The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 353: Chapter 217: Uneasy Even While Eating Barbecue (Part 2)

As he spoke, Mr. Li turned to his right and looked at Jiang An, his eyes full of admiration: ”The reason we’ve been able to achieve such excellent case-solving results and repeatedly win honors is fundamentally because of Jiang An!”

”Although he is the youngest officer in our criminal investigation team, his thinking is the most active, and he’s the one I appreciate the most.”

”His way of thinking in criminal investigation and case-solving breaks norms and transcends them.”

”Just take the case we’ve just solved. We all thought it was alcohol poisoning that caused the death, but Jiang An himself started from the role of forensic medicine, examined the corpse, found the case’s doubtful points, and finally captured the highly capable murderer from the textile factory.”

”The key is, in this case, we’ve not only solved it and brought justice to the two deceased, but we’ve also saved the lives of three other young people.”

”If we had delayed another half-year or a few months on this case, it could’ve possibly triggered several malicious cases.”

”So, I feel that today, on one hand, is our criminal investigation team’s gathering activity, uniting everyone together; on the other hand, it’s also to celebrate having an outstanding talent like Jiang An join our criminal investigation team.”

”As the team leader, I feel deeply honored.”

”Today’s barbecue is a double celebration; it’s both for the collective success celebration and a celebration for our brother Jiang An.”

”Come, I propose, let’s lift our glasses and celebrate this glorious period together!”

”Cheers!” Everyone responded in unison, a crisp sound of clinking metal resounded, as they raised their heads and took a deep gulp of beer.

Setting down their cans and taking a few bites of barbecue, Mr. Li turned to Jiang An with a smile and said, ”Brother Jiang An, as the youngest, most accomplished, and most appreciated member of our criminal investigation team, say a few words.”

Hearing this, a humble smile appeared on Jiang An’s lips, yet he felt a bit uneasy inside.

After all, everyone present was a senior, with much richer experience in criminal investigation and case-solving than him. Would talking about case-solving in front of them seem like showing off one’s own skill before a master?

But since Mr. Li named him to speak, how could he refuse?

He stood up slowly, picked up the can, swept his gaze across Mr. Li and the other members of the criminal investigation team, and sincerely said, ”Mr. Li, dear teammates, and all the seniors in the criminal investigation team, I feel honored to have the opportunity to work with you all in this team.”

”Travel a thousand miles, investigate worldwide, this has been the belief I’ve upheld since starting work in criminal investigation.”

”I always believe that criminal investigation is of paramount importance, as it’s the key tool in safeguarding the peace and maintaining social order. I am especially glad to join this warm family of the criminal investigation team.”

Pausing for a moment, Jiang An continued: ”Mr. Li was really flattering just now.”

”Actually, every achievement is the result of everyone working together and striving together. Each of us plays a different role in this team, but the impact is equally important, all for the purpose of solving cases.”

”Finally, I hope that under the leadership of Mr. Li, our criminal investigation team will solve more cases, catch more culprits, and make greater contributions to combating crime and maintaining social stability.”

Mr. Li listened with a gratified smile on his face, he excitedly said: ”Alright, let’s drink together, and strive towards the goal Jiang An just wished for!”

Following that, Mr. Fu, Mr. Qin, and the other members of the investigation team exchanged toasts, making the atmosphere extraordinarily lively.

At this barbecue gathering, Mr. Li, Mr. Fu, and Mr. Qin received the most toasts, and everyone showed lots of love for Jiang An, this outstanding young colleague, all hoping to lend a hand in his future career development.

Perhaps due to the continuous case-handling and the rare opportunity to relax, or maybe it was because today was the weekend, everyone’s mood was particularly happy, and soon, four cases of beer were finished.

Seeing this, Mr. Li turned to Wang and said: ”Wang, you accompany Xiaolan to the supermarket next door to buy a few more cases of beer.”

Wan, who was feeling quite merry as well, glanced over and saw the floor littered with empty bottles, so he promptly agreed: ”No problem, I’ll go right away.”

Just as Wan stood up to leave, Mr. Qin, slightly intoxicated, staggered to his feet and said with a slurred tongue: ”Come on, let’s buy together, I’ll get some spirits too, we’re all happy today, let’s enjoy it!”

”Big brother, can you handle it?” Wan asked worriedly.

”No problem, it’s not work hours from Monday to Friday, it’s rare for the investigation team to gather together. Let’s go, Xiaolan, drive, we’ll head there together.” Mr. Qin said, waving and calling.

Not far out, after just twenty meters, Mr. Qin stumbled over a pit, suddenly lost his balance, and fell forward, landing heavily on his backside.

”Thud”, a dull sound rang out, Wan and Xiaolan heard it and quickly turned around to see Mr. Qin sitting awkwardly on the ground.

”Mr. Qin, are you alright?” Wan and Xiaolan hurried over, asking anxiously.

”I’m fine, just when I sat down, a branch poked my backside, it hurt like hell,” Mr. Qin grimaced and reached back to feel it.

”Indeed, that branch was quite hard,” Mr. Qin added while rubbing his behind.

Wan and Xiaolan helped Mr. Qin up, Wan instinctively glanced at where Mr. Qin had been sitting, puzzled: ”Where’s the branch?”

”Isn’t it? Can’t be, it pierced my backside just now,” Mr. Qin also looked down.

Wan squinted and noticed a curved bone on the ground.

His heart skipped a beat, an ominous premonition arose, he squatted down to examine it carefully.

Xiaolan also looked down, puzzled: ”What’s up? In the wilderness, it should be the bone of a wild animal, right?”

Wan stared at the bone, his brows knitted, his expression grew increasingly solemn, after a moment, he abruptly raised his head, his face filled with horror, and said: ”No, I feel this isn’t an animal bone, why does it look like a human bone I’ve seen in the dissection room?”

Hearing this, fear instantly flashed across Xiaolan’s face, her complexion turned pale, her eyes widened, staring at Wan fixedly, her voice trembled: ”Senior, you must be joking with me, right? This wilderness is full of animals, isn’t it normal to have animal bones?”

Wan forced a smile, trying to soothe Xiaolan: ”Scared you, huh? I was just saying it casually, it should be an animal bone, I was joking with you just now.”

”However, to be on the safe side, I’d better call over Jiang An and the others to have a look.”

Saying this, he immediately stood up and shouted loudly: ”Brother Jiang An!”

Over there, Jiang An had just finished a drink with Mr. Li, suddenly heard Wan’s shout, hurriedly turned and asked: ”What’s up?”

”There’s a bone over here, can you check if it’s human or animal?” Wan replied urgently.

Mr. Li and Jiang An’s smiles froze instantaneously, they exchanged a glance and both saw worry in each other’s eyes.

Soon, Jiang An set down his beer cup, strode over, and the others also put down their food, gathering around to see what was going on.

Jiang An came beside Wan, squatted down, took out a pair of disposable gloves he used for barbecue from his pocket and put them on, carefully picked up the bone, which was curved, and the color was somewhat dull.

He observed it for a while, his face growing increasingly grim, he raised his head, shock in his eyes: ”Mr. Li, this is a human rib, the fourth left rib.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Mr. Li and the others looked around, they only saw an endless flat grassland, not any signs of a burial ground.

In an instant, the air seemed to freeze, and everyone realized that this originally joyful barbecue gathering might be thoroughly disrupted by this abrupt bone, and what they would face could be yet another challenging case...
