The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 374: Chapter 226: Investigating the Scene

Under the tent of the barbecue stall, by the weak light.

The three of them noticed a subtle change in Captain Li Jian’s expression.

They all gently placed the half-finished bottles of cola on the table.

Wan’s eyes widened with surprise, and he urgently asked, ”Captain, what’s going on? Is his wife really a suspect?”

Zhang Yean scratched her head, her eyes filled with curiosity and doubt.

She followed up, asking, ”Could it really be as we suspected before, that due to illness and unbearable torment, he was murdered by his spouse?”

”But just now, we heard you say he only had six months left to live. Couldn’t she wait even these few short months?”

At this moment, Jiang An sat on a chair in the corner, leaning slightly forward, subconsciously shaking the cola bottle with his right hand.

The liquid inside swayed with his movements, mirroring the turmoil in his mind.

Jiang An understood clearly that, rationally speaking, listing the deceased’s wife as a suspect was not unreasonable.

But the odd thing was, even if the deceased was emaciated by late-stage liver cancer, silently killing him, especially in such a private setting at their home, was no easy feat.

In Jiang An’s view, it was nearly impossible for a weak woman to carry out such a cruel act alone.

Captain Li Jian nodded slightly, as if just coming back to his senses.

He put down his phone, took a sip of cola, Adam’s apple moving, and after a moment spoke: ”Just now, Captain Qin sent a message after investigating Wang Jianghe’s lover.”

”It seems that his lover has exhibited some unusual behavior, but the suspicion is not obvious.”

”Oh? So what exactly raised suspicion?”

Wan leaned forward, impatient to know the answer.

”During the entire investigation, Captain Qin noticed this woman had an inordinate interest in Wang Jianghe’s body, repeatedly insisting on taking the body home.”

Upon hearing this, Wan slapped his thigh and stood up abruptly: ”Oh, I thought it was some huge suspicion, turns out this is the reason.”

”Actually, thinking about it carefully, it can be understood.”

”We’re all ordinary people, always holding the thought of returning to our roots.”

”Especially in such tragic circumstances where the old send off the young, she wants her husband to be laid to rest sooner. At first glance, this request seems quite reasonable.”

Zhang Yean nodded in agreement and chimed in: ”Exactly, Captain.”

”From a woman’s perspective, cherishing her husband and hoping he finds peace is just a very ordinary thought, and from this alone, it seems there aren’t any flaws.”

Compared to their hasty speculation and conjectures, Jiang An appeared as if in deep meditation.

However, his brain was working like a high-speed precision instrument, rapidly recalling the whole process of examining the body.

At this moment, Jiang An’s brows were furrowed tightly, pondering secretly: This woman’s attachment to the body, could it be that there is a hidden key secret on the body that everyone has overlooked?

After a long while, Captain Li Jian broke the silence, his face serious as if water could drip from it, and he said in a deep voice: ”The possibility you mentioned is something I’ve pondered over repeatedly as well.”

”But I always believe that when something unusual happens, there must be something behind it.”

”We cannot let go of any clue, no matter how tiny or abnormal it might be.”

”Whenever we encounter an unnatural death, we must investigate it as a criminal case decisively like a leopard hunting, only then can we see the truth in its entirety.

”If this was a meticulously planned murder, then this woman’s various actions could just about be explained.”

”Conversely, if it were just a normal sickness leading to death, her eagerness to move the body also seems reasonable.

”Therefore, drawing conclusions about criminal intent based solely on his wife’s behavior cannot lead to an accurate conclusion.”

Upon hearing Captain Li Jian’s words, Wan, Jiang An, and Zhang Yean all nodded.

”Indeed, based on this alone, it’s difficult to determine if his wife is a suspect.”

Suddenly, Li Jian noticed Jiang An had been deeply absorbed in thought.

He turned and asked, ”Brother Jiang An, what were you just thinking so intently about?”

Jiang An turned his head, glanced at Captain Li, and slowly said, ”I was thinking, since his wife has always been so interested in the body.”

”Could it be that there’s something on the body that we haven’t yet discovered?”

Upon hearing this, Zhang Yean also turned around and said, ”But we just conducted a very thorough examination of the body.

”At the death scene, we had already conducted a preliminary survey of the body.”

”Back at the lab, we conducted an all-round examination.”

”Apart from finding some fractures in the skull, we didn’t spot anything unusual.”

Wan also jumped in to say: ”Exactly, I also feel like our previous examinations were thorough enough.”

”Apart from the bones missing from both upper limbs and the right thigh, we looked at all the other bones multiple times.”

Jiang An’s gaze was focused, his tone serious as he said: ”Precisely because of this, my mind is uneasy.”

”We must remember that the human body includes bones, muscles, blood vessels, nerves, and more. The rarer the clue, the more it haunts us.”

”Because the evidence we have is already scarce, and once lost, it is hard to recover.”

Li Jian listened, his brows furrowing deeply into a ”川” shape.

He expressed strong agreement, saying: ”Brother Jiang An, I completely agree with you.”
