Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1536: Chapter 1537: Mother Cheng Complains

Their eldest aunt didn’t wait for Qi Taiguo to return, because Qi Taiguo had to be on duty and didn’t have time to come back, so they left after dinner.

”On the twelfth, we’re having Xiao Qi’s one-month banquet at Joy Soon Loy Restaurant. Aunt, you all should come celebrate with us. My in-laws will also be there.” Cheng Su still wanted to maintain appearances, not really for anyone else’s sake, but for Deng Weixia.

Today, she went to the restaurant and specifically had a conversation with Old Song to ask about Deng Weixia’s situation.

Unexpectedly, Deng Weixia, like a blind cat catching a dead mouse, really managed to find his path. Initially, he was sent to the restaurant just to try his luck, and whether he could make it depended on him. Turns out, this kid actually had some talent.

He started as a little helper doing odd jobs, then he moved up to working at the cutting board. He usually didn’t say much, even during his breaks, he didn’t rest. Instead, he’d practice his knife skills with a carrot in the kitchen. His garnishing skills looked promising. Now, from what Old Song said, he’s been secretly learning how to cook.

Cheng Su talked to Old Song. If there were promising young individuals in the kitchen who were willing to learn, it wouldn’t hurt to spend a little money to directly train them on a small gas stove. If they had real talent, Old Song should nurture them.

In a previous life, she had worked in hotels and knew that becoming a chef required years of hard work. To learn cooking, one needed patience, perseverance, and talent.

Deng Weixia had the talent. He didn’t know anything before, but now he’s started learning to cook.

Cheng Su helped people based on their character. She would lend a hand to those who showed promise. After all, they were family, like Qi Fenglian, Deng Weixia, and those with better relationships like Chunhua, Qiulan, and Little Yu, but for those who were hopeless, like Zhang Jisheng from before, who couldn’t achieve anything, she wouldn’t help them again.

So now that she saw Deng Weixia willing to put in the hard work, she felt relieved and showed respect to these few people like the eldest aunt.

There was no reason to refuse a celebratory drink. Deng Weiqiu and the others gladly accepted the invitation and then said their goodbyes.

The eldest aunt asked Liu Wenjing to lead the way first. Deng Weiqiu walked a few steps, then turned back with an apologetic face and said, ”Cousin-in-law, my mother’s always been like this. Please don’t take it to heart. I still need your help finding a job. I really want to earn some money.”

Cheng Su raised an eyebrow and said, ”I’ll keep an eye out.”

Deng Weiqiu left with a grateful expression.

As soon as the door closed, Mother Cheng’s face darkened, ”You always said Qi Taiguo’s eldest aunt was difficult, and she really is. She always looks annoyed as if someone owes her hundreds of millions. She can’t say a kind word. She comes here when we have a newborn and says unlucky things about death. Really, who’s she trying to curse?”

”She’s just like that, having been widowed all her life, she’s become this way. Just let it go, mom,” Cheng Su consoled.

”Even if I try to let it go, it’s still frustrating. Who behaves like her?” Mother Cheng said angrily, ”People usually humble themselves when asking for favors. Not her. It’s like she’s demanding attention. I’ve never seen such a thing. Today was an eye-opener!”

”Otherwise, why would she still be in the situation she’s in today?” Cheng Su said calmly.

Mother Cheng paused, then understood Cheng Su was referring to the aunt’s fate and the misfortunes in her family, and said, ”That’s her own karma.” Feeling it was unlucky, she added, ”Alright, let’s not talk about this. It’s good she isn’t your mother-in-law!”

Cheng Su smirked. If her mother-in-law were like that, she would have divorced long ago!
