I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 718, Don’t Want to Fall into a People’s War

Yu Ying looked at her fingernails with delight, all wrapped in little leaves, looking quite comical.

She wiggled her fingers and asked happily. “Shaman, I can’t feel anything in my fingers at all!”

“You won’t feel anything. If you did feel something, it would mean you’re allergic and cannot do this.” Su Bai explained.

“Shaman, I’m so excited to see what colour it will be!” Yu Ying said happily, swishing her pink fox tail.

Su Bai blinked his black eyes and smiled as he prepared other matters, with quite a few more papers appearing on the desk.

“Shaman, what are you going to do?” Yu Ying asked curiously.

“Arrange work for the Tribe’s people. It needs to be assigned properly,” Su Bai said seriously.

“Arrange work for the Tribe’s people?” Yu Ying asked, tilting her head.

Su Bai nodded and said earnestly. “Yes, the work now is too mixed up and looks very chaotic.”

The work in the Flame Dragon Tribe was indeed quite messy at present, with everyone’s division of labour being very unclear.

Most importantly, the job categories were extremely chaotic, without any specialised career planning. Sometimes it was very difficult to measure when distributing food.

“Shaman, what do you plan to do?” Yu Ying asked curiously.

“I plan to divide the work into several major categories, with each major category having fixed food allocation. This way, managing the Tribe’s people won’t be difficult either.” Su Bai said plainly.

He temporarily did not have much time to subdivide the rewards for each job individually, as this would take too much time and energy.

“Shaman, I don’t understand what you mean.” Yu Ying looked completely innocent.

“Let me give you an example. Our Tribe has toilets now, doesn’t it?” Su Bai saw her nod and continued. “Cleaning toilets along with cleaning the main roads and houses would be classified as one category.”

“Mm-hmm…” Yu Ying nodded heavily, her pink eyes continuing to watch him.

“Besides that, cleaning the stables, sheep pens and such would also be classified as one category. People doing this category of work would receive roughly the same amount of food,” Su Bai explained.

This was one aspect of his idea to divide work into several major categories. It would be impossible to subdivide it to the point of specifying how much food street cleaners get versus how much food toilet cleaners get.

If he divided it this way, his daily workload would increase greatly, so he thought of dividing it into major categories for reward distribution.

Of course, currently all people with jobs in the Tribe could be allocated food, but everyone received the same quantity of food.

Regardless of what work they did, they all received exactly the same food. This way, it was very unfair to those doing hard work.

Sometimes people clearly did more work than others, heavier work than others, so why shouldn’t they receive more food?

This was just the early stage, so everyone definitely would not think anything of it, but as the Tribe gradually developed, there would be many complaints.

He did not want to fall into the vast ocean of opinion wars. One must know that if the Tribe’s people united to provoke trouble, he himself would find it very difficult to deal with.

Though it was unlikely, and he did not fear for his personal safety, such matters still need to be fixed before they grow dire.

“I understand. People with similar work nature are divided into one category, right?” Yu Ying blinked her pink eyes and continued. “This way, they can receive the same amount of food, and can be different from the other categories.”

“Exactly. You manage to understand immediately. Different categories of work can receive different amounts of food.” Su Bai picked up the tea he had just poured and continued: “This way, everyone also has more room for choice and will work more diligently.”

He definitely did not want everyone to think that no matter what work they did, they would receive the same amount of food. Once they thought this way, everyone would choose the easy jobs when selecting work. If that happened, who would do the heavy work?

So, the rewards absolutely had to be completely divided fairly, made transparent and open, giving everyone the degree of choice.

“Shaman, do you need my help?” Yu Ying also thought this matter was very good.

“It’s fine. Your fingers haven’t finished being dyed yet, so don’t be in a hurry,” Su Bai waved his hand.

He took out paper and a quill pen and began listing out all the Tribe’s work.

Only by writing out all the work first could he slowly assign them to the corresponding major categories.

“Workers moving stones, workers polishing stones, workers making plant ash cement…” Su Bai muttered to himself while writing on paper, then looked up and continued. “Workers building houses and so on, all of these are divided into one major category.”

He had divided the first category, which contained all the heavy labour work.

Naturally, the heavier the work, the more food one could receive, and there might even be some additional rewards.

“Next is the textile major category, which includes those who sort Ramie, spin it into thread, make it into cloth…”

Su Bai continued writing on paper, muttering. “Up to cutting, all are classified as one category. Each person can receive three kilograms of meat per day…”

He was very seriously taking notes, writing down in detail on paper which work should be divided into which major category, how much reward each major category should receive, and so on.

Of course, the weight units of one kilogram, two kilograms, or three kilograms written on paper were all written down by Su Bai according to his own convenience first.

Most Tribe’s people temporarily did not know these weight units; most calculations were done using one stone as the unit.

Su Bai first wrote down the values according to his own convenience, then would convert them when actually implementing the system.

Or he would consider whether to promote weight units in the Tribe. After all, he had already promoted measurement units before.

Promoting weight units would not be difficult either; it would just require more explanation.

Several hours later, Su Bai finally finished his classification work, having written densely on several sheets of paper.

The papers densely presented several types of work, with corresponding reward income noted below each job.

…

Time passed slowly until dusk arrived. Yu Ying came running up to the Shaman.

She steadied her breathing and asked happily. “Shaman, so much time has passed already. Can I unwrap it and have a look?”

Yu Ying was getting a bit impatient, occasionally looking out the window at the sky to see if it had darkened outside.

She knew that once the sky began gradually approaching dusk, it meant the daffodil dyeing on her hands was about ready.

“Yes, you can do it now. Unwrap it and have a look,” Su Bai was also a bit curious.

Yu Ying gulped hard. To be honest, she was a bit nervous as she slowly reached out her hand.
