The Cheat Emperor of the Culinary World

Chapter 97: Chapter 96: Kitchen Order Restructuring

The August weather is at its hottest.

Fu Yu entered the restaurant gate, drenched in sweat, and was instantly chilled by the air conditioning.

Refreshing!

He sighed comfortably, then leisurely walked towards the dormitory, trying to enjoy the coolness for as long as possible.

No choice.

The restaurant’s air conditioning was only for the front hall; in the dormitory, they had to use fans.

Fu Yu didn’t buy a fan to save money. When it got too hot, he’d just lay a sheet on the floor and sleep there.

Fu Yu went over to Zhao Meng’s room with some beef jerky.

He knocked on the door.

Zhao Meng came to open it and let him in.

Once inside, Fu Yu immediately spotted two bundled bamboo mats on the bed.

One was already open, while the other was still rolled up.

”Chef Zhao, where did these bamboo mats come from?”

Zhao Meng grinned proudly, ”Oh, Xiaodai said it’s hot, and her kid couldn’t sleep well at night, so she asked an old classmate to get a mat for her. She thought of me sleeping well and specially sent two over!”

Fu Yu handed over the beef jerky and moved closer to touch the bamboo mat.

It was quite nice.

He had one like this at home, and it was particularly cool to sleep on.

”Sister Dai is really nice. This mat is for me too, right?”

Fu Yu directly hugged the unopened mat to his chest.

Zhao Meng didn’t have any relatives here, so as soon as he got a new mat, he must have called him over to share.

Zhao Meng chuckled in exasperation.

This kid never gets the message right!

Zhao Meng rolled his eyes, ”Yes, yes, there’s one for you! What good stuff doesn’t include you!”

Saying that, he opened the bag and took a look.

Wow, beef jerky!

This stuff is delicious but weighs heavy and is expensive too.

Zhao Meng casually weighed it in his hand, at least seven or eight taels, must be around a hundred yuan.

He couldn’t help but soften his expression, took one piece to chew on, then handed the bag to Fu Yu for him to eat.

Fu Yu shook his head, ”I ate too much for dinner just now; you can keep it for yourself.”

Fu Yu wouldn’t bear to eat something this expensive; he bought it only to treat Zhao Meng.

Zhao Meng looked at him and felt even softer.

Clearing his throat, he brought up the main issue, ”I called you over because there’s something to tell you.”

”I ran into Accountant Xin just after getting off work. She said the boss plans to rearrange the back kitchen’s order-taking. The news isn’t confirmed yet, but there’s a hint... Though there are not many people in the back kitchen, order-taking involves commissions. I thought I’d give you a heads up since, in future, I might have to split with Chef Gu and handle orders alone.”

Is the boss preparing to reorganize the back kitchen’s order-taking?

If Zhao Meng and Gu Yunwu split and take orders separately, they would each work independently.

Eight yuan commission per table wouldn’t need to be shared.

But if orders are taken in order of requests...

Wouldn’t it depend on luck who gets more large or small tables?

This way, it definitely affects serving speed.

Originally, order allocation was managed by Zhao Meng and Gu Yunwu personally.

For a table, whoever excelled at a dish would make that dish.

Two people coordinating meant the work wasn’t tiring.

They had been doing it like this for so many years, it was a routine.

But of course, with disadvantages come advantages.

At least from the back kitchen staffing standpoint...

This means others would have more chances to hold the ladle!

Usually, the back kitchen was always dominated by Zhao Meng and Gu Yunwu, the two big chefs.

Now that they can’t handle it all, those around them will have to help out.

Fu Yu and Yao Yihang were regularized; now they can handle the ladle themselves.

Their positions would need replacements.

This opens up opportunities for advancement to those who usually only did menial tasks.

Fu Yu thought it over and felt it wasn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Just in future order-taking, Zhao Meng and Gu Yunwu might have disagreements on the size of tables on rotations.

After all, Qianlima has a rule, eight yuan commission per table.

Previously, it was split evenly between the two.

Now with separate orders, the small tables are lightweight and quick money.

If the rotation of luck has today with small tables and plenty for you and tomorrow for him, it would be peaceful then.

But if one gets unlucky and receives all large table orders, what then?

That affects hard-earned commissions!

Even brothers keep clear accounts!

Let alone Zhao Meng and Gu Yunwu?

By then, who knows how it’ll amplify conflicts!

Fu Yu felt the boss set this too rashly.

This invites trouble, risking chaos and discord in the kitchen.

Zhao Meng naturally thought of this too.

But after all, he can’t fight against it.

Now, since the boss has this intention, they can only confront it when it comes.

But Gu Yunwu trying to take advantage of him won’t be easy.

Zhao Meng specially called Fu Yu to remind him to keep good relations with the small workers on his side.

Considering the current situation, it wouldn’t be long before another person needs promotion as assistant chef.

If choosing sides again, it better be someone amicable and compatible.

Fu Yu always followed Zhao Meng’s orders to the letter.

Upon Zhao Meng’s advice, he nodded repeatedly, ”Alright, I know, I have a good relationship with the others.”

Zhao Meng also reckoned it hasn’t been finalized; otherwise, Yao Shi would have hinted at it.

Now that he knew what’s likely coming, when it starts, they’d be somewhat prepared.

Having said all they needed, Zhao Meng chewed on beef jerky, looking at Fu Yu with an unwittingly gentle gaze.

This kid, appearing slick and unruly, has a very righteous core.

Fu Yu’s concern and respect for him didn’t go unnoticed by Zhao Meng.

He received Fu Yu’s goodwill and naturally considered reciprocating it.

After chatting for a bit, Zhao Meng asked in detail about Fu Yu’s experiences at the music restaurant.

Fu Yu recounted everything.

After listening, Zhao Meng advised, ”Don’t speak of things over there here in future. Be cautious, walls have ears.”

Fu Yu nodded, ”Alright, I understand.”

Once Fu Yu left with the bamboo mat.

Zhao Meng called Yao Shi.

Unexpectedly, after two rings, Yao Shi immediately hung up.

It wasn’t convenient to take the call.

This matter wasn’t urgent anyway, Zhao Meng shifted and lay on his brand-new bamboo mat.

As he chewed on the beef jerky, he pondered what he should give Dai Li in return.

After all, it was her thoughtful gesture.

He couldn’t just accept it for nothing.

Meanwhile, Yao Shi swiftly hung up, then knocked on Boss Dong Jun Tian’s house door.
