I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 737, A Pot That Catches Fire?

Su Bai stood before the floor-to-ceiling window watching the Tribe’s people, sighing with emotion, “It’s good to see everyone busy.”

Because once everyone started getting busy, it meant they had meat to eat and clothes to wear.

The Flame Dragon Tribe advocated that only through labour would one have food to eat; without labour, one should not expect to obtain food.

Even if Su Bai had the heart to help those who had been starving, the Tribe’s rules could not be broken. Moreover, this rule was one he had established, and he had to make the Tribe’s people understand that labour was necessary for survival. If they seek charity, they could only seek it from their peers, Su Bai could not take the initiative to provide. Otherwise, there would always be people who were lazy and gluttonous, or who wanted to pretend they could not do anything and wait to be satiated.

He detested these parasites the most; such people offered no help whatsoever to the Tribe, and its development.

“Shaman, everyone is extremely sincere about your rules and doesn’t dare slack off.” Yu Ying immediately said.

Yu Ying was very clear about this point, because she had also seen the changes in those people.

Every day she had to go outside the Tribe to look around. Besides doing the corresponding work, she also had to observe the Tribe’s changes.

Although she looked at the Flame Dragon Tribe every day, each day’s observation brought about a different feeling.

“If it weren’t for those specially made seasonings, they wouldn’t work as hard.” Su Bai smiled.

He began to sigh at the power of seasonings. Without them, he too would be unwilling to eat the fishy and foul-smelling meat.

“Shaman, how should those crops you mentioned before be prepared?” Yu Ying asked curiously.

Yu Ying had received several packets of seeds very early on, and at the time it was said that these seeds were all crops. When grown, they could be made into seasonings, precisely the seasonings on the roasted meat they were eating now.

“Oh! Can all those crops be harvested already?” Su Bai asked curiously.

Previously, the System had successively produced some garlic, cumin, chilli peppers, some basil and the like.

These had all been produced consecutively for roughly a whole week.

At the time, Su Bai had been particularly surprised, not expecting to receive so many delightful gifts in such a short time.

One must know that what the System had produced before were all ready-made items, and once those ready-made items were used up, there would be no more.

But the seeds were different. He could plant them and continuously keep the seeds, then continue to cultivate more seeds.

As long as the farmland was not destroyed by others or completely disappeared, these seasonings would continuously exist.

“They can all be harvested. I’ve already kept the seeds aside, but I don’t know how to prepare them.” Yu Ying said, somewhat adorably foolish.

Yu Ying had placed all those seasonings in a large basket, which looked quite colourful and beautiful.

“Bring it over. I’ll teach you how to prepare them, and you can learn for the future.” Su Bai said gently.

Preparing seasonings was a profound and mysterious matter. Although it couldn’t be called particularly difficult, the preparation process was very interesting.

“Yes.” Yu Ying turned and had someone bring the items out from the kitchen.

A large basket was placed on the table surface. Yu Ying successively took out the spring onions, coriander, garlic, and chilli peppers from inside.

The tabletop looked extremely abundant. Even without approaching, one could smell the aroma these crops emitted.

There were the coriander’s distinctive smell and garlic’s aroma, and the chilli pepper and cumin’s scent were also quite obvious.

“Actually, seasonings can be made in many varieties. They can be made as the stored kind or as the fresh-eating kind.” Su Bai fiddled with the crops on the tabletop while explaining, “I’ll first teach you to make some fresh-eating seasonings.”

“Yes.” Yu Ying nodded particularly earnestly.

Su Bai began taking out a small knife to cut the coriander and spring onions into small sections, then cut the chilli peppers into finely broken small circles. There was also garlic cut into minced form, and cumin seeds were all collected together in a small wooden bowl.

In just a few minutes, these crops had all been processed into small bowl after small bowl.

Su Bai had Yu Ying bring over soy sauce and vinegar. Apart from the soy sauce being produced by the System, vinegar had been brewed by them previously.

He took out another clean bowl and said earnestly, “You can adjust according to each person’s different taste preferences.”

“Shaman, after processing all these things, do we then take a little bit of each and put them in one bowl?” Yu Ying boldly guessed.

“Correct. I prefer eating things that are a bit spicy, so I’ll put chilli pepper and minced garlic in the bowl…”

Su Bai spoke while placing things in the bowl, continuing to say, “Like this, mixing all the things together forms the fresh-eating sauce.”

The sauce he was preparing was similar to the dipping sauce used for hotpot, both involving dipping food in it before eating.

However, this type of sauce had to be discarded after eating the meal. The -effectiveness of preservatives was not great, as the taste would very quickly sour in time.

“Shaman, is this all right already?” Yu Ying looked at the colourful contents of the wooden bowl; the colours alone looked quite good.

“If you’re eating roasted meat or hotpot, using this dipping sauce is absolutely necessary.” Su Bai missed hotpot quite a bit.

“I see.” Yu Ying dipped her finger in to try the taste, instantly widening her eyes in amazement, “Shaman, the taste is stellar.”

In the Primitive Tribe, there was no concept of sauces. When they cooked things to eat, they would cook skin and fur all together. How could they even think of specially combining ingredients together as dipping sauce?

No, even if the taste were good, even if they wanted to make it, they had no way to. Apart from lacking the materials, they also lacked the knowledge to create it.

“Let’s eat hotpot tonight, and we’ll use this dipping sauce.” Su Bai said, thinking of hotpot made him want to eat it.

Having Transmigrated for so long, already more than half a year. Combined with the items produced by the System, they could finally have a proper hotpot.

“Shaman, why do we suddenly want to eat a pot that catches fire? Is the food I make not tasty?” Yu Ying instantly froze. The smile on her face when trying the sauce earlier also came to an abrupt halt, replaced by puzzlement.

(Silavin: Hotpot in Chinese characters is ‘fire pot’)

“Ha ha ha ha…” Su Bai laughed heartily, continuing to say, “Hotpot doesn’t mean a pot that catches fire, but rather it’s the name of a cruise.”

However, thinking about it, this name was so straightforward that people of the Primitive Era would naturally also think it meant a pot catching fire.

“So that’s how it is. But how should it be made?” Yu Ying had never heard this term before.

“Wait a moment, I’ll teach you what materials to prepare. Right now, let’s first learn another method for making sauce,” Su Bai said gently.

The other method was to completely air-dry and preserve the sauce, or pickle it.

“Yes.” Yu Ying immediately nodded.
