The Cheat Emperor of the Culinary World

Chapter 67: Chapter 66: Advanced Ingredient Selection Skill

Part-time job at the music restaurant?

Fu Yu looked at Yao Shi somewhat surprised.

And they’ll pay you according to full-time staff benefits?

Fu Yu was immediately a bit excited.

That’s great!

It’s like a pie falling from the sky.

Fu Yu was just about to agree, when an electronic notification suddenly sounded by his ear:

[Ding! Task from NPC music restaurant owner Yao Shi: Part-time at the restaurant, teaching the back kitchen staff how to make dough balloons. Completion reward: A random personal skill of Yao Shi (Intermediate level)]

Fu Yu’s heart instantly started racing.

Accepting the part-time job not only came with pay but also a personal skill from Chef Yao.

This was practically stuffing the pie into his mouth; if he didn’t take a bite, it would be a waste of his good luck.

Fu Yu originally wanted to be polite, but he couldn’t afford to be modest now, so he quickly nodded and agreed, ”Okay, Chef Yao, I’ll follow your arrangements.”

Yao Shi smiled with satisfaction, ”Alright, the part-time starts from today, and I’ll inform the finance department to start calculating your salary. As for the salary, it will be based on the chef’s standard, a minimum of 5000 yuan a month, and a 10-yuan commission per table, and you’ll get three meals a day.”

”However, when teaching the dough balloon technique, it will be hourly paid, 100 yuan per hour, and any innovative dishes will be calculated separately.”

Fu Yu’s attention immediately focused on the 10-yuan commission per table.

Is the music restaurant’s commission that high?

At Qianlima, it’s only 8 yuan per table, and that’s split between Zhao Meng and Gu Yunwu.

And you know the music restaurant usually starts with orders of dozens of tables!

Whoa!

He was tempted to switch jobs immediately!

However.

Fu Yu thought about his daily task and quickly said, ”Chef Yao, regarding the dough balloon, I’ve always felt there’s an issue that needs adjusting.”

Yao Shi was taken aback, ”What issue?”

Fu Yu explained, ”When I made the dough balloon earlier, I blew directly with my mouth, which is really not very hygienic, and this aspect should be improved.”

Yao Shi nodded in agreement; when it comes to food, apart from taste, hygiene is the most critical.

”That’s easy to handle. We can have the purchaser buy a specialized pump.”

Fu Yu asked, ”So, do we start the teaching today?”

Yao Shi waved his hand, ”No rush, there are quite a few orders today, let’s leave it for next time.”

Fu Yu quickly asked, ”Chef Yao, I still want to practice again on soy sauce king prawn. Could I do two more dishes?”

Yao Shi laughed, ”Sure! But you can’t just practice one dish. I see your plating is fine, so after a while, practice some steamed dishes. There’s just two very suitable ones to practice with.”

As long as he could cook independently, Fu Yu was fine with anything.

After independently making two more plates of soy sauce king prawns.

Fu Yu began learning the two new steamed dishes Yao Shi taught him.

Papaya stewed snow hash and steamed sea grouper.

Yao Shi taught meticulously, and Fu Yu learned attentively.

When Fu Yu mastered them, Yao Shi had him cook independently.

These two steamed dishes, although seemingly simple, demanded high precision in ingredient quantity control, steaming time, and seasoning proportions.

With Fu Yu’s skills in controlling heat, he handled it all effortlessly.

And during plating, once again, by precisely controlling the details, he received praise from Yao Shi.

The work rhythm at the music restaurant is actually faster than at the Qianlima Restaurant.

Because the back kitchen had to coordinate with customer orders and prepare dishes in advance, they needed to swiftly complete the preparation of all table settings.

And the cooking process becomes quite monotonous.

The same dish, in a production line process.

Each person is responsible for two dishes, making them dozens of times; without patience, it’s really quite hard to endure.

Yao Shi busied himself with his head down for a while, then he turned to look at Fu Yu.

He saw Fu Yu intently working on plating, an expression of ease on his face, with no sign of being fed up at all.

Yao Shi couldn’t help but lift the corners of his mouth.

He has talent, patience, and a flexible mind.

He’s truly a talent.

If he doesn’t get the head chef position this time, maybe I should just transfer him early?

Fu Yu didn’t notice Yao Shi’s gaze.

He was earnestly focused on the plating he was doing.

The last bit of garnish, sliced ginger, was sprinkled in a regular pattern over the steamed grouper, and Fu Yu silently held his breath.

The next second, an electronic notification indeed sounded by his ear:

[Ding! Daily task: Completed cooking ten times independently, completed successfully. Reward: 20 RMB, task experience +10]

[Ding! Daily task signed in for 10/10 days in a row, completed successfully, reward: Advanced ingredient selection skill]

The phone vibrated slightly.

Before Fu Yu could check the reward, the feeling of knowledge flooding him came again!

A moment passed.

Fu Yu shivered.

In a mindless moment, he looked at the prepared ingredients on the kitchen table.

Fu Yu picked up a piece of fresh tenderloin.

Immediately a dialogue box popped up over the tenderloin: [Pork: Freshness: 90%]

Fu Yu held an egg in one hand.

A dialogue box immediately popped up over the egg: [Egg: Freshness: 85%]

Fu Yu: ”!”

Whoa!

Is it really this impressive?

With this skill, there’s no need to worry about not getting the freshest ingredients anymore.

And... what’s with this new knowledge in his memory now?

His eyes looked at the shredded carrots in the prep bowl, and a thought suddenly emerged in his mind: These are Spring Red No. 2.

Spring Red No. 2?

The thought arose, and another memory appeared: Spring Red No. 2 carrots, skin, flesh, and core all red, deep color, fast coloring, even root shape, smooth root skin, good ending, good shape.

Is this... knowledge related to vegetables?

Fu Yu learned these things when he was in culinary school.

But during class, the teacher explained very generally, just common fruits and vegetables in the market.

Such specific knowledge about fruit and vegetable varieties is something Fu Yu has never really encountered.

Though he doesn’t know its utility, isn’t there a saying that you can never have too much knowledge?

After all, learning more gives you more.

Compared to the advanced ingredient selection skill, Fu Yu is still more interested in improving stir-fry techniques.

While waiting for the ingredients to steam, Fu Yu carefully sorted through some specific operation methods for the stir-fry technique improvement.

Upon review, he was belatedly aware that this ”can alleviate the weight on the wrist holding the pot, making it better for stir-fry operations,” seems beneficial for his pot-holding wrist?

He usually holds the pot with his left hand.

Fu Yu reached out to the single-handled steaming pot, half-filled with water plus a plate of grouper, then exerted his wrist strength to level the pot.

The weight that should have been heavy suddenly seemed to have lost gravity.

Fu Yu had gathered strength in his left hand, never expecting this to happen suddenly, and almost threw the pot up from excessive force.

Fortunately, he timely reigned in his strength.

Amazing!
