Chapter 420: Chapter 248: Scratches on the Dead Person’s Hand

Wan nodded, trailing closely behind.

”Roger that, Captain, I’m moving forward immediately.”

He held the map tightly, sweat having soaked through most of it.

Then, the two continued to move forward.

Meanwhile, on the opposite riverbank, Jiang An and Zhang Yean were also drenched in sweat.

Zhang Yean wiped the sweat off her face, a mix of dust leaving streaks of mud on her cheeks.

She panted heavily, looking at the equally disheveled Jiang An beside her.

”Junior brother, do you think by walking along the river like this, we’ll be able to find the target?”

Jiang An glanced around; the once green river water had taken on a slight yellow hue, likely due to mud and sand.

Then he looked upstream, stretching and massaging his sore lower back.

”I looked at the map before we set off.”

”According to the map’s indicators, we’re less than five kilometers away from the nearest sluice gate.”

”Oh come on, less than five kilometers.”

”Are you saying five kilometers isn’t much?”

Zhang Yean looked back, her face showing an exaggerated expression of surprise.

Jiang An teased, ”Senior sister, you can see our vehicle parked on the bridge is completely out of sight.”

”It’s like looking back only to find you’ve crossed a thousand mountains!”

He made a rowing motion as he spoke, attempting to ease the fatigue from their journey.

Zhang Yean wiped the sweat from her forehead and smiled helplessly.

”Yes, you’re truly an extreme optimist.”

”But I don’t have as positive an outlook as you.”

”Luckily, I applied sunscreen before going out today.”

”Otherwise, I’d have been baked into charcoal by now.”

She said, touching her cheek as if checking if she’d gotten tanned.

Jiang An chuckled, ”Senior sister, I have a feeling that He Biao’s fall into the water isn’t far from here.”

Zhang Yean rubbed her waist and said in a serious tone, ”I hope your words bring us luck! Let’s hope we find the target soon.”

”Let’s move on; I think we can wrap up before sunset.”

As soon as she finished speaking, Jiang An took a couple of steps forward with Zhang Yean following closely.

Five minutes later, Jiang An froze as if rooted to the spot.

He abruptly stopped, his gaze hawk-like as he stared at a patch of grass in front of him.

It was at this moment that Zhang Yean suddenly realized.

She widened her eyes in surprise, slightly agape, ”Junior brother, what? Did you find something?”

Her voice was filled with uncontrollable excitement.

Jiang An hesitated for two seconds, a flicker of delight and certainty flashing in his eyes.

He nodded gently, saying, ”At present, this location is highly suspicious, and I think it’s possible.”

With that, Jiang An crouched down and carefully parted the grass.

His movements were as gentle as if touching a rare treasure, afraid of disturbing any trace at the scene.

Without time to think, Zhang Yean instantly rejoiced like a child.

She punched the air with both fists.

Though she hadn’t looked closely yet, she knew that based on Jiang An’s expertise, such a conclusion was absolutely reliable.

At this moment, Jiang An was both observing and contemplating.

His eyes scanned the grass like an X-ray, scrutinizing every inch and missing nothing.

The grass here was bent and overturned, and the bent area was extensive.

It extended about 1.5 meters from the riverbank upward.

The widespread flattened weeds differed significantly from the nests of overturned markings left by fishermen seen earlier.

After observing for two minutes, Zhang Yean asked softly, ”Could this place really be...?”

”It could be the spot where someone fell into the water,” Jiang An nodded lightly.

”From what we can see now, these weeds are flattened chaotically, and the traces are very apparent.”

”The key is, there isn’t just one flattened patch.”

”However, in my view, the more messy the distribution of weeds, the more it indicates chaotic movement at that time.”

He drew with his finger along the direction of the weeds’ collapse, as if reenacting the scene from that time.

Zhang Yean might not have Jiang An’s level of expertise.

However, she was also an expert in trace analysis.

Seeing the trace of the grass distribution in front of her, she nodded lightly.

”Indeed, I think what you’re saying makes a lot of sense.”

She crossed her arms, nodding slightly, her gaze full of agreement.

Then Jiang An pointed to the patch of grass in front of them.

After a brief pause, he said, ”The biggest difference between the bent grass here and the patches we saw earlier is that it extends all the way to the riverbank.”

”Earlier, I observed that the flattened weeds generally stayed a distance from the riverbank.”

”But here, there’s a sign the weeds tipped toward the water.”

”This clearly indicates a process of something slipping into the water.”

Following Jiang An’s pointing finger, Zhang Yean scrutinized closely.

Indeed, within sight, she noticed a very distinct scratch mark.

”This indeed is very clear!”

”The overturned sod hasn’t fully bounced back yet.”

Then, Jiang An crouched down, reached out his finger, and gently touched the scratch mark, feeling the depression in the sod, trying to imagine the force of impact at that moment.

Then Zhang Yean said again, ”You mean, this is the spot where He Biao was pushed into the water?”

After a long moment of thought, Jiang An said in a serious tone, ”All I can say for sure from these traces is that it might be a spot where someone fell into the water.”

”But whether it truly is a place where someone fell into the water still requires further verification.”

He put his hands in his pockets, a slight frown on his face, his gaze reflecting a sense of rigor and professionalism.

”Oh? And how will you verify?”

Zhang Yean slightly raised her head to look at Jiang An, her gaze filled with curiosity.
