CEO's Reborn Wife

Chapter 284: Chapter 292: The Favored One

Sometimes Jane Sampson couldn’t help being playful, lifting her head and splashing Granny Sampson all over with water. She might also have caught a glimpse of him as he passed by her home doorway, and she remembered, as a little girl, she had once smiled at him drenched like that.

The girl knew nothing of the world back then, her happiness was pure and simple.

Not like later, when her mind was filled with troubles.

Jane’s hair was soft, but she had a lot of it. James Black was afraid of handling it too roughly, so he washed it somewhat slowly.

By the time he finished pouring the water, had placed the chair and returned to the room, he saw Jane crouching in front of the drawer, diligently sorting out the hairdryer’s somewhat long cord. He stepped forward and took the hairdryer from her hand.

”Sit down,” James Black pointed to a chair by her side.

Upon seeing James Black like this, Jane immediately nodded, her obedience uncharacteristic, with both legs together, and one hand gently resting on her knee, she sat like a student.

Looking at Jane this way, James Black inexplicably smiled lowly and tugged up the corner of his mouth.

He patted her head. ”I’m not giving you a lesson, you don’t have to sit so stiffly, just relax and be comfortable.”

”You said so?” Jane questioned with a ’huh’, then quickly stood up, took her mobile phone from under the pillow, and sat back down.

It was one thing to play with her mobile phone, but she went further by resting her head on James Black’s chest, finding a support point so her hair wouldn’t obstruct her view while playing games on her phone.

A sudden throbbing began at James Black’s temple.

”Jane Sampson, are you trying to start a dyeing workshop here?” James Black called out, name and surname included, to the person already logged into the game.

Jane slowly lifted her head, blinked her eyes, and glanced at his clothes dampened by her hair.

After a few seconds of silence, Jane took a big towel, draped it over herself, and turned to face away from James Black. With a hee-hee laugh, she asked, ”Is this alright now?”

James Black held back and hummed in response.

The sound of the hairdryer gradually covered Jane’s laughter. Sitting behind her, James Black did not notice that Jane, who had been sitting upright playing on her phone, had at some point placed the mobile on the table.

She didn’t speak, seemingly daydreaming as she stared at the person in the dressing mirror.

There were two people, one in front of the other.

One was slowly smiling at the mirror, the other was busy working behind her, one hand holding the hairdryer, the other moving about atop her head.

”James Black.”

Jane called out his name, and knowing he didn’t respond, she realized he couldn’t hear her.

”James Black,” Jane called out again.

Still no response from James Black, Jane kept repeating his name like a wind-up toy, her smile deepening with each call.

”James Black, are you always going to be this nice to me? By always, I mean forever.”

Behind the final calling of his name, Jane secretly added a line.

That evening, Jane suddenly understood a lyric from a song.

The favored ones are always fearless.

Fearlessly pampered, fearlessly affected.

Just like she was tonight.

Feeling as though she was James Black’s favorite, allowing her antics, her laughter.

The daydreaming Jane didn’t realize that James Black’s hand paused for just a moment after she said that line, for a fleeting second, too fast to be noticed.

In the mirror, the person who had been focused on working had somehow turned his gaze to the front.

To the girl in the mirror who was laughing.
