The Cheat Emperor of the Culinary World

Chapter 55: Chapter 54: Another Chain Quest

Dong Jun Tian hung up the phone and turned to ask Fu Yu, ”Can you make desserts?”

Fu Yu forced a smile and fibbed, ”I can only make cream puffs. When I was in school, I specifically learned it to impress a female classmate from the dessert cooking department.”

Dong Jun Tian believed him.

He looked at Fu Yu with a hint of appreciation.

Kid, you’ve got talent!

Learning to make cream puffs just to woo a girl!

Good! You’ve got potential!!

Dong Jun Tian nodded, ”Alright, you should head over there.”

Zhao Meng also advised, ”Don’t try to show off over there! If there’s anything you don’t understand, ask more questions.”

Fu Yu agreed and left.

The dessert shop wasn’t far from Qianlima Restaurant; it only took about ten minutes by taxi to get there.

Fu Yu got into the car, told the driver the location of the dessert shop, and then checked his personal skills.

He had never made desserts before.

But since there’s a task, it means he can make this cream puff.

The only dessert-related skill he currently had was ”Dough Handling” (Intermediate).

Just having a feel for the dough isn’t enough; he needed to find a way to learn the specific method for making cream puffs.

That’s not something you can just learn by randomly browsing web pages and following instructions to get it right on the first try.

Although he hadn’t engaged in dessert making before, he assumed it must be similar to the red kitchen.

The baking temperature and the texture after baking test the dessert chef’s experience and technique.

It’s the same as how outsiders look at the appearance, while insiders focus on the details.

The newly acquired ”Skill Upgrade Guide” might be worth a shot.

After all, tasks generally aren’t pointless. Since it’s given, it means he can cope with it.

[Skill Upgrade Guide: Allows you to improve any personal skill, acquire ways to enhance the skill, and gain a substantial amount of skill experience,

improving the skill level. The specific skill experience points gained depend on the learning effect]

Fu Yu decided to enhance his baking skills.

The next second, a selection dialog box appeared.

[Please choose a personal skill: Bread: Sweet Bread, Whole Grain Bread... Cake: Chiffon Cake, Sponge Cake... Macarons: Puff Pastry Macaron, Soft Macaron...]

There were a full fifty pages of options to choose from.

Fu Yu: ”...”

To which baking category does cream puff belong?

Cookies? Cakes?

Fortunately, the task was considerate enough not to make him waste time flipping through page after page.

A search bar appeared at the bottom of the dialog box.

Fu Yu thought of cream puffs.

The dialog box quickly displayed a subcategory under desserts: Cream Puffs.

Fu Yu chose to improve his personal skill in making cream puffs.

Then suddenly, a sketch-style short video with images and text appeared before him.

The entire process of cooking cream puffs, as well as the things to keep an eye on, was shown.

Just as the little video began to play, Fu Yu realized that his brain was slightly beyond his control.

He considered himself fairly smart, but not to the extent of having a photographic memory.

But as the short video played from start to finish, Fu Yu felt as if he’d consumed a hundred boxes of walnuts and drank a hundred boxes of brain-enhancing supplements.

His memory suddenly improved remarkably.

Not only did he remember all the scenes in the video, but he also committed every precaution to memory without missing a single word.

That was incredible!

Closing the dialog box, Fu Yu specifically checked his personal attributes.

The personal skills in baking hadn’t appeared yet.

He suspected it might require practical application for the system to assign skill points based on his actual learning effect.

Suddenly feeling a bit eager to try it out!!

Twelve minutes later, the taxi arrived at the destination.

Fu Yu got out of the car and looked up to see the dessert shop brightly lit.

Fu Yu rushed over quickly.

Entering the shop, he saw Boss Pang pacing back and forth in the front hall.

”Oh, Chef Fu! You’re finally here!!”

Upon seeing Fu Yu, Boss Pang greeted him eagerly, rushing forward to warmly grab his arm and lead him inside.

”I was almost worried to death!”

Fu Yu was about to speak when he noticed a ”?” appear over Boss Pang’s head.

[Ding! The anxious boss of the dessert shop, unable to complete the order of 100 cream puffs on time, is worried. A serious conversation might trigger a side quest]

Another chain of tasks!!

Fu Yu was thrilled and quickly followed Boss Pang to the baking room.

In the baking room, two apprentices had already arrived early and were busy preparing baking tools.

Boss Pang introduced, ”This is Chef Fu from Qianlima Restaurant. He specially came over to help us with making the cream puffs!”

The two apprentices were delighted upon hearing this and quickly greeted him.

Boss Pang urgently urged: ”Chef Fu, let’s not delay, look at these materials, are they enough? What’s missing, I’ll have them prepare it right now.”

Ingredients for making fresh cream puffs?

Almost as soon as the thought arose, Fu Yu’s mind was filled with the text descriptions of the ingredients from a short video.

Butter? Check.

Milk? Check.

Low-gluten flour? Check.

Eggs? Check.

Salt and sugar? Check.

Cream and custard are also prepared.

Fu Yu carefully checked everything and said, ”The materials are sufficient.”

Boss Pang breathed a sigh of relief: ”Chef Fu, then let’s do it quickly!”

After all, baking takes time.

[Ding! NPC Dessert Shop Boss Pang’s Task: Complete 100 fresh cream puffs on time. Task reward: Boss Pang’s favorability +10]

Fu Yu: ”...”

Isn’t this serial task reward a bit too perfunctory?

But it’s better than nothing.

Before accepting the task, Fu Yu reminded Boss Pang: ”Boss Pang, I still need to communicate with your store’s pastry chef about the specific proportions of your usual baking supplies. After all, everyone has different methods and taste preferences, and your store must have its own fixed cooking methods.”

Everyone present was taken aback upon hearing this.

This Chef Fu is truly a connoisseur.

He’s not wrong.

Almost every dessert shop has its own signature items.

Just like the same type of fresh cream puff, because of the different brands of butter and cream used, the baked texture can vary.

Boss Pang then realized he was too anxious to think clearly, hurriedly nodded, and pulled out his phone to call the pastry chef Zhang Village.

Zhang Village’s daughter had already started her IV infusion, and since her condition was stable, his mood had also noticeably calmed down.

Fu Yu communicated with him about the production method of fresh cream puffs.

Zhang Village, with Boss Pang’s approval, told Fu Yu everything in detail.

After confirming the specific proportions, Fu Yu chose to accept the task.

Then he began baking the fresh cream puffs.

Took the butter, cut it, and put it into the pot.

Melt the butter by heating it.

Poured milk and sugar powder into the pot, brought it to a boil, and removed it from the heat.

Added sifted low-gluten flour, quickly mixed until there was no dry powder, and returned it to the stove to continue heating.

Stirred continuously.

Fu Yu stirred 85 times as required by the short video.

A thick film formed at the bottom of the pot, removing the pot from the heat.

Once the dough had completely cooled, he added the egg liquid in four parts.

Stirred using a folding method and loaded it into a piping bag.

Piped out small balls of uniform size, smoothing out any protruding parts on the surface.

Put them in the oven to bake.

Fu Yu worked with great skill.

The onlooking Boss Pang and two apprentices were stunned by his operation.

This is a master!

From start to finish, he didn’t even use a measuring scale.

All was done by feel.

Even the shop’s chef Zhang Village couldn’t reach this level.

No wonder Qianlima Restaurant sent him over to help.

minutes later.

The puffs came out of the oven.

Once cooled, he sliced them horizontally and added custard cream.

Each puff box contained six.

servings meant 600 puffs.

An hour and a half later.

All the puffs were packed into bags.

Boss Pang was overwhelmed with excitement and sincerely said, ”Chef Fu, thank you so much! If it weren’t for your help today, this order would definitely have gone down the drain!!”

[Ding! NPC Boss Dong Jun Tian’s Task: Assist Dessert Shop Boss Pang in making 100 fresh cream puffs, successfully completed, reward received: Dessert Cooking Skill (Advanced)]

[Ding! NPC Dessert Shop Boss Pang’s Task: Complete 100 fresh cream puffs on time, successfully completed, reward received: Boss Pang’s favorability +10]

Fu Yu smiled politely: ”It’s nothing.”

Boss Pang took out his phone: ”Here, Chef Fu, add me on Alipay, I’ll send you a bonus.”

Fu Yu quickly waved him off: ”No need to be polite, Boss Pang, it was our boss who sent me over.”

Boss Pang slapped his forehead: ”Alright, I’ll settle it with your boss later.”

Boss Pang was about to deliver the goods, so after loading the car, he gave Fu Yu a ride back to Qianlima Restaurant on the way.
