Arceus's Pirate Journey

Chapter 167: Chapter 166: The Radio Snail That Defected

The communication was brief, but it made them realize each other’s identity - the Beasts Pirates.

”His attitude is very unfriendly, it’s difficult to make contact.”

”Even if it’s difficult, we must make contact. The people above won’t abandon the seastone trade. We need seastone products and weapons unique to Wano Kuni. Buying from the black market is not only expensive, but the quality and quantity can’t be guaranteed. We need a stable supplier.”

”Previously, he was in contact with Kurozumi Orochi. Did we misjudge the internal relationships of Wano Country? It seems the Beasts Pirates and Kurozumi Orochi are not that friendly.”

”That guy’s personality... it’s not surprising if it provoked those pirates.”

”They connected the call, so there’s still a possibility for negotiation. Let’s organize their information first.”

After a simple discussion, they believed they had focused on the wrong contact in Wano. Previously, they focused on Kurozumi Orochi, but now it seems Kurozumi Orochi doesn’t hold much power in Wano; the Beasts Pirates are the main force.

Since that’s the case, they needed to plan anew.

...

On Ghost Island, after the call was disconnected, many people showed confused expressions. Initially, they didn’t intend to answer the call, but Arceus entrusted a pirate to deliver this kind of information, giving them a sense of possible communication.

The entire purpose of this was not for anything else but to make this Radio Snail remember the Radio Snail of CP0 on the other side. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

”Do you remember that snail companion just now?”

After hanging up, Arceus was communicating with that Radio Snail. After being thrown away by the agent, it almost lost half its life. Although it was retrieved, usually such Radio Snails couldn’t be repaired.

An injured snail would usually be abandoned and die slowly, but Arceus discovered a new use for this snail, turning it into an Omanyte, and used Life Dew to replenish its vitality.

The purpose was eavesdropping. There is a type of black Radio Snail that likes to exchange messages with its kind and is therefore used as a listening device.

With unknown countless Radio Snails in the world, to eavesdrop accurately, the number of the Radio Snail is needed, and the incoming call provided this opportunity.

The Omanyte had remembered this number. Radio Snails are grateful creatures; during the war at the top, a Radio Snail rescued by Buggy was so moved it was in tears.

This Radio Snail felt the same gratitude; they were willing to be communication tools to find a master who could provide for them. That agent treated it horribly, while the Beasts saved it, prompting it to take on this task as repayment.

”Remembered.”

Remembering the frequency of that Radio Snail and exchanging information with it was its task. The Radio Snail, enhanced in intelligence level, became the Beasts Pirates’ eavesdropping expert, dedicated to intercepting some information from the World Government.

As for why it could talk, Radio Snails naturally mimic human voices and understand human language. After becoming an Omanyte, it was enhanced to the point where it could speak human language even without being on a call.

He did this as a precaution. The Lunarians Race has a deep hatred for the current World Government. They are not enemies now simply because it’s not the right time. Since they will eventually be enemies, it is only prudent to prepare early.

”Find a reliable person; his task will be to care for it in the future, understand?”

Thus, Queen became the caretaker of this new Radio Snail. He was already raising dozens of snails from Wano Kuni, so adding one more Radio Snail was no trouble.

”Alright, if there’s nothing else, carry on with your tasks. By the way, how are the fireworks arrangements going?”

”Ready, it can start at any time, but it’s best to wait until it gets a little darker.”

...

Although it’s not the time for Wano Kuni to produce fireworks, the numerous weapon factories within Wano can draw some gunpowder from weapon-making materials to be modified for use as fireworks.

Almost all the firework craftsmen from the Udon Region were brought to a factory, and their task was to produce qualified fireworks.

Each firework was marked with a name, and the person who brought them to the factory already mentioned that the best fireworks producer would receive an additional reward of 100 gold.

Under such circumstances, everyone put in full effort and enthusiasm, using their best skills.

Tonight, Wano Kuni was destined to be bustling. As the moon ascended, the prepared fireworks were ignited one after the other in an open space.

Yamato was startled by the fireworks in the sky at first, but as metallic powder started to burn in the air, the splendid patterns captured all her interest.

Jack and Maria did the same. Although the fireworks were prepared for Yamato, not only the three children on Ghost Island but everyone in Wano Kuni saw this grand display of fireworks.

To achieve that so-called reward, the craftsmen spared no effort, and the bigger the fireworks, the more magnificent the effects. That required increasing the amount of gunpowder, thus raising the height of the explosions. Even in the farthest Kibi, the commotion on Ghost Island could be vaguely seen.

”Mom, why are there fireworks today?”

”Perhaps a big shot is celebrating a birthday.”

”Can my birthday be celebrated like this?”

”No, Kentaro, we don’t have that ability.”

In the closed-off Wano Kuni, fireworks are regulated. They are usually only released on specific occasions organized by the General and Daimyos, typically during the Fire Festival, New Year, or the General’s inauguration days.

Usually, they can be seen no more than twice a year. They couldn’t imagine that this grand firework display was merely arranged because Yamato was interested, so the Beasts Pirates organized this fireworks event.

On Ghost Island, a banquet was also held, with Queen acting as the host holding a microphone.

The people on Ghost Island were reveling, while ordinary citizens of Wano were enjoying the fireworks. The Daimyos from other regions had little reaction, but two groups had no interest in the fireworks.

One was Kurozumi Orochi, who just woke up after being knocked out by Kaidou’s Supreme King Haki. Upon hearing the sound of fireworks, he thought the Beasts Pirates had attacked, naturally, he was too scared to enjoy the fireworks, making him more doubtful if allowing the Beasts Pirates here was the right decision.

And in Kuri, Kozuki Oden’s retainers likewise had no interest in the fireworks, all because of Kinemon.

Even though he was redeemed, he was severely injured not only physically but also mentally. Initially, he didn’t dare to sleep, and it took many days of recovery before he could sleep like a normal person again.

However, today’s fireworks shocked him once more, worsening his condition...
