The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 365: Chapter 222: No Toxins in the Soil?

”This case is too bizarre, like a knot that can’t be untangled.”

Zhang Yean scratched her head, resembling a confused little deer, and echoed, ”Yeah, it’s too strange.”

”If the victim was attacked under normal circumstances, with no fractures in the face, eye sockets, or mouth, could it be he just stood there and took the beating?”

”This doesn’t make any sense, it feels like we’ve hit a dead end.”

Jiang An narrowed his eyes slightly, like a sage deep in thought, as scenes from the crime scene played out like a movie in his mind.

A moment later, he slowly spoke, ”I think the message from Li Ming in the lab should be correct.”

Zhang Yean looked surprised, as if she had seen something unbelievable.

”Oh? You also think the result is reliable?”

”This is puzzling, what have you discovered that we haven’t?”

Jiang An nodded solemnly, ”During the scene investigation, I noticed many husks of molted flies next to the body.”

”If the body had been poisoned before death, the flies wouldn’t survive, let alone lay eggs and have maggots.”

”This is a clue from nature, it doesn’t lie.”

Hearing this, Zhang Yean gently held her chin, like a philosopher deep in thought, and said thoughtfully, ”Now that you mention it, I remember.”

”My forensic teacher in college said that if a body is poisoned, even in summer, flies won’t lay eggs on it, and even if they do, no maggots would hatch.”

”This knowledge really comes in handy at critical moments.”

Her eyes glowed with a sense of nostalgia, as if transported back to a college lecture, where once-distant knowledge now became the sword to solve the mystery.

Wan raised his hand to touch his chin, similarly lost in thought.

”From your analysis, it seems the victim really wasn’t poisoned.”

”But this is strange, if he wasn’t poisoned, why didn’t he resist? Isn’t this contradictory?”

”It feels like falling into a bottomless pit, the more I think about it, the more confused I get.”

Saying this, his eyes reflected confusion and perplexity, as if the complex case had him spinning in circles.

Zhang Yean inquisitively asked, ”Yes, is it possible he did resist, but the wounds from resisting are on the sides of his arms, like caused by sharp objects that led to bleeding?”

Jiang An shook his head resolutely, explaining with determined eyes, ”I don’t think that’s very likely.”

”The victim suffered a blunt force trauma to the head, which, to some extent, is a typical sign of blunt force injury.”

”In most cases, it’s rare for a perpetrator to switch weapons midway through an attack.”

”Moreover, the victim had a cervical dislocation due to the blunt force impact, indicating the force was severe enough to be fatal, so there was no need to use a sharp object.”

”Even if a sharp object was used, any change in body position would likely cause facial bashing, and the teeth would certainly be the first to be damaged.”

”But I just carefully examined the victim’s teeth, especially the front teeth, and they’re perfectly intact, which contradicts what you’d expect in a struggle.”

”So, this hypothesis doesn’t hold up.”

Jiang An’s analysis was thorough and detailed, like a brilliantly executed deduction show, which left the other two frequently nodding their heads.

Zhang Yean was convinced.

She was a top student back in school, and hearing Jiang An’s analysis brought memories of her professors’ lectures back to mind.

She seemed to have found the lost direction, eyes filled with admiration.

After a while, Zhang Yean asked curiously again, ”If the victim wasn’t poisoned, what could have prevented him from resisting?”

”This question is like a Damocles’ sword hanging above, unresolved and making it hard to sleep.”

As she spoke, her eyes expressed a longing for the truth, as if tormented by this unsolved mystery, keeping her awake and uneasy.

Wan chimed in, ”Yeah, a normal person faced with danger would surely fight desperately, especially when it concerns life and death. How could anyone comply willingly? It goes against human nature, there must be something hidden here.”

Just then, an idea flashed like lightning in Jiang An’s mind, and with sudden inspiration, he raised his volume, saying, ”Hey, what if there was more than one perpetrator involved in the crime?”

”More than one perpetrator?”

Zhang Yean and Wan exclaimed in unison, as if they had heard an earth-shattering secret.

Their eyes widened, and their gaze shifted back and forth between Jiang An and the skeleton, as if trying to find answers from them.

Meanwhile, Mr. Qin was leading a team conducting an investigation at the 110 Command Center in Jiangcheng.

The 110 Command Center in Jiangcheng gathers all police reports from the city.

Anyone who made a police report within the city in the past period has their information recorded in detail and handled promptly.

At this moment, in a bright and spacious office,

Mr. Qin, like a seasoned war veteran, sat across the office desk, holding a teacup, with his face slightly flushed.

Xiaolan, standing beside him, softly said, ”Mr. Qin, would you like me to get you a mask? After all, this is still a workplace.”

Mr. Qin waved his hand dismissively, ”No need, it’s Saturday night, we’re working overtime for the case.”

”Though it’s not by the book, special circumstances call for special treatment, and it’s just this once. Normally, we work regular hours from Monday to Friday.”

Mr. Li, sitting opposite, like an understanding old friend, laughed and eased the tension, ”Xiaolan, don’t worry, I’ve been partners with Mr. Qin for many years.”

”It’s Saturday, a little drink doesn’t hurt, plus you rushed back for the task at hand to help solve the case.”
