THE GOD EATER

The deceiver was thoroughly convinced this time around. But he still smiled and said to the seer, “I am sure that you have a plan. So why don’t you stop trying to scare me and tell me what the plan is?”

He was waiting for the seer to take this as an opportunity to show off his intelligence and wisdom, but the seer sighed and said, “I am at my wits’ end.”

This made the deceiver frown and say, “You can’t be serious.”

But the deceiver still looked despondent as he said, “My original plan was to outrun him. That should have been easy to do because we were faster than him and could always tell where he was coming from, so we could avoid him and stay ahead of him.”

“But his speed suddenly increased, and he is now nearly twice as fast as we are. So we can’t outrun him.”

“Secondly, the two world guardians are flanking us right now and will have to fight them if we veer to the left or to the right. In that short time that they delay us, he could catch up to us.”

The deceiver became anxious as he said, “So what do we do? Do we just give up on the golden crown that we worked so hard to get? What will Ocelot think of us giving up after she died to help us get the crown?”

In response, the seer shook his head and said, “I am not willing to die in order to secure victory for the sect. Not that our death will necessarily mean victory for the sect. But I do have a plan that might work.”

The deceiver sighed in relief when he heard this. Then he said, “As long as you have a plan, it will be fine.”

But the seer glanced at him at the corner of his eyes and said with pessimism, “My plan might not work, though. In fact, the chances of it working are just 50%.”

“Personally, I don’t have much faith in it. And when I see it going awry, I will run away at the first opportunity I get to run.”

On the other side, the deceiver chuckled and said, “Don’t worry. As long as we give it our best, I will be willing to accept defeat if we are truly inferior.”

Then he sighed and said, “I just don’t want to give up without a fight. I have too much to gain and lose from this.”

This made the seer snort and say, “Who doesn’t have something to gain if we win? Why do you think I went through so much effort?”

The deceiver didn’t say anything in reply to these two questions. This was because there was nothing more to say. The two of them understood exactly how much was at stake here.

In the Nexus of Truth Sect, fighting capability is not appreciated. Not even skills are appreciated either. So the Nexus of Truth doesn’t use merits gained from killing to raise the Dao Status of their disciples like the Four Directions Sect does, and they don’t use skill level as the Myriad Phenomenon Sect does.

The system that the Nexus of Truth Sect relies on is similar to the one that the Martial Body Sect uses in that the Dao Status that is earned from it can be carried over through many lifetimes.

But the Nexus of Truth doesn’t rely on reputation for the promotion of Dao Status. What they use to promote the Dao Status of their disciples is the acquisition of new knowledge for those on the Truth Pathway and the recruitment of new disciples for those on the Secret Pathway.

So the more new and unique knowledge a seer knows, the higher their Dao Status will be. And the more people that the deceivers deceive into joining the sect, the higher their Dao Status will be.

With this kind of system, it is very important to these two that this small world falls under the control of the Nexus of Truth Sect. This is because this small world represents a fountain of new knowledge that the seer can learn while simultaneously being a large pool of personnel resources that the deceiver can deceive into joining the sect.

Of course, after the small world has fallen under their control, the seer still needs a lot of time to learn the knowledge of this world, and the deceiver still needs time to deceive the people of this world into joining the sect that was responsible for the invasion and conquest of their world.

But if they do a good job of this, they will earn a lot of merit points. They are even likely to earn enough to reach Level 6 Dao Status. This achievement is very important to them because it means that the Nexus of Truth Sect will help them advance to rank 6 if they can achieve it.

It can be said that only the Nexus of Truth Sect gives Level 6 Dao Status to its disciples and helps them become divine beings. No other sect in the Blessed Heaven World does this.

If they can achieve this Level 6 Dao Status and acquire a mutated Life Ability, their sect will help them advance. They don’t know why other sects don’t do this, but they know that this is an opportunity that they don’t dare to miss.

So securing victory in this Heavenly Battlefield is very important to the two of them. With this kind of motivation, the two of them moved around according to the plan of the seer.

They didn’t move around in a straight line away from the rank 4 forger anymore. Sometimes, they swerved right and other times, they swerved left.

Loki, who was following them doggedly, also found himself swerving right and left. The closer he got to them, the more he had to swerve to keep up with them. This made it so that his trail of pursuit had curved many times instead of being a straight line.
