Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1041: Chapter 1041: He’s Not That Kind of Person

Sweeping the rooftops, making tofu, steaming buns, frying New Year cakes, all these tasks typical of traditional festivals were already on the schedule, with every household busily engaged.

The village children were playing outside, each holding a stick of incense and setting off firecrackers everywhere!

The festive atmosphere was growing increasingly strong.

An Hao stood in the courtyard, looking up at the grey sky, estimating that a heavy snowfall was already brewing.

An Ping, drenched in sweat from stoking the fire with a bellows in the kitchen all morning, came out for air and saw An Hao standing in the yard lost in thought.

”Sis, how come you’re back by yourself? Where’s my brother-in-law?” An Ping asked.

”He’s off on a mission! It might be a long time?” An Hao didn’t know exactly when he would be able to return.

In her previous life, she was dealing with a divorce from Qin Jian around this time of year.

As a couple, they were living separately; An Hao at her parents’ home, Qin Jian in the military. Could it be that this New Year they would still be in the same situation?

”What kind of mission are they on, sis? You’re joking, right?” An Ping, although not in the army himself, knew that being a soldier meant going to war!

The He Ping era had no wars to fight! Thus, the army’s missions were all about training!

Even if there were missions to carry out, there were the armed police forces! Oh, right, this year the country also established special forces units!

This meant that the distribution of military tasks became even more clear.

Infantry units like theirs were for training, participating in military exercises, preparing for any potential future wars.

As for other tasks, anything dangerous, it was now the special forces’ job to handle them!

An Ping rambled on and on, leaving An Hao exasperated, ”Look at you, knowing so much! Even more than me! What’s the point of telling me all this?”

An Ping made a silly face at her, joking, ”Could it be my brother-in-law has found a new love in the army because you’re so fierce and not gentle at all?”

”Get lost! Keep talking nonsense, and see if I don’t beat you to death!” An Hao shouted angrily and gave An Ping a couple of slaps, ”My brother-in-law is not that kind of person! Keep slandering him, and I’ll make sure it’s the end of you!”

”A girl’s outer appearance, ah! A girl’s outer appearance!” An Ping yelled back at An Hao, rubbing his sore shoulders from the slap.

”You deserve the beating! Now get back here and help me make tofu!” An Shuchao’s voice roared from the kitchen.

..............................

Making tofu in the morning, steaming buns in the afternoon had worn An Shuchao out,

After dinner, An Shuchao went to bed early.

As An Hao was tidying up the pots and pans, An Ping passed by the kitchen and said, ”Sis, I’m going out for a walk!”

”Going for a walk in the middle of the night? Why?” An Hao asked.

”I’m stuffed from eating so much!” An Ping dropped the phrase and left.

”That’s not logical!” An Hao muttered to herself.

The kid was too lazy to move after eating, either lying down or slouching over; he had never mentioned going for a walk before.

His offering to go for a walk today was far too out of the ordinary.

An Hao grabbed a towel to dry her hands, untied her apron, threw it near the stove in the kitchen, and then left.

She wanted to see where the boy would go in the dead of night and whether he was up to no good.

An Hao followed at a safe distance, watched as An Ping’s pace quickened, until he met up with Erzhuzi and Liu Xiaolian and hopped into Erzhuzi’s vehicle, leaving with the two of them.

Who knows where he went to hang out!
