Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 63: Chapter 59 Encountered

Luo Ye had just asked, ”Why isn’t anyone staying with you overnight?” when the door to the ward was pushed open. A woman in her fifties came in carrying a basin and a thermos. Song Meng quickly introduced her, ”Luo Ye, this is Jiejie’s mother, Aunt Xiao.”

Luo Feng hurried over to take the thermos and basin and set them down. A smile crept into Luo Ye’s eyes; her elder brother might have a mild temper, but he was quick to catch on and lend a hand, plus his handsome looks made him particularly favored by the mom-aged crowd.

Sure enough, Aunt Xiao’s cheeks, adorned with dimples, blossomed into two big chrysanthemums, golden ones at that when she looked at Luo Feng, almost as if she was scrutinizing a potential son-in-law. God knows what kind of look she gave Song Meng.

”Mom...” Pan Jie started calling out and then broke into tears. Aunt Xiao, thinking her daughter must’ve been wronged somehow, shot a somewhat unfriendly glance at Luo Ye.

Luo Ye muttered to herself, surely it’s a case of like repels like. Her brother gets looked at like a prospective son-in-law, yet when it comes to her, she gets the vixen stare?

”Jiejie, what’s wrong? Are you not feeling well, or did someone bully you?” Aunt Xiao asked. Song Meng, wearing an awkward expression, hurriedly explained, ”Aunt Xiao, this is Luo Ye, and the one who helped you with your things is Luo Feng. They are the lifesavers I told you about. If not for them, Jiejie and I wouldn’t know where we would be now!” Pan Jie also stopped crying and nodded continuously, ”Mom, it was them, the siblings who saved Song Meng and me.”

Aunt Xiao grabbed Luo Ye’s hand and kept rubbing it back and forth, ”You two siblings are benefactors to both our families, you’ve saved two entire familes! Jiejie is the most promising daughter in our family...”

Mrs. Pan recounted Pan Jie’s excellence from childhood to the present in great detail; Pan Jie tried to interrupt and stop her mother several times, to no avail.

After several attempts, Luo Ye failed to extricate her hand from Mrs. Pan’s firm grip. Eventually, she gave up trying; getting a free hand massage wasn’t something to scoff at.

Luo Feng looked at his sister, sympathy in his eyes. Her pale, delicate hands had turned bright red. He really wanted to pry away those rough hands, but Mrs. Pan’s tear-filled eyes made him hold back.

Song Meng, being the son-in-law, couldn’t bring himself to interrupt. His throat felt uncomfortable several times, but Aunt Xiao was too caught up in her storytelling to notice. Awkward!

With a face like an oval egg, tender skin, and features that didn’t seem exquisite on their own yet together formed a rather harmonious appearance, reminiscent of Shu Qi’s type of beauty. A face you’d find beautiful if you liked it, or plain if you didn’t.

While Mrs. Pan went on and on, Luo Ye took the opportunity to observe Pan Jie thoroughly. It was technically their first meeting, as in her past life, she had only heard of her but never met her.

Noticing Luo Ye’s gaze, Pan Jie’s face flushed with a red tinge, her eyes full of apology. As the only one in her family to attend a prestigious university for a master’s degree, her mother could not wait for the whole world to know her accomplishments. Despite Pan Jie’s repeated protests, her mother would agree only in the moment but then revert to her own ways, leaving Pan Jie no choice but to save face for her mother in front of others. Sigh!

Luo Ye wasn’t particularly annoyed by the rambling of a woman her mother’s age; in fact, she found it rather normal. The incessant boasting was just an attempt to compensate for a shortage in that area and seek approval from others. After all, when have you ever heard Gates brag about how much money he has?

”I’m sorry, I got carried away. Are you bored of listening?” Finally, Mrs. Pan realized she had fallen into her old habits again. She looked at the color of Luo Ye’s hands and her face showed clear embarrassment, ”Sorry, I got lost in my words.”

Luo Ye smiled and shook her head, ”It’s nothing.” She secretly compared her two hands: one was clearly a shelled red egg, and the other a peeled white one.

Luo Feng noticed his sister’s subtle actions and felt both amused and concerned; he didn’t want her to fall victim to his mother again, so he stealthily positioned himself in front of his sister. Awkward!

”Luo Ye, Luo Feng, when I say those things, I’m not trying to show off to you, but rather to convey how important Jiejie is to our family. If you ever need any help in the future, just let us know. The Pan family will be there without hesitation!” Mrs. Pan asserted confidently, patting her chest.

”Thank you, Aunt Xiao!” The siblings expressed their gratitude together.

”How old is Luo Feng this year?” Mrs. Pan’s gaze towards Luo Feng was indescribably affectionate.

”I’m 19.” Luo Feng felt his hairs standing on end under her gaze.

Pan Jie gave Song Meng a look and tugged at Mrs. Pan’s sleeve, ”Mom, can you help me to the restroom?”

After the mother and daughter went into the restroom and closed the door, Luo Ye took the initiative to pull her brother over to kneel beside Song Meng’s bed, ”Brother Song, go ahead and tell us!”
