Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 83: Chapter 70 Various Thoughts _2

Luo Ye wondered with a puzzled glance at his Aunt who was scowling. Was this woman really foolish or just pretending to be? Did she think that by acting this way, Dad would compromise and arrange a job for her children? Seriously, who did she think she was? Was Dad really that keen on seeing her make an appearance? Better off not going at all!

Feeling irritable, Luo Ye turned around, tugging Luo Feng along to leave. They came, they showed their face; that was enough. Showing up late was meant to send a warning: don’t take yourself too seriously!

Silently making their way halfway, Uncle Luo blustered out: ”Feng’er, if Grandpa and your Dad ask, just say Aunt is sick and her sons and daughters need to stay home to take care of her!”

Luo Ye flatly refused: ”Uncle, we won’t lie!”

”Don’t interfere, girl!”

”Uncle, my sister’s thoughts are my thoughts!” Luo Feng quickly stated his position.

Luo Ye’s lips curled into a faint cold smile: ”Uncle, if you look down on girls so much, then why can’t you even make decisions for Aunt?”

”Nonsense, how can I not make decisions?” Uncle Luo stiffened his neck: ”If she disobeys, watch how I won’t beat her to death!”

Luo Ye just smirked and said no more. There was no point in arguing with an uncle who only had a primary school education. She wasn’t particularly fond of her two uncles and aunt; her willingness to visit them was purely out of respect for Grandpa.

Uncle Luo grimaced, looking pleadingly at Luo Feng: ”Xiao Feng, I’m begging you; you don’t want your dad and Grandpa to be upset, do you?”

”My sister decides, ask her!” Luo Feng’s voice was indifferent; he was upset their uncle looked down on his sister.

Upon hearing this, Uncle Luo immediately fell silent. He was quite feudal; the thought of humbling himself to ask his niece for a favor was utterly out of the question!

...

When Luo Ye and her siblings arrived at Grandpa Luo’s house, Luo Zhenggang, Second Uncle Luo, and Grandpa Luo were chatting in the living room, while Wen Xin and Wang Yan were busy preparing lunch in the kitchen.

After exchanging greetings, Grandpa Luo glanced at his eldest son: ”Where’s your wife?”

”She’s not feeling well, so my daughter and Xiao Ning are taking care of her at home!” Uncle Luo’s explanation made Second Uncle Luo smirk—was that lively woman really feeling unwell?

”She’s strong as a bull, and now she’s unwell? Forget it, let’s not make a big deal if she doesn’t come. We won’t miss one person!” Grandpa Luo turned to Second Uncle Luo: ”Go summon Xiao Ning and daughter; the kids shouldn’t lack manners like her.”

”Dad!” Second Uncle Luo seemed troubled.

”Do I need to go myself?” Grandpa Luo’s voice grew stern: ”Feng’er and Ye’er only come back twice a year. If the kids don’t get close now, they’ll have even less time once they start working and eventually, we won’t even be relatives anymore! Paipei should be on holiday these days. Let her come over frequently to get familiar with Feng’er and Ye’er. We need to act like a family, what are we if we don’t?”

”Yes, Dad!” Reluctantly, Second Uncle Luo stood up and went toward his elder brother’s house, dreading his sister-in-law’s temper.

Luo Zhenggang was well aware of his sisters-in-law’s motives; in earlier years they thought he could be a backer for their children, always eagerly flocking to him when he visited.

During the years when he was demoted, village gossip flourished, and his sisters-in-law changed their attitude. They now resent him for not arranging jobs for their children and probably suspect that he is just an unsuccessful, powerless, lucky guy.

”Big brother, doing well lately?” After the perfunctory conversation started, Luo Ye quickly grabbed a small bowl of strawberries to the kitchen.

”Sister-in-law, you’re really blessed—having a son and a daughter both good-looking and urban kids to boot. They will certainly do well in the future. Compared to you, we country bumpkins really look forward to nothing!”

Luo Ye pursed her lips, testing Mom? She walked in and handed a strawberry to Wen Xin: ”Mom, open your mouth, this is sweet!”

”Is Little Ye back?” Wang Yan smiled and asked: ”And your Aunt?”

Luo Ye laughed, ”Aunt, ah, she’s not feeling well!”

”What’s wrong? What sickness?” Wen Xin looked worriedly at her daughter.

”A heart sickness!”

”You child!” Wen Xin laughed and tapped her daughter lightly: ”Carry the dishes outside, let your Grandpa and the others start drinking.”

Luo Ye eyed a few dishes and pointed: ”Mom, keep some of each of these dishes for me, I don’t want any that’s been touched by alcohol!”

”Sure!” Wen Xin efficiently found small plates to reserve a small meal for her daughter, while Wang Yan’s mouth twitched—wasn’t that a bit too indulgent for a child?

”Sister-in-law, I heard you were back and rushed over immediately, you wretched fellow, you really don’t think about me, do you? We’re all from one village; you invited the elder and second brothers, why not me?” Aunt’s loud voice could be heard from miles away, let alone in the kitchen.

Luo Ye noticed the smirk at the corner of Wang Yan’s mouth and mischievously reported: ”Second Uncle has gone to Uncle’s house, inviting elder brother and sister.”

The smirk on Wang Yan’s face quickly disappeared: ”Sister-in-law really doesn’t understand manners!”

Wen Xin discreetly glared at her daughter, and Luo Ye cheekily stuck out her tongue, picking a large strawberry to stuff in her mom’s mouth, her triumphant little expression both irritating and amusing Wen Xin.

...

After lunch, everyone gathered for a chat, and Qian Xiaotian, aunt’s daughter, sidled up to Luo Ye: ”Ye’er, your clothes are really pretty!”

Luo Ye nodded: ”Do you think so? I quite like them too!”

Qian Xiaotian’s face showed a trace of surprise, then she tugged at her green dress: ”My mom just doesn’t know how to shop. Look at my clothes, they’re so plain.”

”They’re alright!” Luo Ye lounged back in her chair, not even glancing at Qian Xiaotian, her attention was on her dad and the others.

Qian Xiaotian measured up her cousin with a hint of jealousy, always feeling she was prettier than her cousin. This sudden realization took her aback—well, pretty is pretty, but why did her personality change too?

In the past, whenever she spoke up, her cousin would have swapped clothes with her immediately, why didn’t it work this time? (To be continued. If you want to know what happens next, please visit www.. More Chapters available, support the author, support genuine reading!)
