The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 371: Chapter 224: Major Breakthrough in the Case (Part 2)

Mr. Qin kept an eye on the woman’s expression while he was talking to her.

Besides sadness, he noticed nothing suspicious.

Finally, Mr. Qin said gravely, ”Since the investigation of this case has just begun, we’d like you to come in for a statement.”

The woman nodded quickly, ”No problem, but I have some poultry at home. I’ll take care of them and come over. Does that work for you?”

”Okay, no problem, leave a number and come to the investigation team as soon as possible to give a statement.”

”We will also expedite the identification of the deceased’s features to see if it is indeed Wang Jianghe,” Mr. Qin said.

The woman nodded again, ”Thank you so much. I’ll deal with my stuff and come right over.”

Soon after, Mr. Qin and Xiaolan took the photos and left Xinghua Village in their police car.

Meanwhile, Mr. Fu and another officer, Chen Chen, arrived at the Jiangcheng Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Following the previous investigation pattern at the People’s Hospital, Chen Chen entered the medical records department.

He said, ”Hello, I’m with the Jiangcheng Criminal Investigation Team, and I’m here to collect records of cancer patients treated at your hospital in the last six months.”

The young man at the window nodded and asked, ”Sure. Would you like copies of all medical records or just simple discharge certificates?”

Having learned from past experience, Mr. Fu said seriously, ”If we only copy discharge certificates, how many pages will there be for each patient?”

The young man thought for a moment and replied, ”There should be only one page per patient, at most two.”

”Alright then, we’ll just copy a single discharge certificate,” Mr. Fu concluded.

Soon, the young man typed the filter criteria into the computer.

About 5 minutes later, he turned around and said, ”In the past six months, there have been a total of 157 cancer patients hospitalized at our facility.”

The accompanying officer was taken aback and murmured, ”That’s even more than at the People’s Hospital.”

”But in my memory, the People’s Hospital had a higher level of medical expertise, didn’t it?”

Mr. Fu turned his head and explained, ”Many people are initially willing to seek Western medicine, but when life is in imminent danger and Western treatments prove ineffective, they’ll be more inclined to trust traditional medicine.”

The young man at the window nodded in agreement, ”Absolutely, our Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital focuses on regulating the body, so many patients with terminal cancer prefer to come here for treatment.”

Next, the sound of printing echoed from the printer.

At this moment, Mr. Fu’s phone rang, showing an incoming call from Li Jian.

He answered the call, ”Mr. Li.”

”Mr. Fu, where are you right now?”

”We’re at the Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, retrieving cancer patients’ medical records.”

”Thanks for your hard work. By the way, I have some good news—the deceased’s identity is starting to become clearer.”

”We’ve discovered a missing person, Wang Jianghe, age 37.”

Li Jian’s voice carried a hint of delight.

After hearing this, Mr. Fu muttered to himself, ”Wang Jianghe? So soon?”

Then he said into the phone, ”So there’s no need to retrieve all the medical records.”

”Focus on whether there’s a patient named Wang Jianghe.”

”Also, according to his family, Wang Jianghe was diagnosed with late-stage liver cancer half a year ago, so the investigation should be easier now.”

Upon hearing Mr. Fu mention Wang Jianghe’s name, the young man at the window turned around and said, ”Officer, there’s a patient in the liver surgery department named Wang Jianghe, 37 years old, residing in Xinghua Village.”

”It’s him!”

Mr. Fu exclaimed excitedly, ”Mr. Li, coincidentally, we’ve found records of Wang Jianghe visiting the Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital at the window.”

On the other end, Captain Li Jian was overjoyed, ”Wow! Is today’s luck through the roof?”

”You and the other deputy captain are amazing! This has pushed our case forward significantly.”

Receiving the captain’s praise, Mr. Fu smiled and nodded, ”It’s all thanks to your leadership, Captain.”

”I’ll now focus on reviewing Wang Jianghe’s treatment history here, to examine his disease diagnosis and medical procedures.”

”Okay, go ahead and keep me updated on any findings.”

After Li Jian finished speaking, he hung up the phone.

Mr. Fu sighed deeply, thinking: Jiangcheng has no less than ten private and public hospitals.

If the investigation had proceeded at its original pace, it would barely be in its beginning stages now.

Fortunately, Li Jian has already identified the suspected deceased’s name.

He eagerly turned to the young man at the window and said, ”My young friend, please print all outpatient records and hospitalization details for Wang Jianghe.”

The young man glanced at him and replied, ”No problem.”

”However, this may take some time; I need to speak with the hospital’s outpatient department.”

”Alright, we’ll wait.”

”Do you still want the copies from earlier?”

”No, but I’ll pay for the copies,” Mr. Fu added.

”It’s not necessary, those few pages aren’t expensive,” said the young man cheerfully.

Seeing the young man’s pleasant demeanor, Mr. Fu smiled along with Chen Chen and said, ”Thank you, young friend. May you stay safe throughout your life.”

”We appreciate your efforts in this case.”

Next, the young man at the window dialed the outpatient department’s phone and said, ”Please help me check records for Wang Jianghe, 37 years old, residing in Xinghua Village.”

”Compile a list of all registration records for this patient and send it to my work email.”

Three minutes later, the computer emitted a ”ding” sound.

The young man opened the transferred registration record and turned to Mr. Fu, saying, ”Officer, after our initial inquiry, this patient named Wang Jianghe first came to our hospital for treatment six months ago. After his outpatient visit, he was hospitalized for two weeks. Subsequently, he returned for monthly follow-ups.”

”Monthly follow-ups? Were they with the same doctor each time?” Mr. Fu asked.

The young man shook his head, ”No, but primarily with doctors from the Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary department.”

”Okay, what was the most recent appointment date?”

The young man glanced down, ”The tenth of this month, but it’s shown as not registered, meaning he didn’t come for treatment.”

Mr. Fu and Chen Chen listened thoughtfully.

Finally, Mr. Fu nodded lightly, ”Thank you, please print Wang Jianghe’s complete medical records and all his consultation details for me.”

At this moment, Li Jian walked out of the forensic lab, feeling particularly elated.

His steps were light and no longer sluggish from earlier fatigue.

Finding the identity in cases involving anonymous corpses is like solving half of the case.

Further backed by Jiang An, an efficient assistant, it was certainly a great advantage.

Soon, it was 5 o’clock in the afternoon. Wang Jianghe’s spouse arrived at the investigation team, trembling.

At this time, Mr. Qin was already waiting at the investigation team’s entrance.

The woman saw Mr. Qin and quickly apologized, ”I’m sorry, Mr. Qin, I couldn’t catch a cab on the way here, sorry for the delay.”

Mr. Qin said warmly, ”No worries, we’re the ones inconveniencing you.”

”We should have gone to your home for questioning, but this is the procedure, and we hope you understand.”

”I understand, completely.”

”If you could find Jianghe’s remains sooner, it would be a comfort to us.”

”Could you tell me when I can retrieve his remains? I wish to bury him promptly,” the woman asked, her eyes filled with hope.

Mr. Qin patiently explained, ”Please wait, we’re conducting identification.”

”For now, we only suspect it’s your husband, Wang Jianghe, based on clothing. The final conclusion depends on scientific comparison results.”

The woman nodded and then followed Mr. Qin into the interrogation room.
