The Cheat Emperor of the Culinary World

Chapter 76: Chapter 75: Official Promotion to Full-Time Position

Yao Shi came out of the boss’s office and hurriedly called Accountant Xin Li.

After hearing him out, Xin Li was momentarily stunned: ”What? Start paying them with the regular employee salary from tomorrow? But the contracts haven’t been drafted yet?”

Yao Shi explained, ”The boss just instructed me to let you know.”

Xin Li sighed, ”Alright then, I’ll draft the contracts tomorrow at work and have them sign them afterward.”

Yao Shi hung up the phone and went straight to the kitchen.

The early shift workers had all left.

Zhao Meng was busy tossing the wok, while Fu Yu assisted beside him.

Yao Shi announced, ”Good news! Fu Yu, your salary will switch to regular employee terms starting tomorrow!”

Tomorrow marked his official promotion!

Fu Yu was thrilled upon hearing this, ”Really?”

Yao Shi smiled at Fu Yu, ”I just spoke with Accountant Xin, and she said once the new contract is drafted tomorrow, she’ll have you sign it.”

Fu Yu happily jumped on the spot, ”I’m finally a regular employee!!”

Zhao Meng also smiled, sincerely expressing, ”That’s great.”

Sun Qingning joined in, exclaiming, ”Congratulations, Fu Yu!!”

Fu Yu grinned from ear to ear, ”Thank you, thank you!”

Others also followed suit, congratulating Fu Yu.

On the surface, they all seemed quite happy.

But deep down, a few couldn’t help feeling a bit envious of Fu Yu’s good fortune.

They all entered the kitchen at the same time as junior staff, yet Fu Yu caught Zhao Meng’s eye.

And now he was also promoted ahead of them.

In the future, everyone would still be working in the kitchen, yet Fu Yu would earn a higher salary, which was frustrating to think about.

At this moment, Zhao Meng said, ”Fu Yu, now that you’re a regular, you should treat everyone to a meal!”

Sun Qingning immediately chimed in, ”A treat is a must!”

With someone leading, others quickly joined in the fun.

Fu Yu readily agreed, ”Sure! You guys pick the place!”

The atmosphere was just right.

Zhao Meng and Yao Shi exchanged a glance.

Yao Shi took the opportunity to encourage, ”Everyone else, don’t be discouraged. Once I discuss specific implementation plans with Chef Zhao and Chef Gu, we’ll start letting you all take turns on the stove to practice. Now there are two fewer competitors, so your chances at the next promotion will be even bigger. Everyone, be sure to keep pushing!”

Others immediately perked up upon hearing this.

That’s right!

Fu Yu and Yao Yihang had now been promoted and naturally wouldn’t be competing with them anymore.

Besides, listening to Chef Yao’s implication, there would be more promotion opportunities in the future.

Doesn’t that mean two strong competitors are out of the running!

Thinking this way, there’s hope again!

After clocking out, Fu Yu happily ran to the dormitory.

Zhao Meng was talking to Dai Li in the corridor and turned his head when he heard the commotion.

Seeing Fu Yu, Zhao Meng asked in surprise, ”What’s going on? Why the hurry?”

Fu Yu cheerfully greeted them, ”I just got promoted, so I want to call my parents and share the good news ASAP!”

Zhao Meng, both amused and helpless, said, ”Can’t you call them from anywhere?”

Fu Yu chuckled, ”I just got promoted, so I definitely have to brag to my parents. If someone else hears, it’d be so embarrassing!”

Dai Li burst out laughing, ”Alright, Chef Zhao, you better let him go back then!”

Zhao Meng waved his hand, ”Go on!”

Fu Yu jogged off.

Zhao Meng watched his retreating figure, shaking his head with a smile, ”What a kid!”

Dai Li laughed as well and said, ”There aren’t many young ones as simple-minded as Fu Yu these days.”

Zhao Meng nodded, ”Yeah, he doesn’t overthink things, and he’s quite dependable.”

Dai Li glanced at Zhao Meng and said, ”No wonder you like him.”

People who care about respecting their parents generally have good character.

Zhao Meng smiled, pinched the cigarette pack in his pocket, and said, ”Let’s go. I need to buy cigarettes anyway, so I’ll walk you to the station.”

Dai Li didn’t refuse.

She often ran into Zhao Meng going to buy cigarettes after late shifts.

Each time, Zhao Meng would offer to accompany her.

Dai Li was happy to have company.

After all, it was quite late, and walking alone on the street was a bit intimidating, but it felt different with someone by your side.

Upon returning to the dormitory, Fu Yu couldn’t bother with washing up and quickly called home.

It was a bit late and he wasn’t sure if his parents were asleep yet.

If it were about something else, he could hold back and wait until tomorrow to share with his parents.

But he had just been promoted.

This was a big deal for the family!

Being officially promoted meant he was finally putting down roots in this city.

His parents, who had always worried about him, could finally relax.

He couldn’t wait to share the good news with them and have them join in his joy.

His mom and dad were indeed thrilled!

The old couple on speakerphone were all smiles.

His father asked gleefully, ”Son, you’re amazing! When you become a head chef, will your salary increase?”

Fu Yu: ”Definitely, the base salary can go up to three thousand, plus I can get bonuses.”

Afraid his parents wouldn’t understand, he quickly explained: ”Even though I’m officially a regular now, I still need to gain experience. In the kitchen, we’re counting on bonuses and year-end awards.”

His parents laughed with joy.

His mom excitedly said, ”That’s wonderful! I knew you could do it!”

His dad also laughed and said, ”What did I say about my son! Only two people got promoted this time, and you’re one of them. Plus, you performed the best among the two!”

His mom gleefully said, ”Son, you’re truly amazing!”

Fu Yu giggled for a while and then sincerely said, ”Now I can have my own cooking station, and the work will be easier and I’ll earn more! When I’ve saved enough money, I’ll buy a house here and bring you both over!”

His mom repeatedly agreed, ”Alright, alright, we’ll just wait to enjoy life with you!”

His dad also said, ”That’s why they say I’ll have good fortune in my old age! I knew my son would be successful!”

After chatting with his parents for a while, his mom urged him to hang up the phone at last.

Fu Yu was feeling a bit carried away from his parents’ praise.

After washing up, he lay on his bed, too excited to sleep.

He couldn’t help but fantasize about the delightful future and plans ahead.

But because he went to bed so late, Fu Yu almost was late for work the next day.

He hurriedly rushed to the kitchen.

As soon as he arrived, he was informed to go to the finance office.

Yao Yihang was going with him.

Unexpectedly, the finance office was efficient and the regularization contract had already been drafted early.

The restaurant had handled backend employee formalities before.

The contract details were ready-made, needing just minor adjustments to specific salary terms.

Xin Li guided Fu Yu and Yao Yihang through signing the contracts.

After checking they were correct, she smiled and said, ”Congratulations! From now on, you’ll be addressed as Chef Fu and Chef Yao!”

Fu Yu and Yao Yihang smiled and thanked her.

After leaving the finance office.

Yao Yihang joked to Fu Yu, ”Our names are something! One’s named Fu, always sounds temporary. The other’s sharing the head chef’s surname, always sounds like the junior one, y’know...”

Fu Yu smiled, but said nothing.

Truth be told, he had no real issues with Yao Yihang.

They usually trained separately under Zhao Meng and Gu Yunwu without interfering with each other.

Yet, Fu Yu couldn’t bring himself to like Yao Yihang.

He reasoned it must’ve been due to the promotion, viewing each other as competitors.

Before, he indeed wasn’t as skilled, so because of envy and jealousy, he wasn’t inclined to interact much with Yao Yihang.
