Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 89: Chapter 74: Learning the Arts_2

...

”Scoundrel! Scoundrel!” As Luo Ye vaulted over the wall and landed in the courtyard, she accidentally kicked a small pebble that almost struck her, causing Honghong to angrily flap its wings and protest repeatedly.

”Just bad, scaring you to death!” Luo Ye poked Honghong on the head with a finger, feeling pleased as she walked into the house, while the frustrated squawking of Honghong echoed from behind.

Her practice during this period had truly been beneficial. Initially, she wasn’t too hopeful about this martial arts training and was just happy to have a cover story, but after really getting into it, she realized that Mr. Yu was far from ordinary, as seen by the rapid progress she had made.

Although Mr. Yu always diverted the topic each time she inquired about the past, she believed that his family background must be extraordinary. Hiding in this small village, he must have some compelling reasons, right?

It wasn’t her place to speculate, but she had noticed the occasional look of desolation in Mr. Yu’s eyes more than once, and alas, the master was not willing to tell her.

”Ye’er, have some juice!” Grandpa Luo happily handed Luo Ye a cup of peach juice. Lately, the old man had become adept at using the juicer, providing Luo Ye and Luo Feng with his lovingly prepared juice each time they returned.

Seeing his grandson stagger in, the old man quickly passed another cup: ”Feng’er, look at how lively Ye’er is, always jumping over the wall to come back. Why are you still so listless?”

Luo Feng made a face and waved his hands: ”Grandpa, don’t mention it. I’m just no match for Ye’er in this respect. I also want to vault over the wall, but sadly I can’t jump that high!”

Luo Ye hurriedly consoled him: ”Brother, don’t worry. The main reason I’m nimbler is that I’m lighter and slimmer. Besides, Master’s training is mainly tailored to Brother’s strength, so it’s not the same.”

”That’s true. Master has said not to compare with Sister. I have indeed made great progress!” Luo Feng cheered up: ”Ye’er, if there’s any trouble in the future, don’t take action; your brother will protect you.”

”Okay!” Luo Ye gently clinked her cup against her brother’s, ”It’s a deal.”

”Woof woof...” A certain ball that felt neglected was not pleased. Recently, Luo Ye no longer took it to Mr. Yu’s. When this little guy went there, the snow-white mother Tibetan Mastiff would lie close beside it, causing the sandy-colored father Tibetan Mastiff’s dissatisfaction. Fearing that the little one would be hurt by its own father, Luo Ye dared not bring it along.

”Little Songqiu, keep being spoiled and arrogant.” Luo Ye laughed and lifted the fluffy little fellow, as Dou Dou mischievously pecked the little one’s head, triggering another round of grumbling.

”Fourth Uncle, from far away I could hear the laughter from your house, how lively it gets when those two kids come over,” Xiao Xiao’s mom walked in carrying a tray, ”Here are some steamed buns I made. Fourth Uncle and Xiao Feng, Little Ye, no need to cook lunch.”

”Xiao Xiao’s Mom, you’re so busy, no need to worry about us!” Grandpa Luo smiled and went inside to get a box of gifts, ”Take this back for your father; I’ve heard he hasn’t been feeling well, give this to the old man to nourish him.”

”Fourth Uncle, why so formal with me? I didn’t bring the steamed buns to get a gift in return, just thought that city kids rarely get to enjoy authentic country meals. But I’m not sure if the kids will like it,” Xiao Xiao’s mom’s face showed a touch of shyness.

”Like it? Of course, we like it, thank you Fourth Aunt,” Luo Ye quickly expressed her stance. She quite liked this Fourth Aunt Lu who had looked after Grandpa in the past and was indeed more considerate than Great Aunt and Second Aunt.

Ever since the last family meeting, the aunts had not visited again. Great Uncle and Second Uncle, however, would drop by every now and then with some food and seasonal fruits and vegetables, probably behind their wives’ backs.

”Glad you like it, then I’ll be heading back. I still have a pot on the stove!” Fourth Aunt Lu took a few steps and then turned back with a smile, ”Oh right, this afternoon at two, Xiao Xiao is meeting her prospective in-laws. Fourth Uncle and Xiao Feng, Little Ye, if you have time, come and help us check it out.”

Grandpa Luo smiled and nodded, ”Sure, we’ll definitely be there!” Luo Ye also nodded eagerly. In the countryside, such an occasion demanded a crowd for celebration, especially with her and her brother’s status, Fourth Aunt Lu probably wanted them to show up and add to the occasion.

Receiving affirmative responses from the grandfather and grandchildren, Fourth Aunt Lu’s steps brightened considerably. Her daughter was her concern, and with someone finally proposing marriage, if it could work out, it would resolve a big worry for her.

”Fourth Grandpa, Little Yezi, Little Fengzi, I’m meeting potential suitors today, will you come help me take a look?” Not long after Fourth Aunt Lu had left, Xiao Xiao came in beaming with delight.

”Sure, we’ll go help you check it out!” Luo Ye smiled and pointed to the little stool, ”Sit down, Xiao Xiao.”

Xiao Xiao sat down and rolled her eyes at Luo Ye discontentedly, ”Little Yezi is bad; I’m older than both you and Xiao Feng, so you should call me ’sister.’ Later when you meet my beau, you have to call him ’brother-in-law,’ got it?”

”Got it!” Luo Ye replied with a smile, knowing that speaking with Xiao Xiao meant staying on her good side to avoid serious consequences.

”Grandpa, have you had lunch?” Along with a crisp voice, a ponytailed, pretty-faced girl walked in, Luo Ping from Second Uncle’s family.

Grandpa Luo answered with a smile, ”Yes, we have. Xiao Xiao’s Mom made some steamed buns and brought some over for us.”

”Luo Ping, you’re here too?” Xiao Xiao happily got up and took Luo Ping by the arm, ”I’m meeting my potential in-laws today, will you come help me check it out? You’re my deskmate, you must go, okay?”

Nu’an made some revisions to this Chapter once again, indeed, I’ve mistakenly referred to Mr. Yu as Mr. Yuan multiple times. Probably groggy from getting up in the morning. Sigh, thanks to ’Qimin’ for the reminder, it’s all Nu’an’s fault.
