaves.

Now that they had finally gained their freedom, those people naturally did not want to be singled out for comparison again.

Moreover, some people were now doing safe work and receiving lots of food, while others doing dangerous work could not obtain much food.

“No one wants to be treated differently. It’s just that what you did before was truly too excessive.” Co Co sighed and continued, “The Chieftain has his own considerations. Otherwise, who wouldn’t want you to have good lives?”

Mainly because some time ago, everyone had been extremely resistant to the Sea Fish Tribe being taken over by the Flame Dragon Tribe, with everyone showing unpleasant expressions.

Some of the more foolish ones even caused trouble in the Tribe, and some gathered other similarly dissatisfied people.

Since Qiong Gu had become the new Chieftain of the Sea Fish Tribe, he naturally did not want to see these people causing trouble.

Originally, Su Bai had given repeated instructions about salt drying, that they must find reliable people to do it.

The Flame Dragon Tribe did not want their trump card casually discovered by others. Salt drying was an extremely confidential job.

If a Tribe controlled salt, it could control most of the market, firmly grasping the initiative in their own hands.

Su Bai was still very clear about this point. As the Tribe developed faster and faster, and with a new Tribe as well, he had no choice but to expand the salt drying grounds. Because the Sea Fish Tribe was so close to the sea, he arranged for their people to take up these important positions.

“They all know they were wrong. Now, they only ask to have enough to eat.” Ji An said immediately.

He actually felt somewhat ashamed, because at the time he had been extremely dissatisfied with the Tribe being taken over by others.

“There is nothing wrong with making a mistake and desiring to make amends. Wait a while. Let’s see if the Chieftain will have any new arrangements.” Co Co said helplessly.

However, Co Co also breathed a sigh of relief. As long as the Tribe’s people were not too resistant now, that was good.

Gradually, as the Tribe developed better and better, they should also realise that being taken over by the Flame Dragon Tribe was not a bad thing.

“I understand. I’ll go persuade them again. But whether they’ll listen or not, I don’t know…” Ji An waved his hand.

He now already knew he was wrong and definitely wanted to do his utmost to make amends for his previous mistakes.

“I believe you can do it,” Co Co said warmly.
