Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 72: Chapter 64 Unveiling One’s Skill

”Dad, how about I give you a stylish haircut? I’m really talented in this area, trust me!” After dinner, Luo Ye went back to her bedroom to get her toolkit and headed to Luo Zhenggang, brandishing her hairdressing tools.

When leaving Wenxin Garden, she had drawn some fashionable hairstyle illustrations for Mao and the others. Even if she didn’t mention it, Mom would soon find out about her skills, so she might as well claim her passion for design upfront—it seemed a shame to keep hiding it.

Luo Zhenggang waved his hand: ”No need, your dad still needs to meet people!”

”You think my hairstyle isn’t presentable? I did this myself!” Luo Ye spun around and pouted. ”Bro, let’s start with you. Didn’t we agree to change our image together last time? I’ve always remembered that!”

”Alright... okay then!” Luo Feng hesitantly agreed. He believed in his sister’s hairstyle looking beautiful but was skeptical about her hairdressing skills. However, to make up for having wronged his sister, he was ready to take the risk.

”Ye’er, stop messing around!” Luo Zhenggang interrupted. ”Your brother is not a kid anymore, I’ll take him to Wenxin Garden tomorrow, and let the person who cuts your hair give your brother a trim too.”

Luo Ye spread her hands: ”I designed and cut my hair by myself.”

”I think you’re blowing your own trumpet!”

Wen Xin joined in her husband’s comment: ”Yeah, Ye’er, you can’t joke about this. Mom admits your hairstyle is very pretty, but you’ve never learned this skill, how could you possibly cut your own hair?”

Luo Ye didn’t bother to argue further: ”Okay, enough talk, brother, are you going to let me use the scissors?”

”Go ahead, cut it!” Luo Feng gave his own head one last look, closed his eyes, and was enveloped by a tragic air as if he was heading to the gallows.

”First go wash your hair!” Luo Ye slapped Luo Feng lightly in annoyance. ”If you continue to act like this, I won’t cut it. Am I really that unreliable?”

When Luo Ye’s scissors started flying, both Luo Zhenggang and Wen Xin were convinced, yet they were full of bewilderment—when did their daughter acquire such an amazing skill?

Twenty minutes later.

Luo Feng’s thick side-parted hair transformed into a trendy short, messy cut, extremely handsome and elegant. Wen Xin looked at her son approvingly and nodded: ”With Feng’er looking like this, a daughter-in-law won’t be far from our home!”

Luo Feng’s face turned red from his mom’s praise: ”Mom, I’m not considering that right now, but Ye’er’s skills are indeed great.”

A shadow flickered in Luo Ye’s eyes; when she hitched a ride earlier, she seemed to see Luo Feng walking with Liang Jing. She hoped she was mistaken, but was she really?

”Right, no more going out for haircuts for our family!” Luo Zhenggang made the decision.

Wen Xin curiously looked at her daughter: ”Ye’er, when did you practice this skill?”

”I practiced on the pumpkins at Grandpa’s house back in my hometown. When I was bullied and in a bad mood, I would vent on a hair mannequin. I just hid them away so Mom never saw it,” Luo Ye said listlessly as she packed up her tools. ”I’m tired, I’ll go rest in my room for a while.”

”Ye’er, it was Mom and Dad who were wrong before, we are sorry!” Wen Xin gently embraced Luo Ye, who was packing her tools, with a face full of guilt.

”Ye’er, your brother is already changing according to your wishes, don’t worry, from now on your brother will protect you!” Luo Feng also approached guiltily.

Luo Zhenggang’s lips moved slightly but ultimately he just sighed softly, heading to his study without saying anything. Clearly, everyone thought Luo Ye was upset because she was reminded of the past.

”Mom, I’ve stopped thinking about the past, and I don’t blame you guys, really, I just hope everything will be alright from now on!” Luo Ye gave Luo Feng a deep look: ”Brother, Ye’er hopes you truly care about Ye’er and the words she’s said before, she won’t harm you!”

”I will!” Luo Feng nodded as if suddenly remembering something, his face flushing: ”Ye’er... I...” Luo Ye glanced at him sideways and carried her toolkit towards her bedroom.

”Feng’er, what did you do to upset Ye’er?” Wen Xin was somewhat puzzled.

”It’s nothing, Mom, I’m going to check on Ye’er!” As Luo Ye’s figure disappeared behind the door, Luo Feng hurriedly followed, Wen Xin could only shake her head helplessly. The older the children, the more they keep to themselves. In the past, her son would eagerly tell her everything!

”Ye’er...” Luo Feng knocked on Luo Ye’s bedroom door, receiving no response, he anxiously pushed it open—thankfully, it wasn’t locked.

Luo Ye was sitting on the bed looking through old photos, glancing faintly at Luo Feng and continuing with her gaze - her expression tight, indicating that she knew her brother had gone back on his word.

”Ye’er saw me with Liang Jing today, right? But it’s not that I didn’t listen to Ye’er’s advice, really!” Luo Feng carefully observed Luo Ye’s complexion: ”Can you let me explain, please?”

”Bro, I want to make it clear, I don’t dislike you having a girlfriend. Of course, I want my brother to be happy, but Liang Jing is not suitable!” Luo Ye’s eyes brimmed with tears: ”You have to believe my intuition, I just want my brother to be happy, that’s all.”

”Ye’er, I understand, really understand!” Luo Feng hurriedly explained: ”I haven’t been seeing Liang Jing privately. What happened today was because she had all her belongings stolen by a pickpocket on the bus. Helpless, she called Zhuang Meili first, but Zhuang Meili wasn’t available, so she called my dorm. For a girl to encounter this and to be taken advantage of by others is truly pitiable. I only dropped her off at her dorm and left.”

”Really? Doesn’t she have colleagues or friends at her workplace? Can’t her so-called uncle help her? It’s very obvious that she wants to get close to you, Brother!” Luo Ye looked seriously at Luo Feng: ”I don’t discriminate against her for being from out of town, nor do I discriminate against her for her lack of education, or even for her being a rural household registrant. But I do discriminate against her for betraying friends and resorting to any means necessary to stay in this city. Brother, do you understand?”

”Ye’er, it’s quite common for a girl to have a fallout over a guy, it’s not necessarily betrayal. When it comes to love, everyone wants to seize it, right?” Seeing Luo Ye’s expression turn uglier, Luo Feng quickly cut himself off: ”I’ll listen to Ye’er, I’ll definitely listen to Ye’er!”

Luo Ye waved her hand: ”Forget it, Bro, I just want to be alone for a while.”

Knowing his sister’s temper, Luo Feng realized it was no use to say more. With a heavy heart, he left the room, glancing back three times, and let out a sigh before returning to his own bedroom.

He felt wronged, not understanding why his sister had such a strong prejudice against Liang Jing.

...

Inside the City Committee’s printing office.

”Liang Jing, please proofread this manuscript again. Once it’s correct, print it on sulfuric acid paper and send it to the printing factory. Make sure to indicate that it’s for PS plate printing, and don’t accidentally produce a zinc oxide plate!” Liang Jing’s uncle handed her a manuscript and headed back to his office. As the manager of a printing office with less than ten people, he was hands-on with nearly everything.

Liang Jing’s eyes were glued to the manuscript, but scenes of her walking the streets with Luo Feng yesterday kept flashing in her mind, her lips unconsciously curling into a smile.

”Jingjing, what are you daydreaming about? You look so happy,” Chi Xiaofeng, a typist sitting beside her, teased Liang Jing with a smile. Everyone at the print shop knew she was the boss’s relative, so they were all rather respectful toward her.

”Proofreading the manuscript, what else?” Liang Jing glanced sideways at him: ”Don’t measure me by your dirty thoughts. Are you thinking about your beloved dog at home?”

”Whatever. Your expression clearly says you’re thinking of some guy. If proofreading manuscripts gives you that kind of look, then that’d be truly something!” Chi Xiaofeng reminded as he pursed his lips: ”Don’t get too distracted. A single mistake and the whole thing is wasted. This order is for thirty thousand copies, you get it.”

Wei Chunhui, who was sitting next to Chi Xiaofeng, rolled his eyes and suggested: ”Jingjing, tell us which young master you’re fond of, and I’ll help you proofread!”

”There’s no one I fancy; stop guessing!” Liang Jing said with resignation: ”Just focus on your work. Messing up even one manuscript can cost you 50 yuan; do you all think you have too much money?”

”If you won’t say, then fine. But someone returned to the dormitory yesterday with sweet syrup almost dripping from their eyes. Trust us; we’ll meet him sooner or later!” Chi Xiaofeng said, casting a sympathetic glance at Jiang Hui, who was diligently working.

Everyone knew that Jiang Hui liked Liang Jing. The guy once braved heavy rain to run three kilometers to buy dumplings from the Zhang Family for Liang Jing. By the time he was back, he was soaked, but the dumplings were still warm. When Liang Jing caught a cold, he accompanied her late at night in the hospital to get an IV. Whenever she couldn’t finish her work, he’d stay up helping her through the night... Such events were too numerous to count.

Liang Jing didn’t reject Jiang Hui’s advances, but she didn’t give him a clear response either. Everyone speculated that such an attitude meant either she had someone she liked, or she was just too proud.

However, if she did have someone she liked and still accepted Jiang Hui’s kindness, then her character would be questionable. If she weren’t the boss’s relative, people would have stopped dealing with her long ago.

”Liang Jing, someone’s looking for you!” Receptionist Tang Jialing announced before giving everyone in the typist room a secretive wink, her face full of gossip.

”Male or female?” Chi Xiaofeng quickly asked.

”A really pretty woman!” Tang Jialing exaggerated by pointing to a celebrity poster on the wall: ”She’s as pretty as her!”

”Client?”

”No!”

Tang Jialing’s response turned everyone’s expressions intriguing. Yesterday’s expression on Liang Jing’s face, today’s unexplained silly smiles... Was the official girlfriend here? The gossip universe immediately ignited.

Jiang Hui, who had been quietly working the whole time, finally showed a trace of emotion on his face, casting a worried glance at Liang Jing who walked out looking puzzled. Liang Jing was indeed puzzled. Everyone had seen Zhuang Meili, and she wasn’t so beautiful as to rival a celebrity. Besides her, who else knew her workplace and could find her?

Luo Ye!

Liang Jing’s heart suddenly clenched. Luo Ye didn’t like her; of this she was certain. Could it be she came to seek retribution for yesterday’s incident?

This is a revised Chapter; it has some changes from the original. I hurried to post it because I was worried that Nuannuan would have to wait too long. When I looked at it again, I felt some parts were not reasonable, so I made some significant alterations. I hope you guys will understand. Sigh, I fell asleep typing yesterday, and I had to catch up this morning. Such a facepalm moment.
