The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 357: Chapter 219: The Pressure on the Criminal Investigation Captain

After Mr. Liu’s group left, Li Jian slightly raised his eyebrows, his gaze swiftly flicking to Jiang An like a hawk.

Immediately, he asked, ”Jiang An, brother, how’s the scene investigation preparedness?”

Jiang An was squatting on the ground organizing tools. Upon hearing the question, he promptly stood up.

Pulling the zipper of his autopsy suit, it zipped up with a ”whoosh” to the top, he replied, ”Captain, everything here is ready.”

”Just now, I took a good look, the smell in the bushes is really pungent, feels like it could knock a person out.”

”It’s better to operate while wearing autopsy suits, saves us some trouble.”

Li Jian nodded slightly, his eyes showing appreciation for professionalism, he said, ”That’s right, forensic autopsy suits are to ensure our own cleanliness and safety, they’re essential for field investigations, can’t be slacked on at critical moments.”

Jiang An nodded again, putting on gloves, then turned to look around at Zhang Yean and Wan and others.

Zhang Yean silently put on a mask, only letting out a grunt from her nose, ”I’m good here too.”

Wan seemed like a warrior heading to a battlefield of life and death, his face flushed red.

He waved his hand forcefully, shouting, ”Let’s go, gotta face it sooner or later!”

His demeanor suggested as if they were facing a group of fierce enemies rather than a corpse ahead.

Li Jian’s lips twitched, commenting, ”Why is this like heading to battle, it’s just a scene investigation!”

Wan stepped forward briskly, with large paces: Brother, you have no idea how strong the smell is in there!”

”It feels like there’s a biochemical weapon there, gives you a headache.”

”Does it smell?”

Li Jian shrugged, looking indifferent, ”Sorry, I’ve got severe rhinitis, can’t smell any stench, considered blessed by misfortune.”

Wan’s eyes immediately lit up, giving a thumbs up, admiringly said, ”Boss, that’s brilliant! Comes with a personal protection system, why don’t I have this ’special ability’?”

Just then, Jiang An said softly, ”Let’s go! Start the scene investigation.”

In an instant, the four of them, like warriors about to step into danger, donned gloves, wore protective suits, and carefully walked down towards the valley.

Walking down from the slope, the four kept their steps light, each step felt like walking on thin ice, cautiously.

Admittedly, the slope was slippery, filled with grass, a moment of carelessness could result in a tumble.

Just twenty meters took them nearly fifteen minutes to reach the destination.

Seeing the three had safely arrived near the corpse, Li Jian stood at the top of the slope, shouting aloud, ”Hey, give me an autopsy suit, I’m going down to take a look too.”

Mr. Fu lifted his head to glance at him, advising, ”Mr. Li, why don’t you stay up there, the smell below is pretty strong, don’t let it harm you.”

”No problem.” Li Jian patted his chest, ”We’ve been doing criminal investigation for so many years, never backed off from highly decomposed corpses before, especially today with protective gear, it’s not like I’m going down naked, scared of what!”

Seeing Li Jian insist on going down himself, Mr. Fu and Mr. Qin exchanged a glance, a hint of helplessness flashed in their eyes.

Then, they reluctantly said, ”Alright, we’ll follow the captain down to take a look.”

At this point, Jiang An had reached the bottom of the valley, standing next to the disfigured corpse.

Despite wearing a thick mask, waves of foul odor continued to invade his nostrils.

The smell seemed alive, desperately trying to penetrate his nasal defenses.

He fought against the discomfort, furrowing his brows, his gaze sharply focused on the corpse.

Looking at the scene, the deceased lay supine on the ground, the clothing on the body sagged like a deflated skin.

The clothes were severely torn in places, underneath, the arms and left leg were already missing, the jagged cuts looked horrifying.

Beside him, Wan glanced down, his eyes widened instantly, exclaiming in shock, ”What happened? Was this person dismembered?”

Jiang An was deep in thought, various clues and possibilities tangled in his mind, not responding.

Nonetheless, Zhang Yean nearby, furrowing her brow into a ’chuan’ character, speculated, ”Maybe animals gnawed and took them away.”

”This desolate wilderness, with rampant beasts, such situations aren’t unusual.”

Wan lightly shook his head, his facial muscles twitching due to fear, clicked his tongue, ”Gosh, this tragic sight, left exposed to the wild, looks too cruel.”

”If the victim’s family saw this, they would be heartbroken.”

Just as Jiang An was diving deeper into contemplation, Li Jian cautiously walked over from the steep slope, glancing at the corpse.

His eyebrows knitted instantly, he frowned, ”The body is so incomplete, this complicates things.”

”It’s like a puzzle missing critical pieces, restoring the truth will take quite the effort.”

Following him, Mr. Qin and deputy team leader also showed difficulty in their expressions.

The two exchanged a glance, both seeing helplessness and pressure in each other’s eyes.

Originally a joyful outdoor barbecue, everyone hoped to relax and enjoy delicacies in nature’s embrace.

But now, everything disrupted by this corpse, like a beautiful dream crushed ruthlessly.

Li Jian turned towards Jiang An, eyes filled with anticipation and trust, asked, ”Can the time of death be determined?”

Jiang An squatted down, his movements slow and cautious, using his gloved index finger to gently sweep away the dense maggots on the corpse, those maggots wriggled grotesquely in the sunlight, repulsive.
