Chapter 52: Chapter 51: Live Demonstration

This takeaway order is extremely urgent, and everyone in the kitchen is on high alert to handle it!

After all, Yao Shi is the head chef. Upon learning the details of the order, he simply couldn’t sit still.

He rushed back to the restaurant right after the dinner party.

With Yao Shi present, the kitchen immediately had a central figure to rely on.

They sent someone to deliver the packed seafood porridge set to the buyer’s car.

Arranged a meeting time and place with Boss Pang from the dessert shop.

After handling all the tasks, Yao Shi waved his hand: ”Everyone who came in for temporary work tonight, log it as overtime. I’ll talk to finance about it.”

The helpers were quite happy.

At least their hustle wasn’t in vain. Pretty good.

After most people had left.

Yao Shi turned to Zhao Meng and asked, ”Do we still have ingredients? How about some seafood porridge for a late-night snack?”

This was clearly about addressing the previous matters.

Unable to protect his own, Zhao Meng had to instruct Fu Yu, ”Go prepare the ingredients; we’ll make some seafood porridge shortly.”

Yao Shi looked at Fu Yu, ”Are you sure the seafood porridge cooked in a wok will taste the same as one cooked in a clay pot?”

Fu Yu nodded, ”Sure.”

Yao Shi frowned slightly, glanced at Fu Yu, and then turned to Zhao Meng: ”Are you sure too?”

Zhao Meng glanced at Fu Yu.

He had just tasted the seafood porridge Fu Yu made in the wok.

Both the appearance and taste were indeed quite good.

Besides, although Fu Yu could be a bit cheeky and troublesome at times, he had good character.

In terms of work, he always completed assigned tasks diligently, unlike others who might try to slack off.

This time he claimed there was no issue with using the wok for porridge, and Zhao Meng had just seen it firsthand, so he felt somewhat confident.

Zhao Meng nodded, ”Well, let him try, it should be fine.”

Yao Shi made the decision right away: ”Okay, let’s do it now. Considering the few of us here, one pot won’t be enough. Making two pots should be fine, right?”

Fu Yu nodded, ”No problem.”

Since he had the skills, making two pots was not a problem; he had just cooked four pots earlier with good results.

Cooking porridge seems simple but is actually quite challenging to do well.

Before cooking porridge, it’s best to soak the rice in cold water for half an hour to let it expand.

The advantage of this is that it saves cooking time and the porridge becomes more creamy and flavorful when stirred in one direction.

For the previous takeaway seafood porridge, except for the first round of four pots made with raw rice, Fu Yu had soaked the rice in advance for the subsequent pots.

He placed the wok on the stove and started boiling water.

Fu Yu skillfully cleaned the seafood and cut it into small pieces.

Suddenly, Yao Shi’s phone rang.

He answered; it was Dong Jun Tian, the boss of Qianlima, calling.

Yao Shi quickly moved aside to take the call.

”Hello? Boss.”

Dong Jun Tian directly asked, ”You’re in the kitchen, right? Did we just get a big order at our place?”

”Yes, a customer ordered 80 sets of seafood porridge, and Xu Wei already sent it over.”

Dong Jun Tian cheerfully replied, ”That’s good, everyone’s worked hard. Hey, I’ll be passing by the restaurant soon. You’re not leaving, right? There’s something I want to discuss with you.”

Yao Shi replied, ”Okay, I’m not leaving, I’ll wait for you.”

After hanging up, Yao Shi walked back to the counter to watch Fu Yu making porridge.

At this sight, his eyes lit up.

Fu Yu’s cutting technique was incredibly skilled and smooth; his once incorrect hand movements had been corrected due to Yao Shi’s earlier guidance.

The angle of the knife and the precision of the cuts now bore some resemblance to Yao Shi’s style.

Carp, fresh shrimp, crab, squid...

Except for the expensive and limited sea cucumbers, Fu Yu prepared a little bit of every seafood.

For their own to eat, he was certainly more generous with the ingredients.

The water in the wok was already boiling.

Fu Yu added the rice that had been coated with oil.

The green line dutifully adhered to the edge of the wok, acting as a gauge.

There was still a small handful of rice left in the bowl, but Fu Yu stopped adding.

Zhao Meng frowned.

Under normal circumstances, he would remind him that adding a bit more rice wouldn’t affect the taste of the seafood porridge.

But with Yao Shi present and Gu Yunwu’s team watching the scene.

Zhao Meng decided to remain silent.

After all, disciplining in private and maintaining Fu Yu’s face had to be considered.

Usually, porridge is brought to a boil over high heat, then simmered over low heat.

And the most crucial part is stirring.

This is for making it thick.

That means making every grain of rice full and creamy.

When adding rice to boiling water, stir a few times, cover the pot, and simmer for 20 minutes, then stir continuously for about 10 minutes until it reaches the desired thickness.

So when Fu Yu used rice to make porridge and began blanching and cutting the prepared seafood, others just silently observed.

But as the water boiled, the soup turned murky, and the rice began to roll, Fu Yu didn’t immediately stir, instead, he used cold water to rinse the blanched seafood.

Was he too busy to manage?

Or had he just forgotten this part?

The rice soup was about to overflow from the pot!!!

The few watching suddenly got nervous.

Zhao Meng wanted to remind him but was stopped by a glare from Yao Shi.

Others willing to help saw this and immediately backed off.

Everyone realized this supper was clearly Yao Shi’s excuse to deal with Fu Yu.

Who dares to interfere when the boss wants to handle someone?

So everyone’s eyes focused on the wok about to overflow, watching the lid rise with steam and then settle, rise again, and settle down...

Almost everyone’s heart unknowingly hung high, bouncing with the lid’s movement.

But though it was boiling so vigorously, not a single drop of rice soup fell out!

Everyone collectively sighed internally: Damn! This isn’t logical!

Fu Yu, completely unaware of all this, calmly finished handling the seafood, placing it on a plate with an oil-free slotted spoon.

Turning around, he saw the rice soup about to overflow, so he adjusted the heat down.

The lid settled back securely.

Everyone’s hearts simultaneously eased, with even a faint sigh emanating from deep within.

Finally reassured.

Except Zhao Meng, Gu Yunwu, and Yao Shi, who all frowned.

Stir!

The most important aspect during porridge making, stirring, Fu Yu actually forgot it!

In the last ten minutes of cooking, stirring continuously is essential to ensure the porridge’s texture and creaminess.

But at this moment, Fu Yu was setting out bowls...

Zhao Meng’s face flushed with anxiety.

He had just pat his chest assuring that Fu Yu’s porridge-making skills were fine, only to be slapped in the face now!

This damn kid!

Too unreliable!!!

[Ding! NPC Chef Zhao Meng’s Favorability -10]

Fu Yu suddenly turned to Zhao Meng: Hey! What’s going on!!!!

He’s just cooking porridge, not doing anything wrong, why did he annoy Zhao Meng?
