Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 92: Chapter 76 Good Brother

”Luoyang, drink some water, I added honey, it will make you feel better.” Luo Ye handed a warm cup of honey water to Luoyang, the little girl’s tight face softened a bit, and in her, Luo Ye saw her own past reflection, feeling an inexplicable closeness in her heart.

Seeing the little girl’s eyes constantly fixed on Song Qiu, Luo Ye smiled and took her hand to pet Song Qiu a couple of times: ”Feels comfortable to touch, doesn’t it?”

Song Qiu made two protesting grunts, curling up its small body, as if objecting to being used as a diplomatic tool by its young owner. The cute and playful gesture brought a hint of a smile to the otherwise stern-faced Luoyang, who then turned to Luo Ye helplessly: ”Does Sister Ye’er think I’m a six-year-old kid?”

The girl’s helpless look brought a cheerful laugh from Luo Ye. Pointing to the water cup, she said, ”Finally smiling, it’s not easy, go on, drink the water.”

”Brother, you should have some too, Sister Ye’er’s mix isn’t too sweet.” After drinking half the cup, Luoyang passed the rest to her brother, Luo Shui, who was beside her.

Luo Shui naturally took it and finished it in one gulp, looking at Luo Ye: ”Thank you.”

”No need, want more?” Luo Ye noticed that Luo Shui was really interesting, his eyes were full of tender care when he looked at his sister, but they became indifferent as soon as he turned to someone else.

”No need, thank you!” Luo Shui replied, distant but polite.

”Uncle, I really don’t know what to say.” Luo Dongping, who had been silent, raised his head. Ever since he was brought back from that chaotic scene by Grandpa Luo, he had been covering his head in silence, his wife Qiu Ya sitting quietly by his side, seemingly demonstrating her resolution to advance or withdraw with her husband.

Grandpa Luo waved his hand: ”If you don’t know what to say, then don’t say anything. Rest here tonight, and the next time you come back, stay at Uncle’s place; I’ll leave you a set of keys.”

In the village, only Grandpa Luo dared to take in Luo Dongping’s family. Luo Dongli and Luo Dongfang were wary of Zhenggang’s status and would not dare to make a fuss at his doorstep.

Qiu Ya gratefully looked at Grandpa Luo: ”Uncle, thank you. Dongping is stubborn. As brothers, he wouldn’t fight back even if killed. But he felt it was unfilial not to return home for the three-year anniversary of our father’s death. We never expected it to turn into such a mess.”

”Uncle, I just wanted to see if my two elder brothers really could kill me. I don’t want the inheritance, and I had no plans to sue them, I never coveted the ancestral property either, so why are they still treating me this way?” Luo Dongping’s eyes carried deep wounds. He vividly remembered the love his brothers had for him as a child, so how had they become enemies as adults?

”They wouldn’t kill you, but they might beat you so badly that you’d never want to come back,” Grandpa Luo sighed. ”Dongping, Uncle needs to say something, and I hope you won’t take offense, but you are being foolish. Your two brothers are no longer who they used to be. Why gamble with your life? They wouldn’t dare kill you, but what if they cause serious injury? Who would suffer the consequences? Qiu Ya and the children, that’s who.”

”Yes, I always tell him that, but he doesn’t listen.”

”My dad had it coming!” Luo Shui’s cold voice sounded.

Qiu Ya looked at her son disapprovingly: ”Luo Shui, you shouldn’t talk about your dad like that.”

”Facing relatives who regard oneself as a thorn in their side, insisting on putting oneself in a position to be bullied and trampled, if that’s not foolish, what is? Not fighting back even if it means death; did he ever consider whether the other side would applaud his death?” Luo Shui looked earnestly at Grandpa Luo: ”Fourth Grandpa, please say something fair. Shouldn’t my dad take back what belongs to him?”

Grandpa Luo sighed lightly: ”Luo Shui, your Fourth Grandpa understands your feelings very well, but your dad doesn’t want to completely lose his roots.”

”What’s the difference if it’s lost or kept? Dad, I’m putting it out there, once I, Luo Shui, have the ability, I will take back what belongs to us. They can’t expect to monopolize our property and live in comfort. I’d rather donate it to an orphanage than let them enjoy possessions that aren’t rightfully theirs!” The hatred in Luo Shui’s eyes seemed to ignite, the humiliations he had suffered from childhood to adulthood filled him with resentment towards these two sets of relatives.

When their family was the poorest, they all crammed into a small, damp, and chilly room of barely over ten square meters. They didn’t have enough food or warm clothes, and his sister has been frail to this day. During those unbearable days, he took on burdens a child his age should never have to. He swore he would make something of himself and retrieve what belonged to him, to make those ungrateful people taste the bitterness of humiliation!
