Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 580: Chapter 579 A Nightmare

”Dad, I don’t want to leave either! Please! Give Mom and me a chance to correct our mistakes!” Yang Erxiu pleaded as she clung to Dahe’s legs, starting to cry.

Dahe struggled to control his emotions. After a long while, his eyes reddening, he said, ”This is your last chance! If you don’t change, don’t blame me! My life has already been ruined by you! I can’t let you ruin my son’s life too!”

”I promise! I promise!”

.................................

An Hao’s fever flared up again, the burning fire in her heart raged even fiercer.

Burning hot all over, her brain felt as if it were in chaos, and she began to dream hazily.

In her dream, she saw herself standing on the rooftop of the twelfth floor, with pitch-black cement below her feet. The wind howled past her ears, and her slender figure swayed perilously in mid-air.

”Jump! Once you jump, everything will be over!” This voice was so familiar; she seemed to have heard it somewhere before.

She looked around blankly but couldn’t find a single person.

Was she dreaming of her past life again, when she attempted suicide? The same dark night, the same wind, the same heavy rain...

Her feet started to inch forward slowly; just one small step and she would fall.

Don’t... don’t jump...

Deep in her heart, An Hao told herself she could not jump. She still had Qin Jian, she still had her father and brother... she couldn’t jump!

”An Hao... An Hao...” It sounded like Qin Jian’s voice coming from another world.

An Hao stopped in her tracks and looked around.

It seemed that everything had changed. The high-rise building had turned into flat ground, and the stormy night had suddenly cleared into a sunny sky.

She and Qin Jian stood hand in hand behind Zhang Yun, smiling as she picked fresh vegetables in the market.

”Jianzi...” Qin Ru Hai’s voice suddenly appeared.

She turned to look and saw Qin Ru Hai carrying a bag of freshly picked sour dates. When Qin Jian looked at him, he walked over briskly and handed the sour dates to Qin Jian.

”Have your mom try these. They’re grown in our own mountains.”

Qin Jian smiled and pointed to Zhang Yun, saying, ”Dad, you should go. There are some things you want to face by yourself, right?”

Qin Ru Hai nodded, took a deep breath, and walked towards Zhang Yun.

Then, a piercing screech of brakes was heard. An Hao turned in shock, only to see sour dates falling all around and Qin Ru Hai lying in a pool of blood...

Red... the whole world was vivid red...

Blood spread to An Hao’s feet, and she quickly stepped back.

When she looked up again, the scene had returned to the rooftop of the twelfth floor, and An Hao started to break out in a cold sweat.

No one was around. She couldn’t see Qin Jian or anyone else.

She could only hear a familiar yet hate-filled voice saying to her, ”Jump! Jump and it all ends!”

As if bewitched, An Hao took a step forward and felt emptiness beneath her foot...

”Ah—!” An Hao screamed, her eyes suddenly snapping open.

Sweat poured from her body like rain, and her fever instantly receded.

Qin Jian wrung out a wet towel to help her wipe away the sweat: ”You were having a nightmare!”

An Hao nodded, ”I was! It was terrifying! So terrifying!”

”I heard you keep shouting my name in your dream! And to jump down.” Qin Jian raised his hand to tidy her disheveled hair, ”Where did you plan to make me jump to?”
