Rebirth: Starting with 10 Billion Us Dollars

113: Chapter 113 Selling at Cost PriceChen Mo helped support Zhao Liying onto the bed and laid her flat, while Li Xing grabbed the nearby quilt and covered her up.

Chen Mo stepped back to the doorway and said:

”I’m heading back first. Keep an eye on things yourself.”

Li Xing turned to look at him, waved her hand, and said:

”Go ahead. I’ll stay to look after her, otherwise no one will be here if she throws up in the middle of the night.”

Chen Mo paused for a moment and asked:

”Are you sure? Staying up all night is quite tiring.”

”I’m sure.”

Li Xing nodded and said:

”I was the one who wanted to help you bring her back, so it’s only right that I look after her.”

Chen Mo didn’t say anything more, just nodded and said:

”Alright, call me if anything happens.”

He then took out his personal business card and handed it to Li Xing; it had his private number and WeChat on it.

”I know, don’t worry.”

Li Xing took the card and waved her hand.

Chen Mo nodded, turned, and walked out of the room, closing the door behind him.

Chen Mo went downstairs, got into the car, and said to Old Xu:

”Back to the manor.”

”Understood, President Chen.”

Old Xu started the car and drove away from the hotel.

Only a few minutes into the drive, Chen Mo’s phone rang. He took it out and saw it was Li Yue calling.

”Hello, Li Yue.”

Li Yue’s voice came from the other end:

”President Chen! Great news! Imatinib Mesylate has passed clinical trials!”

Chen Mo’s eyes lit up as he said:

”Are you sure there are no issues?”

”Absolutely sure! No problems at all!”

Li Yue said:

”All test results are up to standard. All relevant certifications will be processed by tomorrow, and our pharmaceutical company can officially start production of this drug!”

Chen Mo smiled:

”Good, well done! Thank you for your hard work. You must have been exhausted lately.”

”It’s no trouble, President Chen. This is what I should be doing.”

Li Yue said:

”Once the certifications are out tomorrow, I’ll bring them to you immediately.”

”Alright, good!”

Chen Mo said:

”Keep a close eye on the subsequent production as well, and report any issues to me promptly.”

”Understood, President Chen!”

”Okay, that’s all. Hanging up now.”

Chen Mo hung up the phone and leaned back in his seat, closing his eyes to rest.

Early the next morning, just as Chen Mo arrived at his office, Li Yue knocked and walked in with a stack of documents.

”President Chen, the certification documents are all here! Everything is in order; we can start sales at any time!”

After placing the documents on the desk, Li Yue spoke to Chen Mo.

Chen Mo picked up the documents, flipped through them, and said to Li Yue:

”Thank you for your hard work. Go and get some rest. I’ll let the Public Relations Department handle the announcement.”

”No need, President Chen. I got some rest last night.”

Li Yue waved her hand and said:

”I’ll coordinate with the Public Relations Department on pricing and sales channels to make sure there are no mistakes.”

Chen Mo smiled and didn’t press further, thinking he’d give her a long break after this period:

”Fine, but pay attention and don’t overwork yourself. As for the pricing, let’s go with what we discussed before: 180 yuan per box. It will only be sold online; no offline sales points for now. This must be clearly stated to prevent patients from being scammed.”

”Understood, President Chen. I’ll arrange it!”

Li Yue nodded and then turned to coordinate with the Public Relations Department.

At exactly ten o’clock in the morning, the official Weibo of Tianxing Technology, the official account of Tianxing Pharmaceuticals, and official accounts on major platforms simultaneously released an announcement:

”Tianxing Pharmaceuticals’s Imatinib Mesylate has been officially approved. Online sales begin today, priced at 180 yuan per box. Available through online channels only; no offline sales for the time being. We guarantee sufficient supply; please purchase as needed.”

As soon as the announcement was released, the internet, which had been relatively quiet for the past few days, instantly boiled over.

”Holy crap! Am I seeing this right? Imatinib Mesylate? Isn’t that the Leukemia drug? Tianxing produced it and brought it to market this quickly?”

”180 yuan a box? No way! The imported ones used to cost over twenty thousand a box. Is Tianxing serious about this price?”

”Help! My grandfather has Leukemia and has been taking imported medicine. Our family is almost bankrupt. Is Tianxing’s drug really only 180? It’s not a fake, is it?”

”Don’t just guess blindly, person above. What is Tianxing’s strength? They’ve broken Western monopolies in phones, chips, and carbon fiber. How bad could they be at medicine? Besides, the announcement is out and they have all the certifications. It’s definitely real!”

”Anyone in the industry here? Speak up. Can they make money selling this drug at 180 yuan a box? I feel like that won’t even cover the costs.”

”Here I am! Someone from the pharmaceutical industry passing through! The production cost of Imatinib Mesylate is roughly 150 to 180 yuan per box. Tianxing’s pricing is basically at cost!”

”Wtf? Cost price? What about the R&D costs? Developing this drug must have cost hundreds of millions. Is Tianxing not trying to make money? Is this pure charity?”

”Who understands this! Those other pharmaceutical companies factor in all R&D and marketing costs and sell it for several times the price. Tianxing is great; they just start selling at cost price without even counting R&D?”

”President Chen’s vision is too grand! I thought Tianxing entered the medical field to make money, but it turns out it was so ordinary people could afford medicine!”

”I’m crying! My relative took imported medicine for years; they lost their house and car and are buried in debt. Now that Tianxing’s drug is out, it’s literally saved my relative’s whole family!”

”Assuming R&D cost 500 million, and they sell 1 million boxes a year, they’d need to add at least 500 yuan per box just to recover R&D costs. Tianxing’s 180 yuan is a pure loss!”

”The person above is right! Plus, production requires labor, facilities, and transportation costs. At 180 yuan a box, never mind making money, it’s lucky if they don’t lose too much!”

”Compared to other pharmaceutical companies, the difference is like heaven and earth! A certain company’s generic version of the same drug sells for 6,000 a box and they call it a ’people-friendly price.’ Where’s their shame?”

”President Chen is going to disrupt the entire pharmaceutical industry! If other companies dare to sell at high prices in the future, probably no one will buy from them!”

”Is it possible that Tianxing wants to use low prices to open up the market and then raise prices later?”

”Impossible! When President Chen made phones, his pricing was always honest, and he promised no price gouging. Besides, if he really wanted to raise prices, why wait? He could have just set it at a few hundred, and people would still buy it!”

”Exactly! They can self-develop chips and Lithography machines; would they be short on this little bit of money? They probably just want to do something practical so ordinary people can afford life-saving medicine!”

”I’m a doctor. Speaking responsibly, Imatinib Mesylate is a life-saving drug for Leukemia patients. Many people have to give up treatment because they can’t afford it. This move by Tianxing is truly an act of virtue!”

”Did anyone notice the announcement says it’s only sold online and there are no offline sales points? Why is that? Isn’t buying offline more convenient?”

”Probably to avoid offline price hikes! Before, many affordable medicines were marked up to high prices once they reached offline pharmacies. By going online, Tianxing deals directly with consumers and eliminates price hikes!”

”That makes sense! And with online sales, they can control the supply and prevent people from hoarding to drive up prices. President Chen has thought of everything!”

”Support President Chen!”
