The Deadly Hitwoman: The Heiress's Special Abilities

Chapter 398: Chapter 398: Army at the Gates (Part 2)

They barely drove the enemy back on the first day, but the casualties were already severe. Even though Su Xingqiao had led troops for many years and General Han, along with Han Si Que, had personally gone into battle, they still found it difficult to handle.

At night, Han Jing secretly took Lan Ling and Mu Jin with her, sneaking up to the city gate while everyone was off guard.

Originally, Mu Jin was against Han Jing going, no matter what, but Han Jing said that if the city fell, they would all suffer, leaving Mu Jin speechless and having no choice but to follow them.

Although Su Xingqiao was exhausted from a day’s work, he still wasn’t in the mood to rest. He knew that once dawn broke and the enemy forces caught up, they would never be able to hold the city gate.

While he was at his wits’ end, he saw Han Jing and the two others sneak up the city wall unnoticed, and he was stunned, rushing towards Han Jing and shouting, ”What are you doing here?! Go back quickly!”

This was the first time Su Xingqiao had spoken to her in such a reproachful tone since he had known Han Jing.

”Brother Qiao, don’t be upset. I’m here to help,” Han Jing knew Su Xingqiao was worried about her, but in truth, she was not that frail.

How could she, who had been an assassin for so many years, be weak like a porcelain doll? It would have been a joke.

”Help with what? There’s no need for you to worry here!” Not to mention that she was pregnant; even if she wasn’t, he couldn’t let her be here. What place was this? A battlefield! Who knew if there would be a night raid? In such an obvious situation where the enemy outnumbered us, even he couldn’t guarantee victory in this battle, so how could he let her risk herself?

Han Jing knew that Su Xingqiao definitely wouldn’t agree, but if she didn’t help, the battle would be really hard to win.

”Brother Qiao, listen to me. I really have a way. Besides, Lan Ling is here; nothing will happen to me. Don’t forget, I’m not as fragile as you think.” Han Jing was reminding Su Xingqiao that he should have realized her capabilities that day, so she was truly not here to cause trouble.

Su Xingqiao’s face sank, still unwilling to agree with her. He knew that while she might be able to hold them off for a time, he didn’t want her to take any risks or suffer any harm.

”Brother Qiao, you should know that the enemy army has been stationed in the Southern Land, where it is hot and humid all year round. What do they fear most?” Han Jing reminded him.

”The cold.” As someone experienced in military affairs, how could Su Xingqiao not understand the impact of environmental conditions on an army?

The Southern Land is coastal and hot and humid all year; now it’s early March in the Capital City. Though it has begun to warm, there’s still some cold. However, the Capital City is in the southern region, so while it’s cold, it’s still bearable.

Han Jing nodded and said, ”They fear the cold. Because the current temperature is still within their tolerable range, they don’t feel particularly uncomfortable. However, having marched here from the Southern Land, they are already somewhat exhausted, and this is when their resistance is the weakest. That’s why you could easily drive them back during the day, and once they rest and recover, with just the Imperial Guard in the Capital City, it would be impossible to match the enemy forces. Not to mention, only a quarter of their troops are here; their main army has yet to arrive.”
