The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 372: Chapter 225: She’s a Bit Suspicious!

In the interrogation room of the Jiangcheng Criminal Investigation Team.

Mr. Qin looked stern as he deftly turned on the synchronized audio and video recording system.

Then, he slightly turned his body and gestured invitingly with his hand.

”Don’t be nervous, just sit here.”

Once the woman sat down, he said in a low voice, ”Though this place is usually for interrogations, today we’ve invited you purely for some routine inquiries, no hidden agenda.”

”In criminal investigation, no matter how obvious something looks, we can’t skip any part of the verification process.”

”If your husband really passed away due to an accident or suicide, we will certainly uncover the truth and let him rest in peace sooner.”

”If there’s any shadow of foul play, the culprit will surely be caught, and we will bring justice to light.”

The woman stood nervously aside, her hands clasped uneasily.

Upon hearing this, she quickly nodded, eyes filled with gratitude: ”Thank you all so much, sorry for the trouble.”

”You’re welcome, this is our duty.”

After Mr. Qin finished speaking, he turned to Zhang, nodding slightly, ”Let’s get started.”

”It’s getting late; let’s aim to finish early so she can also go home sooner.”

”Oh, right, if it ends late and there’s no shuttle back to Xinghua Village, we’ll drive you back in the police car.”

Zhang also nodded in agreement and said, ”Rest assured, we’ll definitely be quick.”

The woman thanked them again repeatedly.

Mr. Qin sat upright, casting a gentle gaze toward the woman, and began the inquiry: ”First, please state your name, age, and address.”

”My name is Wang Shantao, I’m 36 years old, and I live in Xinghua Village.”

”When did you and Wang Jianghe get married?”

”More than ten years ago.”

”And you never had children?”

At the mention of this, the woman lowered her head slightly, speaking with some shyness, ”I became pregnant soon after getting married, but the fetus was unhealthy and miscarried. Since then, I haven’t been able to conceive again.”

Mr. Qin nodded gently, a hint of sympathy flashing in his eyes, and continued to ask, ”What exactly were you and Wang Jianghe doing previously?”

”We ran a fruit stall in town and occasionally wholesaled cigarettes and alcohol.”

”Please talk about your husband, Wang Jianghe.”

Wang Shantao took a deep breath as if to muster courage to face those painful memories.

She slowly began, ”Half a year ago, Jianghe suddenly had an upset stomach.”

”At first, we didn’t think much of it and went to a small clinic, took some medicine, and the pain eased a bit.”

”But his complexion was waxy yellow, which worried me, so I accompanied him to Jiangcheng Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine to see the gastroenterology department.”

”In the end, the doctor recommended transferring to the hepatobiliary surgery department. After an examination, it turned out to be advanced liver cancer.”

”What special treatment was taken at that time?”

Mr. Qin frowned slightly, listening intently.

”The doctor said it was already advanced, with a risk of local spreading, and there was basically no definitive cure.”

”Later, many drug therapies were used, mainly to relieve pain and extend life somewhat.”

The woman’s eyes slightly reddened and her voice choked up.

”Did the doctor estimate how long he might live at most?”

”They said no more than half a year.”

The woman sighed and continued, ”From then on, Jianghe became exceedingly pessimistic, several times expressing to me his thoughts of suicide.”

”With liver cancer the pain is excruciating; he often woke up in pain in the middle of the night.”

The woman raised a hand to wipe away the tears at the corner of her eyes.

”You just mentioned his parents are both old. Are there any other relatives?”

”He has an aged grandmother in the countryside.”

”After he fell ill, he even made a special visit to see her. Knowing his condition, he thought of leaving but couldn’t bear to upset his grandmother, so he held back.”

”However, in the past one or two months, he often talked to me about wanting to leave.”

Mr. Qin listened while jotting down notes in his notebook and asked, ”When was the most recent incident of disappearance?”

”What was the situation at that time?”

”On the 11th, he had breakfast that morning and said he wanted to go for a walk, but he didn’t come back for a long time, and I couldn’t reach him on the phone.”

”What things did he take with him when he left?”

”Just his phone and keys, nothing unusual.”

”Why do you suspect he disappeared?”

”Usually he answers his phone, but that day I called multiple times and no one picked up, which made me panic, so I reported it to the police that evening.”

”When he left home, what brand was the phone he took?”

”Just an ordinary domestic smartphone.”

”After the disappearance, did you search around?”

”Yes, I did.”

”I even mobilized friends to help search, but after looking everywhere, we didn’t find a trace of him.”

Mr. Qin’s eyes flashed as if catching a clue, asking, ”Did you search around Phoenix Mountain?”

”We have, when we were dating, we often went there for barbecues.”

”However, we haven’t been in the past two years, given our age, we lacked the leisure desire.”

The woman seemed to suddenly realize something, her eyes widened, asking, ”Was his body found there?”

Mr. Qin did not respond directly, merely nodding thoughtfully, quietly planning his next direction of inquiry.

Meanwhile.

Huang from the Criminal Investigation Team ran quickly to deliver materials for skull reconstruction to the forensic laboratory.

Almost simultaneously, Xiaolan hurriedly arrived, handing a photo to Jiang An: ”Mr. Jiang, this is the photo of Wang Jianghe from when he was alive that Mr. Qin asked me to give to you.”

Jiang An, wearing medical gloves, was focused on tinkering with the skull on the experimental table.

Upon hearing this, he lifted his eyes towards Zhang Yean nearby, saying, ”Senior sister, please keep it for me; I’m busy doing something right now.”

He glanced at the photo briefly, frowning slightly, ”It looks like an ID photo. If it could be enlarged, it would be more convenient for computer comparison later.”
