Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 82: Chapter 70: Each Harboring Their Own Thoughts ”Rituals can’t be neglected?” Second Uncle Luo repeated with a mocking laugh, ”Wang Yan, may I ask, where are your so-called rituals? If we really want to talk about rituals, should my dad be living alone at the east end of the village now?”

”Zheng Qiang, it’s not that Dad doesn’t want to live with us, okay? Can you blame me for that?” Wang Yan’s tears streamed down, ”What did you say when you married me? Now you’re scolding me with such a high and mighty tone, do you even have a conscience?”

”You know very well how I’ve treated you all these years. I can’t say much if my older sister has issues with Fourth, but you? Don’t you know what Fourth has done for us? Do you have the face to blame him?

When Fourth just got promoted, you all respected him like an ancestor, but later when he didn’t give any backdoors for the family, you turned your faces and put on airs. What right do you have to do that? And yet you still talk about not neglecting rituals, you sure love quibbling with words!”

Wang Yan retorted unconvinced: ”You’re his elder brother, no matter what his rank or status is, he is still your younger brother, am I wrong?”

”He is my younger brother, that is a fact that will never change, don’t use that as an excuse. Do you think I don’t know what you’re thinking? You just can’t stand Fourth becoming an official by luck. If you have the capability, let someone from your family become an official based on luck too!” Second Uncle Luo’s anger rose as he spoke: ”Wang Yan, you’ve always prided yourself on being different from rural women, may I ask, where is your difference? Is it because you can recite ’rituals can’t be neglected’?”

”I don’t have any displeasure, Zheng Qiang, you’re wronging me... Okay, I was wrong. Let’s go see Dad now, I’ll go with you!” Seeing that Second Uncle Luo was truly angry, Wang Yan immediately softened, very clear about her own husband’s temperament. She didn’t want to lose the bigger picture over something small.

”Shouldn’t it have been like this from the start?” Second Uncle Luo stormed out, and Wang Yan hurriedly followed.

”Good day, Second Uncle! Good day, Second Aunt!” As Second Uncle Luo walked out, he happened to meet Luo Ye and Luo Feng, the siblings who came to invite him.

”Hello, Feng’er...” Second Uncle Luo glanced at Luo Ye, asking uncertainly, ”Is... is that Ye’er?”

Luo Ye smiled and nodded, ”Yes, Second Uncle, I’m Ye’er!”

Wang Yan quickly approached and warmly hugged Luo Ye: ”It’s true that girls change so much after they grow up. So, when did you arrive? Why didn’t you let us know in advance? Otherwise, your Second Uncle and I would have come over earlier!”

”Second Uncle, Second Aunt, let’s go now. Dad asked me and my brother to come invite you!” Luo Ye emphasized the word ”invite”, secretly despising the Second Aunt’s pretense. Second Uncle’s reaction had made it clear they already knew about their return, so why the act?

Luo Feng handed over a gift: ”Second Uncle, Second Aunt, this is a small token of appreciation from my parents!”

”Fourth brother and sister-in-law are always so formal...” Wang Yan declined, ”We don’t need gifts, better leave them for Grandpa.”

Luo Ye smiled sweetly, ”Okay, then consider it as Second Aunt honoring Grandpa. Second Uncle, please could you take it to Grandpa? My brother and I still need to visit Uncle.”

Wang Yan’s face twitched, really wanting to slap herself. Once words are spoken, they can’t be taken back; she can’t just say she won’t give it to Grandpa, can she?

A flicker of amusement flashed in Luo Feng’s lowered gaze. Little sister was becoming more adept at teasing people.

...

”Luo Zhengjian, no matter how high-ranking he is, he’s still your younger brother, and if you dare to go over first, don’t bother coming back here ever again!” Luo Ye and Luo Feng arrived at their Uncle’s house just in time to hear Aunt’s shrill yelling, followed by a series of crashes and slaps, and then Aunt’s wailing, ”Just kill me why don’t you, you cursed thing, you ungrateful...”.

Luo Hua and Luo Ning, already used to such commotion, were sitting on stools crackling sunflower seeds. Seeing the siblings enter, they quickly stood up and gave an awkward smile, not sure what to say.

Luo Ye broke the silence first, ”Brother, Sister, Dad asked us to invite Uncle over for dinner.”

Had they not known beforehand that their Uncle’s family had already arrived, Luo Hua and Luo Ning would have never recognized the two. Even so, Luo Hua still tentatively asked, ”Xiao Feng, Little Ye?”

”Yes!” Luo Ye and Luo Feng nodded simultaneously.

”Xiao Feng, Little Yezi, your brother has missed you so much!” Luo Ning exaggeratedly hugged Luo Feng and when turning to Luo Ye, pinched her little nose, ”Little Yezi has become so pretty, it’s a bit scary for your brother to just hug you.”

”Thank you for the compliment, Brother!” Luo Ye said, looking towards Luo Hua, ”Sister is about to become a bride, congratulations!”

”Thank you, Little Ye!” Luo Hua forced a smile, rhythmically pounding on the door, ”Dad, Mom, Xiao Feng and Little Ye are here.”

...

Aunt was furious, and the consequences were serious! She flat out ignored Luo Ye and Luo Feng and even forbade her children from going to Grandpa’s house.
