Zhang Fei - The Abandoned Son

Chapter 1188: First Area: Palace

Feng Yao casually landed in front of the Endless Night Castle in the center of the labyrinth, followed by her parents and three subordinates. The palace was built from black stones that have not decayed despite countless ages. They absorbed light, giving it a cold and oppressive atmosphere.

The palace was enormous, with collapsed ponds, dead rivers, courtyards, and broken pillars that stretched for miles. Old ruined lanterns hung on the few remaining walls, burning with an unnatural blue flame that never faded. Although the surrounding area was in disarray, the main building of the palace was still visible, with several large holes in some of the walls of its three floors.

In some areas, they could see many incomplete statues, having been destroyed by time. However, some statues were still physically visible, indicating that they were demon statues.

Even though she had seen many dangerous and scary places in the past, Feng Jiu shivered in fear as they stood in front of the ruined palace. She hugged Feng Tian’s arm tightly while asking their daughter. ”Who exactly was the old owner of this dungeon, Yao’er?”

”The Silver Moon Clan was once part of the ancient races, and their clan was divided into two races: humans and demons. The two races coexisted harmoniously despite their differences.” Feng Yao led them to enter the castle, and they saw many ruined murals on the walls inside. ”Despite the clan name, their members were masters in darkness arts and everything related to Yin. These murals depicted their prowess in war with other clans, and they were much superior to them, except for one clan, the Golden Sun Clan. As for the Endless Night name, people in the past called it that because there was no light whatsoever, and there was only darkness all around.”

”Does that mean the Golden Sun Clan and the Silver Moon Clan were the leaders of the ancient clans in the past?” Feng Tian asked while observing the murals in front of them.

”Both clans were the ancient clans’ leaders, and they were no different from the winged and demon races.” Feng Jiu and Feng Tian looked at Feng Yao directly. ”Both clans already existed long before the other ancient clans, and they were truly powerful. Even though the backbone of the Silver Moon Clan was humans and demons, it was inhabited by quite a lot of evil beast races, but the clan members regarded them merely as tools.”

”What about the Golden Sun Clan?”

”Haha.” Feng Yao softly laughed. ”Shouldn’t you already know the answer, Mother? The Golden Sun Clan was inhabited by winged races and humans, and there were also virtue beast races like our phoenix race. However, the true leader of the clan was a member of the winged race, and they excelled in light arts and everything related to Yang. Their history is too long, and it will take up a lot of time to retell it all. The main point is that all the cultivators in the Paradise Realm are distant descendants of the ancients, but era changes caused them to split into many clans and races that exist today.”

”So, what is your purpose in bringing us here, Empress?”

”Let’s go to the throne room first.” Feng Yao led them forward, but countless blue flames suddenly appeared and attacked them. She shook her head slightly, waved her hand, and instantly wiped them out. ”Those blue flames are the remnant souls of the Silver Moon Clan members, but they were unable to enter the cycle of reincarnation because they died with deep regrets weighing on their souls.”

”Empress! Don’t tell me that their leader’s soul still resides in the throne room.”

Feng Yao tilted her head to the side and teased Huo Yu’er. ”Are you afraid of ghosts, Yu’er?”

”Ugh! I’d rather face living beings than ghosts, Empress.” Huo Yu’er replied, hugging her shivering body.

”Hehe.” Feng Yao chuckled. ”You are right; their leader’s soul is on the throne now, and we will go to meet her.”

”No!” Huo Yu’er screamed loudly and wanted to run away, but Huo Lanyin swiftly grabbed her hand. ”Let me go, Sister Lanyin! I don’t want to meet a ghost!”

Huo Lanyin shook her head in response. ”What do you have to be afraid of with our empress here? She is stronger than anyone, and she can destroy the ghost easily.”

”But—”

”Stop complaining.” Huo Lanyin immediately pulled Huo Yu’er away, followed by Huo Hao’er, who laughed out loud.

”Empress! Help me! Sister Lanyin wants to kill me!”

”Let’s follow them.” Feng Yao immediately led her parents on their way while explaining some things about the Silver Moon Clan to them.

Sometime later, they arrived in front of the throne room. Although other areas of the palace were in disarray, the black stone gate leading inside was still intact.

”Ugh!” Huo Yu’er hugged Huo Lanyin’s arm tightly when she sensed a strong aura from within the throne. ”This ghost must be powerful! Its aura is so cold it’s bone-chilling!”

Huo Lanyin and Huo Hao’er sighed helplessly, especially since Huo Yu’er kept acting like a scared little girl even though she was a powerful cultivator.

”Yao’er, this door is sealed, right?”

”Actually, I sealed this door because she went berserk and killed numerous cultivators who entered this dungeon in the past.” Huo Yu’er became even more frightened and her face also turned deathly pale once Feng Yao said that. ”If I hadn’t imprisoned her soul back then, those people would never have dared to enter this dungeon, especially since they would die immediately upon entering.”

”Empress, we—Mhmm...” Huo Lanyin covered Huo Yu’er’s mouth with her hands immediately.

”Then, what are we doing here now? Do you intend to free her?” Feng Tian asked with a serious look.

”I imprisoned her soul here for millions of years, and she should have already broken free from her berserk state. Therefore, we will go in and check her condition first, and I will decide after confirming it.” Feng Yao touched the door and muttered something.

Feng Jiu and the others were stunned when several huge red chains appeared before them with a large padlock in the middle, which was part of the seal that Feng Yao had used to seal the throne room.

Soon, the padlock opened by itself before shrinking to a small size, as did the red chains. Feng Yao stored them into her storage ring and pushed the door open, but a burst of cold air immediately swept through them, pushing the others several steps backwards.

Huo Yu’er panicked until her body trembled violently, and cold sweat began to wet her body, but Huo Lanyin held her very tightly. Huo Ling instantly appeared in front of them, waved her hand, and dispelled the cold air. ”Dead woman! You don’t have to scare us! If it weren’t for my master, I would have tortured your soul with my eternal flame long ago!”

”Keh... Keh... Keh...” A woman’s horrified laughter greeted them.

’Ugh! I’m going to die! I will definitely die!’ Huo Yu’er inwardly muttered, closing her eyes tightly.

”Let’s go.” Feng Yao directly led them inside, with Huo Ling walking by her side while hugging her waist.

Huo Lanyin forcefully pulled Huo Yu’er, who was frightened of the woman, inside with Huo Hao’er walking beside them.

Huo Yu’er was not the only woman who was frightened by the woman, but Feng Jiu was also frightened by her. She hugged Feng Tian, who led her inside, very tightly.

Feng Yao shot out several small flames in several directions, lighting the torches around the room and illuminating the dark, cold room.

Feng Jiu and Huo Yu’er gasped in shock as they saw the woman’s soul sitting on the throne, but her hands and legs were bound by chains to the side of the room. Several other chains were wrapped around her body, tying her to the throne.

”Keh... Keh... Keh...” The woman kept releasing horrified laughter as she looked at Feng Yao with hostility in her silver eyes.

Feng Yao shook her head at that. ”You don’t need to look at me like that, Yin Yue. Since you have been freed from your berserk state, you should have remembered my reason for sealing and imprisoning your soul here. If you didn’t slaughter those people back then, I definitely wouldn’t do this to you.”

”Keh... Keh... Keh...” Yin Yue fiercely stared at Feng Yao. ”What brings you here today, Guang Zhiyi? You’ve been reincarnated several times, but I can never get over that annoying scent coming from your body.”

’Guang Zhiyi?’ Feng Jiu and the others exchanged looks of surprise. ’Could it be her other past name?’

”You—”

”That’s enough, Ling’er.” Feng Yao walked in front of Yin Yue. ”I came here to give you a chance to reincarnate.”

”Keh... Keh... Keh...” Yin Yue laughed loudly, but her expression was one of disbelief. ”Who are you trying to lie to? I’ve long been aware of my situation, and my soul is no longer fit to reincarnate due to the regret and resentment that linger within me.”

Feng Yao created a qi screen and showed Yin Yue about Zhang Fei, causing her to frown. ”I can’t help you reincarnate, but he can. He’s in this dungeon now, and he’ll reach this place later. You may not know him, but I know him well, and I know a lot about his abilities. He may be young, but he’s an expert soul cultivator, and most importantly, he’s Hu Tianlang’s sole heir.”
